OLIVIA
“What’s going on here? What have you been discussing in my absence?” Rene focused her gaze on me. She made me develop a guilty conscience even without committing any crime.
“I honestly don’t know. Perhaps, you should ask him. He’s in a better position to explain what he’s talking about,” I replied and stylishly exempted myself from their drama.
“Can we see Cyril now? I’m pretty sure he would be waiting to see Rene,” Kate suggested.
“Not until the Doctor tells me what I want to know,” Rene insisted. She was becoming too demanding for every second that went by, hence making it difficult for me to caution her due to what was at stake.
“It’s nothing for you to worry about. I saw you being wheeled outside by a nurse. Although it was Dark, I was still able to recognize you,” Doctor Escobar explained and opened the can of worms. It was a terrible night. I wished it would be forgotten for eternity. Now I’m going to deal with the fresh memory again.
“I remember now.
Take me to Cyril’s ward. I want to see him,” Rene ordered Escobar like a boss.
Escobar glared at me awkwardly and wondered what Rene’s attitude was about. Until we arrived at Cyril’s ward, Escobar wouldn’t stop staring at her, though he wanted to hit her in the face for being rude towards him.
We found Cyril asleep. I was a bit delighted to see him in such a condition. Deep down, I prayed for Cyril to regain his lost memory when he finally woke up. That’s the only way I would stop seeing Rene. As long as Cyril hasn’t fully recovered, she will continue to make life unbearable for me
“He’s asleep now.
I guess we’ll check back later,” I suggested.
“And you do think I’m going to come back? What have you been smoking lately?” Rene attacked me with the question.
“Can you please excuse us for a minute?” I sought permission from everyone and was dragged outside to have a private discussion with her.
“Ouch, do you want to hurt me? Why pull my arm like that?” She bemoaned.
“Hurt you?
Why do that now where it can easily be done where no one would suspect a thing?” I ignored her rants.
“What In heaven’s name did you do there? Are you trying to manipulate me with your tricks?”
“Do you think I enjoy doing this with you?” She smirked while nursing the bruised arm that almost got ripped off by my sharp nails.
“Me neither.
You sound as though you are doing this for free. I am fucking paying you. Isn’t that enough for you to act responsibly? What else do you want?” I shouted at her with a loud voice without considering where I was.
“Olivia, Cyril is finally awake. He wants to see Rene now,” Kate informed us. I was so engrossed yelling at Rene that I wasn’t even aware when she showed up.
“We would be there in a bit,” I smiled at Kate to avoid raising any suspension.
“Now you listen to me. You will go inside and do what you paid for. Is that understood?” I issued the final warning to Rene before letting her leave.
“Oh, my days.
Is this you?
Where in heaven’s name have you been?” Cyril joyfully asked the moment he saw Rene walk inside his ward. He never felt the same way when he saw me next to his bed when he woke up.
I was mad at Cyril, most importantly myself. If I hadn’t spent the night at Adrian’s mansion, I wouldn’t have found myself in this pathetic situation where I have to worship Rene for things to go my way.
With my anger boiling, I watched Rene walk up to Cyril and sit next to him on the bed as though she were legally married to him.
“Adrian?” Cyril mentioned Adrian to the surprise of everyone.
“Yes, that’s my name.
Do you remember me?” Adrian was stunned.
“Of course I do.
Your Uncle Dante’s nephew, right?” Cyril asked again for clarification. I was impressed by his performance. A while ago, he could barely recognize anyone aside from Rene. It was a signal that his memory was gradually coming back.
“Yes, I am.
I’m so happy that you can remember. Do you remember Lydia as well?” Adrian pointed at me to confirm if I still had the chance to save my marriage again.
“Yes, I do.
She’s my secretary.
Why is she not in the company?” Cyril dashed my hopes just when I thought I would finally stop seeing Rene’s face.
“I had to stay back and watch over you after the accident,” I stuttered and salivated to swallow the insult from Cyril.
“Can you just shut the fuck up? I didn’t ask you to speak. You can only speak when I say so. Are we clear?” Cyril blasted me just when I thought I was free from his humiliation.
“Yes, Boss,”
I nodded like a slave. I lost touch with reality. I felt like a stranger in the presence of everyone including Kate, my assistant.
“Babe, please ask her to leave. She’s not needed here. She needs to be running the company,” Cyril tasked Rene to kick me out.
“Excuse me?” I flickered my brows.
It’s just my first day, and I’m already sick and tired of Rene’s threat.
“You got a problem with that?
If you got something in your mind, spill it and stop acting like a dummy,”
“Nothing, Cyril.
I will just leave,” I bowed to pressure and still stood there. I couldn’t bear to leave alone knowing the evil things she was capable of doing.
“Did you just address me by my first name, or I’ve suddenly lost my hearing ability?” Cyril raged. He stood up in an attempt to hit me when Adrian stopped him. It’s almost like he never lost his memory. He still hasn’t forgotten his abusive behaviors toward me.
“You’re laid off!
I want you out of my sight this minute. I never see your ugly face anymore. I’ll instruct you to find your replacement first thing tomorrow,” Cyril commanded. That was the moment I knew it was time to leave. Staying back might make me do stupid things and have me locked up in jail for eternity.
