Always by your side

Book:Revenge On My Ex Husband Published:2024-11-19

Nicholas returned home feeling really conflicted. He had originally planned to tell Catherine that he was about to leave Washington DC for New York to join the Cartwright group as earlier planned.
He wanted to inform her in person and that was the reason he asked her to meet with him. He knew his decision would mean a significant change for the both of them.
For the past few days , he had been consumed with dealing with his company’s acquisition and other preparations, leaving him almost no time for meaningful communication with Catherine.
He didn’t expect that for just a short period of time that he didn’t really spend with Catherine.. that they weren’t able to talk like bwfore, things would get really serious as it is.
He recalled seeing how haggard and exhausted her eyes were when he he stood at her door and that made his heart sink. He realized that Catherine had been hiding dangerous actions from him.
There was no way he could leave for New York now that he had seen that she was in such a state. Even though he was really mad and disappointed in her, he couldn’t do that to her.
She had used herself as bait to expose Amara’s conspiracy. He knew she didn’t tell him every details of all the things that was going on in her life but he just didn’t expect her to go too far.
It made him wonder what other serious and dangerous things she had hidden from him. He thought she would always run to him for help or guidance before she made a decision.
“I guess this is just the extent of our relationship.” He thought to himself sadly.
Even though he was mad and disappointed, he couldn’t get out the thought of how she looked when he went to visit her and that only made him angrier and more disappointed. He picked up his phone and dialed Fiona’s number.
He needed to know the truth, to understand why Fiona was also hiding details about Catherine from him. Fiona answered his call and drove to his mansion immediately at his order.
Within minutes, she was standing in front of him with her head bowed, looking somewhat nervous.
“Why did you keep such a secret from me?” He demanded.
Fiona was fidgeting at her spot as Nicholas questioned her; “I couldn’t reject Ms. Catherine sir. You told me to listen to her every demands.” She answered respectfully.
Nicholas took in a deep sigh and face palmed himself. When he gave her that instruction, he never expected Catherine would do something as risky as this.
“Well, here’s another instruction.. report everything that’s going on in that house to me as long as it concerns Catherine. No matter how little the detail is, I want to know.” He ordered and she nodded in understanding.
“You’re dismissed.” He muttered, signaling with his hands for her to leave. Fiona was about leaving when she recalled the other reason she came to meet him.
“I have something for you sir.” She said.
“What is it?” Nichlas asked as he turned his attention back to her.
“This.” She muttered as she placed a bottle of pills on the table.
Nicholas’ eyes widened as he stared at the bottle; “Is this…”
“The drugs Amara has been spiking Ms. Catherine’s milk with. I was able to steal one when she wasn’t around.” She answered, confirming Nicholas’ suspicions.
“One??”
“Yes, she had plenty of them and most of them are already empty. I fear she’s giving Ms. Catherine heavy dosages.” Fiona answered.
Nicholas felt his tightened in his chest when he heard that. Is that the reason Catherine looked that way?? After reporting that to him, Fiona went back to the Dyson’s mansion to stay with Catherine.
Nicholas took the bottle and had Liam take it for testing. The medication’s impact on Catherine’s health weighed heavily on him. He recalled her pale face and tired eyes, feeling a deep sense of dread.
The drugs Amara was feeding Hector had really damaged him so that made Nicholas fear since the dosage Catherine was fed was heavier than Hector’s and her health was deteriorating really fast.
He imagined the worst case scenarios of how the drugs could harm Catherine. What if it makes her disabled,? Or harms her internall? Or leaves her bedridden for life?
What if she lands in a coma? Or worse, ends up dying? Those thoughts crossed through his mind and that made him really scared. He blamed himself for not noticing her plans sooner.
For not protecting her. Just a few days and something like this had already happened. Fortunately, when the result to the drug test was out, it showed that even though the drug was harmful, it wasn’t fatal.
That means that it wouldn’t leave any lasting effect on Catherine as long as she gets treated immediately. Nicholas breathed a sigh if relief, though his anger remained unresolved.
“Why are you still arguing with her even though you’re concerned about her well being??” Nicholas heard Liam’s voice, breaking his train of thoughts.
Nicholas turned to face Liam, his face showing a hint of helplessness. “Catherine’s actions were too dangerous. She should have confided in me first.” He answered.
“What if she didn’t want to worry you, given how busy you have been.” Liam suggested with a shrug.
Nicholas fell silent, as he thought more about what Liam had just said. When he recalled how Catherine looked when she tried to explain her actions to him, he couldn’t help but feel guilty.
He had been neglected her for the past few days under the guise of joining the Cartwright group. What if she didn’t what to pressurize him with her problems?
He realized that he needed to have a really serious talk with Catherine to resolve their misunderstandings. He needed her to realize that no matter what happens or how far apart that they are, he would always be by her side.
Every challenges that comes their way, they would always face it together, rather than separately.
