He turned to look at me with a deep and affectionate gaze. Our breathing gradually quickened. I tiptoed and was about to kiss him but I was interrupted by his ringing phone.
He pulled out his phone from his pocket and answered it. I noticed how his expression darkened immediately after he finished the call. The conversation he had with whoever it was at the other end of the line seemed to have brought some unwelcome news.
“There’s an urgent matter in the company that needs my attention.” He announced as he cleaned his wet hands with a rag.
“Okay.” I answered, quickly understanding the seriousness of the situation and I urged him to go handle it without delay. He hurriedly left, leaving me in the huge mansion.
Having nothing to do and feeling really bored, I decided to head back home. I changed back into my office wear of yesterday and picked up my suitcase. In the living room, I saw Fiona waiting for me.
It seemed she understood I would also want to leave now that Nicholas had left. We walked out of the huge building and towards where my car was parked yesterday.
I got in and she entered the driver’s seat before driving off.
The Dyson’s mansion
After Fiona had parked the car in the driveway, I got down and entered into the building. The first person I saw in the living room was Amara. She was sitted on a sofa with a complex expression on, while Andrew was also in the living room.
I wasn’t in the mood for any of their problems today so I decided to head straight to my room. My plans were ruined when Andrew stopped me.
“Why didn’t you come home last night?” He asked as he suddenly stood in front of me, blocking me from moving.
“I’m not in the mood for this Andrew. We’ll talk later.” I muttered tiredly but he wouldn’t listen.
“First tell me where you spent the night.” He demanded. I felt a surge of disdain at his questioning.
I couldn’t help myself when; “It’s none of your business!!” I uttered those words coldly.
He was taken aback by my reply and attitude but was quick to compose himself.
“It’s my business as I am your fuckung husband!!” He screamed at the top of his voice. His voice was so loud that it made my ears sting.
“My husband??” I asked with a small chuckle.
“Y… yes.. your husband.” He stuttered out, not expecting that type of reaction from me.
I stared at him in disdain, being greatly irritated by his persistent claim to that role even though he doesn’t act like it. I was getting really tired of him and his idiotic ways.
“I can’t take this anymore. I need to end this now.” I said to myself.
“Well, from now on, you’re not my husband anymore.” I said to him. His expression changed immediately. He was shocked by my response.
He took a deep breath, seeming to struggle to calm himself. He pulled out an exquisite looking box from his pockets and handed it over to me.
I stared at him in confusion before opening it. Inside, I saw a fancy looking diamond necklace with earrings to match it.
“Are you still angry with me?” He asked as he stared at me hopefully.
I moved my gaze and stared at Amara who had been quiet all through my conversation with Andrew. I was surprised as to why she had been quiet since she always tries to defend him whenever we are having a fight but now, I know the reason.
I noticed a flicker of jealousy amd anger in her eyes, which was quickly suppressed with a fake smile when she noticed me staring at her. She must be really angry that Andrew spent the money she stole from my father to get me an expensive gift.
I felt a sense of unexplained satisfaction as I accepted the jewelries. I put on a smug smile that was directed to Amara.
“I’ll accept the the gift..” I noticed how Andrew breathed out a sigh of relief at my words.
“… but my words are final. We are not getting back together.” He was stunned, not expecting for me to end our relationship this abruptly.
“Why?? Why would you suddenly end our relationship??” He asked, suddenly becoming aggressive.
“Relationship?? We’ve never had a relationship before.” I answered.
“So all time I’ve wasted on you, all the years we’ve spent together, you want to throw it away?” He asked making me scoff out angrily.
“If I remember clearly, all the time and resources that were wasted were mine!!”
“What??”
“Besides, you threw our marriage away first.” I added.
“Are you still talking about Matilda? How many times do I have to tell you that she drugged m….” He wasn’t able to complete his words when I pulled out a stack of photos from my bag an threw them at his face.
The photos scattered on the floor, each showing Andrew’s intimate moments with different women during the time Amara was in the hospital. Some days ago, after my talk with dad, I had someone secretly tail Andrew to find out what he was up to.
Amara wasn’t around but he was being sneaky. What I didn’t expect to find out was him sleeping with other women. I thought he loved Amara. Andrew’s face went pale the moment he saw the photots.
He went on his knees immediately and clasped his hands together; “I’m sorry Catherine. Please don’t end our marriage. I’ll try to be better.” He pleaded but I wasn’t listening.
“This necklace is a compensation for the years I’ve wasted on you. I don’t want to see you ever again.” I said to him, but he kept on pleading.
“Fiona!!” I called out and Fiona entered the living room immediately.
“Throw this animal and all of his belongings out of this house!!” I ordered and with a neutral expression on, she grabbed Andrew’s arm and dragged him out of the mansion.
His pleas grew distant and I felt and unprecedented sense of relief. I noticed Amara’s expression was quite revealing. She clearly wasn’t expecting Andrew’s betrayal.
Now that’s out of the way, I was about to head into my room like earlier planned and take a nap when Amara’s voice stopped me.
“You can’t just end your long term marriage all because of something like this.” I stood rooted to my spot in shock. Why was she still defending him if he cheated on her too? What’s really going on between them?
“What did you say?” I asked as I turned to face her like I didn’t hear her the first time.
“You have to reconcile with him. Who knows.. it might be just like that time with Matilda? What if he’s being fram..”
“Don’t bother to defend him.” I said, interrupting her.
“There’s nothing you say that’ll make me go back to him. You had better mind your business or you might be next.” I warned as I eyed her in anger.
“How dare you speak to your step mother that way??” I heard dad’s voice and turned in shock to see him staring at me with a disapproving look on his face. How long has he been standing there and how much has he listened??
