Rachel shot him a scornful look as she tossed the clothes at him, ignoring his compliment. She glanced at the big screen and sneered, “So, are you lost in Everleigh’s song again? Are you still missing that bitch, Brady? Will you ever move on?”
The marriage between the Lawson and Evans families was purely a business deal. Rachel knew even before marrying Brady that he had a woman he really loved and who still held a special place in his heart.
Rachel felt a deep sadness. Even though Everleigh had passed away, she couldn’t stand the thought that her husband still cared for another woman.
Brady worried that Rachel would notice the big screen and figure things out, so he cleverly guided her in the other direction. Then he tried to defend himself, saying, “How could that be? I just came over to get some fresh air. Honestly, I wouldn’t have even noticed if you hadn’t brought it up. Are you jealous?”
He took Rachel’s hand, but she pulled away and replied sarcastically, “You can think about whoever you want. As the head of the Lawson Group, you can have as many affairs as you like. Just being here with me, the aging Mrs. Lawson, is something to commend.”
Brady wasn’t bothered by her words. He smiled and joked, “You are my one and only legal wife! The lady of the Lawson family. No other woman can catch my eye.”
Brady had a special way of making people feel comfortable. After a little encouragement from him, Rachel let go of her cold attitude and became happier. She even allowed the salesperson to take him to the fitting room to try on the suit she had picked out for him.
