STARLETTE
I didn’t even know when I held him. I didn’t want him to go. Tingles jolted through my body in his presence-a satisfactory feeling I wasn’t quite ready to let go of.
“Starlette.” He mumbled. “I have to go.”
Of, course. I was the only one affected by the mate bond. He didn’t feel the same way. My cheeks burned in embarrassment at that realization. Starlette. What were you thinking? I mentally scolded myself.
I cleared my throat. “Iris surfaced for a second. She wanted you to stay. Not me.”
He raised a brow. “Iris?”
“Yes, that’s my wolf’s name.”
“Oh..” He nodded. “My wolf’s name is Nile. And…”
He suddenly joined me in bed, laying next to me. “Nile also wants to stay with his mate. So I guess I’ll stay. For their sake.”
I gulped down a huge chunk of saliva and nodded. “For their sake.”
“We should allow them to run in the woods sometime.” He suggested.
“You would trust us to run in the woods?” I asked, surprised.
“You can’t get away from me. I am so much faster and stronger.” He boasted.
I raised a brow. “You think? I could be faster than you think. What if I was some super wolf?”
He chuckled. “You aren’t. I have seen Iris before, remember? During your futile attempt to run,
I laughed at my stupidity. How did I ever expect to get away that day? My emotions were high, and I acted on them.
“I was so stupid.” I breathed.
“No, you aren’t.” He stroked my hair with his finger. “I think you are a smart, brave woman. If not for you, we would have still been in the dark about the Invisibles.”
“You would have found out one way or the other.” I countered.
“But you made it easier for us. And…” He drew a long breath. “Thank you for that.”
My eyes narrowed. Who was the creature before me? He was definitely not the Alpha King Maximus I knew. A person couldn’t just change overnight.
I opened my mouth to talk, but closed it again. I didn’t know what to say. You’re welcome? Or, who the fuck are you? Or, what changed?
Silence ensued, and as we continued staring into each other’s eyes, my body became hot with desire. All the hate I harboured for him suddenly melted, and at that moment, all I wanted to do was kiss him.
As if reading my mind, he closed in and sought my lips. I didn’t object as he wrapped his lips around mine and licked it like candy. An intense feeling I couldn’t fathom erupted through my body, leaving me breathless.
“Nile wanted that.” He breathed as we pulled away from the kiss.
“Iris too.” I breathed and gulped. Oh, I wanted more.
He cupped his palm around my nape and pulled me in, kissing me aggressively. With no mercy. Just like I wanted. I kissed him back with an equal amount of need. Soon enough, our clothes were already ripped out of our bodies and littered all over the floor. His strokes were feral as he pumped into me. I had never felt anything like that before. The more he pushed inside me, the better it got, and I never wanted that feeling to end.
From the moment he kissed me to when he poured his seeds inside me, it was a blur. That was the last thing I had expected to happen tonight. But it did anyway, and I loved it.
***
Later that night, we went into the woods and allowed our wolves to run, as he had suggested. Iris was overly excited to finally meet and play with Nile. All the pent-up frustration was finally let out, and we felt as free as a bird.
While Iris was in charge and playing with Nile, I couldn’t stop thinking of how badly Maximus had treated us before today. How much he hurt us. The memories were driving me crazy, and a ton of rage settled within me.
I couldn’t just forgive him because he had suddenly changed. A night of pleasure couldn’t erase the hurt. The memories of what he did still lingered in my head, and the most dominant one was how he made me watch him as he made out with Lauren, knowing how much it would hurt me. That was the highest form of cruelty. I could never forgive him for that!
I was lost in thought, and I didn’t know how much time had passed before Iris reached out to me.
“You can take over now, Star.” She said.
“You’re done?”
“Yes.” Her voice was filled with excitement.
I was glad that she got to be happy with Nile.
After we both transformed, Maximus immediately noticed the foul look I had on.
“What’s wrong?” He asked, concerned.
“Nothing.” I simply replied.
He drew his brows together but didn’t say a word as we slipped inside the clothes we had kept aside. He kept glancing at me as we walked back to the pack house.
“Starlette. Did I do something wrong?” He asked again as we drew closer to the pack house.
Of course, he did everything wrong! But I was too mad at him to even speak to him.
“Starlette. Please speak to me.” He persisted, his voice filled with worries.
I took a long breath and finally turned to look at him. “What are you doing?” I shot the question at him.
Confusion masked his face. “What am I doing?”
“Have you suddenly forgotten everything you did to me since I stepped into this pack?”
“Starle-”
I cut him in. “If you have forgotten, I would remind you. You choked me the moment you saw me and threatened to reject me once I gave you your pups. I’m sure you know how much that broke me. And ever since then, you’ve humiliated me before Lauren at every opportunity you got. And now you’re suddenly trying to act as if none of that happened.”
Tears began to stream down my face as everything hurt all over again. “I would never forgive you for all that.” I sobbed.
Without hesitation, I sprinted away from him and ran into the packhouse, not knowing where I was headed. But it was definitely not our room.
