The next day, Callie was the first to open the studio door and saw Regan, who had arrived early. She was sitting in the sunlight, her figure graceful. Hearing the sound, she looked up, “Oh, Miss Marsh, you’re here early too.”
Callie didn’t smile. She walked closer and carefully examined Regan’s face. Regan had deliberately applied thick foundation to cover her wounds. She wore long sleeves and pants, covering herself completely.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Regan smiled, but the next second, her wrist was grabbed. Callie suddenly lifted her sleeve, revealing her slender, pale arm covered with bruises and scars.
Regan’s smile became awkward, “What are you doing?”
“How many of these did you inflict on yourself, and how many did he cause?” Callie asked angrily.
Regan hid the sadness in her eyes and turned away, “It’s a very common thing in a wealthy family. I got what I shouldn’t have, so I must bear the price.”
Callie didn’t understand and raised her voice, “He proposed to you, Regan. Don’t belittle yourself.”
“I begged him,” Regan interrupted her. Callie was stunned.
“At that time, my family was in trouble, and I had no money. Jaquan and Nelson helped me out, but I thought if I could gather some more, My family business could sustain for a while. So I called Marilyn to borrow money, but she refused.”
“We’ve been friends for years. When she was abroad, I always helped her with information. I thought she would help me no matter what, but at that critical moment, she didn’t even consider me as much as you did.”
Callie was astonished.
In her impression, Marilyn was not a stingy heiress.
Regan took a deep breath as if she guessed what Callie was thinking, “She’s very selfish. She only associates with people who benefit her. When she saw I was no longer useful, she wanted to discard me. I was a pawn.”
“I had no choice. Desperate, I met Isaac. He had pursued me before, so I had to bow to him.”
Regan smiled, “I could feel that he genuinely liked me but also truly looked down on me. After we got married, he subtly and overtly prevented me from working. If I talked to men too much, he would give me cold shoulders and ignore me completely, which gradually escalated into domestic violence.”
Just hearing this was horrifying. Callie frowned. She could guess that with Regan’s proud and stubborn character, she wouldn’t back down easily, so the problems between them would only escalate.
“Aren’t you living with the Ellison family? Ahmad and Marilyn are there; don’t they intervene?”
“Ahmad turns a blind eye to his son’s actions. Marilyn and I have long been openly at odds; she won’t help me. Their whole family is dissatisfied with this marriage.”
“What about the servants?”
“Isaac has a secret room in the Ellison family house where he usually takes me to beat me. Even if the servants know, it doesn’t help.”
Callie felt suffocated, “Can you leave him?”
She now had suicidal thoughts; this marriage couldn’t continue.
Regan gave a grateful look, “Not in the short term. Don’t worry; he has other women outside and doesn’t come home often. I’ll just be more cautious.”
Callie still felt uneasy. She paced around the office but still felt something was wrong. She hesitated for a moment and sent a message to Tobias: Tobias, do you know any reliable psychologist at the hospital?
