Chapter 64
Author’s POV
She knelt down before the boss, her head bent and her hands folded behind her. Even her beautiful slingback stilettos had been taken off her feet as a sign of reverence for her master.
“Did you succeed?” Boss asked, her legs crossed while she took a sip from her wine glass.
Her questions were known to be concise yet accompanied with so much authority that made anyone around her tremble.
“Yes, boss. They are at loggerheads as we speak now,” Margaret replied without batting her lashes.
According to the boss’s rules, she wasn’t permitted to lift her head or even glance at her face while reporting to her.
For two years that she had worked for her, she couldn’t tell how she looked like because of the partition that had been intentionally placed in the room to keep her from seeing her, neither did she know her name.
“And how do you feel about it. Are you happy about it?”
Margaret flinched and almost raised her head. She had never expected to be asked a personal question.
Of course she was damn happy about it. She didn’t care that her boss was deeply in love with Dmitri and had sent her on a mission to monitor him.
All that mattered was that she stood a chance to being close to him once again.
However, she couldn’t tell her Boss that she had fallen in love with the man that she was assigned to watch over or she wouldn’t make it out of the meeting room alive.
“My feelings aren’t valid in this matter, Boss. I’m just an agent,” She replied carefully.
Boss nodded slowly in satisfaction and wiped the smudge that the nail polish had created on her fingers. “I guess we are done here. Just ensure that there’s no remnant feelings between them because when I’m done with Ariel, she’d regret ever meeting Dmitri,”
Margaret forced her body to remain still at Boss’s venomous tone. Though her father had a lot of influence and connections, she wasn’t sure he could protect her from the fury of this woman if it ever turned against her.
“You can leave,” She permitted her and immediately a blindfold was placed on her eyes.
That was the ritual-she wasn’t allowed to know the location of their meeting point for confidentiality sake, so she was guided into a car which drove to the place she parked her car.
A few minutes later, the car came to a complete halt and the blindfold was taken off her eyes. She quickly hopped out of the car as the men who escorted her scared her to the bone.
She’d barely gotten to her car when her phone rang. She placed her phone on her ear and unlocked the door.
“Who is it?”
“It’s Ariel. I want us to meet this evening at a bar. I’ll text you the address,”
Margaret smirked upon hearing Ariel’s troubled voice since it was what she wanted. “I thought you didn’t want to have anything to do with me,” She teased. “It’s alright, I’ll be there. After all, I’m not one to withhold help when a dear friend needs it,” She chuckled lousily.
The line went dead immediately and then the car zoomed off.

ARIEL
The phone slipped off my hands and fell on the bed as soon as I got off the call with Margaret. Her taunts re-echoed painfully in my head, but right now I had no choice.
My mind was jumbled with several thoughts roaming through it. I’d woken up this morning after the brutal sex Dmitri and I had last night to find myself alone, and that spurred me to call her.
If I did nothing, my problems will escalate and my sanity was already being threatened.
Pumped and ready to do whatever it would take to sort out this issue, I marched out of the house without Fedor’s knowledge. Even though Dmitri and I weren’t on talking terms, it wouldn’t stop him from reporting to his boss.
Dmitri was quite unstable right now and I didn’t want him to be aware of my plans.
I got to the bar and ordered for a bottle of whiskey. The waiter brought it shortly and I turned the drink into a glass cup, taking in the content in one gulp.
The strong alcoholic taste made my chest churn and my brain became hazy for a moment as I shook my head vigorously. I didn’t mind that I could get drunk at this point because I wasn’t ready to face Margaret soberly.
“I didn’t know you were an alcoholic,” Her distasteful voice filtered through my drunken daze while I glanced at her.
“Oh… You are here,” I slurred, feeling the effect of the strong alcohol on me.
She settled on a chair opposite mine and I reached for my phone on the table, subtly turning on the voice recording.
“You asked me to come, didn’t you?” She collected the bottle and turned the drink into my glass.
“True because I wanted to know why you set me up and sowed the seed of discord between Dmitri and I. I wanted to understand why you’re selling yourself cheap when there are other men dying to have you,”
She played with the shot glass and shrugged. “Well, Dmitri isn’t other men and I’m entitled to him because we knew each other before he decided to marry you.” She fired at me, her playful expression turning sinister. “How is your love life? Does he still look at you the way he used to before he discovered that you are a slut?”
“I’m not a slut,” I fired back with so much fury that she shrank back.
I wanted to tell her that Dmitri still wanted me, that he still fucked me so hard last night that all I dreamt about while I slept was the brutal manner in which he’d handled me, but since the recorder was still on, I had to be careful of my language.
“Dmitri still wants me. He said it himself so no matter what you do, he’ll never forget about me,”
“I guess drugging you and framing you with a sex video wasn’t enough. I’ll make sure that the both of you never end up together. He’s mine and mine alone,” She screamed at the top of her voice and stalked off without allowing me to finish.
A smirk crawled to my lips while I saved this recording. Finally, I’d gotten an evidence that would vindicate me, but if he didn’t believe me after this then I’d accept that we were never meant to be together.
Feeling a bit relieved and emboldened, I paid for the drink and headed to the bus stop.
I considered calling Fedor to come pick me up that my job was done, but I didn’t want the series of interrogation that would accompany it so I decided against it.
The sun shone fiercely, almost causing me to regret why I wore a long-sleeve woollen blouse instead of a casual tank top, but I didn’t have to wait too long when a cab drove by and stopped.
I took a step forward so that I could get into the cab when two men came out and dragged me in.
One of them gagged my mouth tightly to stop me from yelling while the other hurriedly placed a balaclava over my face and instantly, the car became black.
