OLIVIA
I wasn’t sure if passing the night at Adrian’s house was the best decision after what happened between us the last time I visited.
It’s been nearly a week since we had a one-night stand and I still haven’t forgotten about it. Scenes about that horrible day are still stuck in my head, no matter how hard I try to ignore it.
Now I’m making the same mistake again.
Cyril’s memory loss brought me closer to Adrian. It made me understand how important he was to my existence. If I wasn’t married to Cyril, I would definitely be scrubbing my knees on the ground begging for Adrian to marry me.
He’s got everything I needed In a man; He’s rich, successful, smart and above all, caring. In the last few hours, he’s proven to be a better man than Cyril. He stood by me as his whole life depended on it. Yet, we aren’t even dating. He would do great when I eventually become his lover. However, with Cyril in the picture, it may seem impossible to achieve.
“Can you please give me a second with Olivia outside? I got something critical to discuss with her outside,” Kate sought permission from Adrian the moment we dropped her off.
“You want a moment with me?” I was puzzled.
“Yes, please.
Don’t say no.
It’s critical that you do this with me,” Kate pleaded. She sounded so urgent.
I glance at the time on my phone. “It’s past 2 AM already. Can’t it wait for tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow is late.
We can’t predict what’s going to happen in the next few hours,” Kate said.
“I think you should listen to her. She won’t be doing this if it’s not relevant,” Adrian weighed in and took sides with Kate. Coming from someone that should be rushing to go home after a horrible day.
“Are you sure you really want to do this? You are the reason I am acting this way,” I informed Adrian.
“I appreciate you for looking out for me, but I’ll be fine. You’ve got nothing to worry about. Just go with Kate and hear what she has to say. She’s not going to bite you, would she?” Adrian teased, forcing me to laugh in the process.
“This had better be good, else you’re going to regret it. Before you get your hopes so high, just know that Adrian is the only reason I’m doing this,” I issued the warning to Kate and stepped outside. Kate followed me immediately.
“Here we are now.
What’s this about?
Start talking presently,”
I charged Kate to go straight to the point.
Narrowing the gazes around, Kate pulled me by the arm to an isolated corner. It was so fierce that my arm nearly got pulled away from my body.
“What in heaven’s name are you doing? Get your filthy hands off me this minute,” I pushed Kate aside to the point where she almost fell.
“I wouldn’t want Adrian to hear what I wanna talk to you about,” Kate explained and justified her reason for pulling my arm that way.
“Wait, what?
Adrian is the reason you pulled me out? Holy moly! I should have known that,” I facepalm.
As I was about leaving, Kate held me back. “Please don’t go. You need to hear what I have got to say. It’s important,”
“Then get over it and stop beating around the bush like a dumbass,” I yelled at Kate without considering her neighbors who were fast asleep.
“Do you think passing the night at Adrian’s house is the best option? After what happened the last time you visited, I’m not sure you want to do it again,” Kate advised. It’s as though she could read my mind because I already thought about the same thing before.
To avoid making her look special, I frowned. “And who gave you the right to advise me? Do you even know what you’re talking about?”
“Of course I do.
If speaking the truth would make you hate me, I don’t care. I’m just looking out for you and I’ll continue to do that even though you think I’m wrong,” Kate said with confidence.
I may act tough outside but inside of me, I knew Kate was speaking the truth.
“Don’t worry, nothing is going to happen this time,” I assured Kate.
I just didn’t want her to feel special for providing the best advice.
“That was the exact thing you said the last time. Guess what happened afterward?” Kate reminded me. She seems to have the response to all of my questions.
Judging from her disposition, I could see that she came prepared for me. It’s now clear to me why Kate was silent In the car the whole time we drove.
“We had sex because I was drunk. This time, I am never going to get drunk and that’s it,” I lied.
“You know what?
Let’s forget that this conversation ever happened between us.” I angrily walked away. I couldn’t stand the pressure from Kate. She was digging deeper beyond my imagination. It’s just a matter before I fall for her tricks with too much information that doesn’t even exist.
“I’m so sorry for wasting your time.
Of course you know how petty Kate could get most times,” I feigned a smile to pretend that nothing happened out there.
“It’s fine.
You don’t have to apologize.
I completely understood what happened.” Adrian picked no offense. He was so unreal. His attitude as a perfect gentleman was becoming boring to me.
Oftentimes, I want him to act tough.
I was desperately waiting to witness just the dark side and get used to it.
“Can we go now?”
He asked me.
“Sure!
We can,” I consented quickly.
I have no idea when the response emerged from my lips.
Until we arrived at our final destination, I couldn’t stop thinking about what Kate warned me about. The last time I boasted that I wasn’t going to have sex with Adrian, my body betrayed me. Now I am hoping it won’t do the same thing this time.
