“What are you doing here??” I asked irritably.
Instead of replying to my question, he smiled cheekily and stared around my office in awe. “Nice office you’ve got here.” He complimented but I wasn’t in the mood for any games at the moment.
I entered the office and shut the door behind me so no one can enter.” What are you doing here???” I asked again but with more seriousness.
“Well, I came here to ask for your forgiveness.” He muttered, the smile still wasn’t leaving his face, making it seem like he wasn’t being sincere.
My eyebrows arched slightly, my voice tinged with sarcasm; “Why would someone as hardworking and versatile like you need my forgiveness?” I asked.
“What… no…”
“You’re always so combative and confident so you don’t need to apologize for anything you do, do you?” I asked, my tone was mocking and clearly dissatisfied with his attitude.
“Are you mad at me?” He asked, his voice laced with uncertainty.
“I don’t know. Why should I be?” I asked back. Nicholas’ smile frozed for a moment when be realized that I was genuinely angry.
“I’m so sorry if what I did made you mad. I had a good reason for my actions.”
“Tell me then. What was the reason that you had to question my decision in front of others?” I asked, as I tried to calm myself. He stared at me silently, as if he was pondering if he should tell me or not.
“I need to know what that reason is if you want me to forgive you.” I said when he was taking too much time to answer.
He sighed a little in defeat before; “My company is about to be acquired by the Cartwright group, a very powerful entity. I can’t afford to be seen so close to you publicly as what I’m doing is very dangerous. I’m worried that you would be implicated, that is why I acted that way.” He explained.
I stared at him silently as all his words were too much to take in at once. It took me a while before I finally understood what he had just told me. Instead of his reason to appease me, it only made me angrier.
“Really? That’s the reason?” I asked and he nodded slowly, noticing I still wasn’t happy at all.
“So that’s what you view me as?” My sarcasm grew sharper.
“What do you mean?” He asked back in confusion.
“You really see me as a weak vine that needs support?” I scoffed, clearly displeased with his view about me.
He stood up immediately and walked towards me. “No way. I have never seen you as someone weak.” He denied, his voice tinged with urgency.
“Then why are you trying to protect me? You don’t think I can do it myself?” I asked again, my hands akimbo.
“I know you aren’t weak but no matter how strong you are, in my eyes you’re still a princess that needs protection, and I hope this princess would give me a chance to apologize.” He explained, his voice filled with tenderness and sincerity.
I couldn’t help it when a light smile curved on my lips but I wasn’t very quick to repress it. I can’t give in just yet. I don’t want him to feel triumphant.
“Since you’re being sincere, I’ll let it go… but just this time.” I said and that made him smile.
“So we are good now?” He asked as he walked closer to me.”
“Not yet, I still need you to explain something to me.” I answered as I placed my hands on his chest, thereby stopping him from coming closer to me.
With a small sigh; “What would you like to know?” He asked.
“What are you planning that made you willing to hand over the company that you built from scratch to this ‘powerful entity’?” I asked in confusion.
I was still trying to wrap my head around it. I mean, Nicholas wouldn’t do something without a good reason and something as risky as this deserves a very good reason for it.
“Why don’t you come to my house in the evening, I’ll explain everything better then.” He said.
I felt my face heat up when he said that but I was quick to look the other way so he wouldn’t notice it. I can’t believe he was really inviting me to his house. When I finally calmed down, I turned back to face him.
“I can’t believe you’re having impure thoughts in such a serious moment.” I muttered as I slapped his chest lightly.
He looked confused at first but smiled when he finally understood what I was saying. “You’re the one with the dirty mind. All I did was invite you to my house.” He teased back.
“What do you expect a man and woman enclosed together in a house and at such time to do?” I asked.
“I don’t know… maybe talk, and do some other things.” He muttered as he suddenly pulled me closer to him. I suddenly forgot to breath when he did that.
I felt my body shake by that one action of his. “O.. other things like what?” I stammered.
“Other things like this.” He whispered before placing his lips perfectly on mine.
He sucked on them ferociously like this was the first time he was doing it. He wrapped his hands possessively around my waist and pulled me impossibly closer to him till there was hardly any space left in between us.
After some time, he pulled away so we would catch our breath. His eyes lingered on mine for a while, as he watched me take in deep breaths with a wide smile dancing on his lips.
He placed his hands on my bare thighs and moved them up, underneath my skirt. A low moan escaped my lips as I felt his warm fingers up my butt. He held my thighs and lifted me up, placing me on the desk.
He parted my legs and stood in between them before kissing me again. I wrapped my legs tightly around his torso as our lips moved perfectly against each other.
He placed his hands on my blouse and was about unbuttoning it when we heard a knock on the door. Being startled, we pulled away from each other immediately.
I quickly arranged my clothes and helped Nicholas wipe off the smeared lipstick on his lips. After seeing that we were tidied up, I was about to open the door when Nicholas stopped me.
He proposed that we stage an argument so our time together wouldn’t raise suspicions. To make it convincing, I slapped him really hard on the cheek and screamed at him to leave my office.
He opened the door and stormed out with anger on his face. My secretary who had been the one knocking walked in. I could see the surprise and confusion on her face.
Within a few minutes, gossips of my altercation with Nicholas had reached every part of the building, even my father heard about it. He came to me and asked in concern about what had happened.
I simply replied that Nicholas had tried to harrass me while thinking about our passionate time together in my office. I can’t believe he wanted to do the deed here and what’s more surprising was that I almost let him. What’s going on with me?
