Paige rushed out of the rooftop at a quick pace and locked it.
Just two floors down, there was a jumble of footsteps from below.
“Quickly, Beauty must have jumped from the upper floors, the normal thought process must be the rooftop, let’s go to the rooftop and see if there’s anything we can write a big story about.”
“Is that ghetto man the culprit?”
“Where does this know ah, I’m telling you, this time A country absolutely messed up, early to think of ways to run it.”
“Run for what, the airplanes are grounded, where to run?”
Paige looked down, recognizing the sound coming from the direction of the elevator, she pressed the stair railing with one hand, lifted her leg and flipped and leaped and longed down, repeating this, quickly arriving at the next floor, and the next.
Exit through the hallway.
By the time she reached the sixth floor, Paige stood in the empty, cold hallway and pulled out her cell phone, which had been vibrating.
Enrico, 15 calls.
Nick, 4 calls.
Carrie, 3 calls.
As well as, a few calls from plutocrats and aristocrats.
Paige takes a few steps back and leans into the corner, the man crouching down involuntarily, breathing a little heavily as she holds her cell phone and replies.
[Paige: Nick, immediately send someone to block off Alfredo’s residence, study location, and no matter what comes, first seize his computer.]
After sending this one, she looked at the screen full of Enrico’s incoming calls and reached out to press down.
Her fingers trembled terribly.
In the end, she moved the call page away and cut to the send message screen.
[Paige: I’m fine, I’m going to take a walk alone and come home later.]
Two text messages, Paige was tired of sending, and in the middle of it, various calls kept dialing in, interrupting her movements.
After sending them, Paige directly turns her phone off and slowly walks down the stairs.
…
Nightfall.
In front of Temple in Heaven’s building, more and more people were crowding in, in addition to reporters, each pointing at the building and scolding something.
On the far side of the road, Paige sits in her car and watches silently.
On the radio two radio hosts were having a heated discussion –
“THE GRANGER FAMILY has called an emergency press conference stating that Beauty’s creation of the virus is an unprecedented conspiracy and THE GRANGER FAMILY will pursue it to the end at all costs.”
“The Granger family also had their own spokespersons come out to speak, and all they said was that Paige was responsible for this matter. Who is Paige, right? That’s the girl who single-handedly implemented the slum redevelopment program, only 25 years old, before many media called her a miracle ha.”
“Well that’s quite the miracle now.”
“The presidential administration has yet to give a concrete report on the investigation, saying that everything is now focused on suppressing the virus first.”
“…”
“The news is a bit confusing right now to be honest, there are three theories, one is that the Wind Island people were picked up without a special medical checkup which led to bringing the Ferris wheel virus back into the country, the second is that the eldest daughter of THE GRANGER FAMILY, Beauty, is furious with the entire Zaibatsu family for a personal vendetta, and the third theory is the newest to come out, the Slum Freshman Alfredo messed up.”
“I don’t know which scenario you listening to the program prefer, feel free to contact us and we’ll discuss it together.”
“Eh, a listener is calling in, let’s answer it.”
The light from the streetlamps scratched across the windows of the car, blurring the side of Paige’s face inside.
In the crowd in front of the building, suddenly people were throwing bricks at the front door and glass, yelling something at the top of their lungs.
On the radio, a variety of audience voices came in–
“Two of the three statements are in favor of the slums, needless to say?”
“I don’t care who did it, I just want to keep my job, I lead a company that is owned by THE Reynolds family, and now several of THE Reynolds family’s biggest names have been hit, the stock price is dropping like crazy, and the company is going to lay off employees! I’m going to lose my job! I won’t be able to survive!”
“We’ve been designated as a quarantine zone, and I don’t want to stay home every day! I want freedom! Whoever created this virus will die in a million years!”
“I’ve long said that there are problems with the rebuilding of the slums program, the slums have existed in country A for more than a hundred years, there must be a significance to its existence, don’t talk to me about equality, there are some people who don’t deserve to be equal, you guys know, right, they raped, killed people, and brought their own viruses, and now it’s just more than 3, 000 people who have destroyed the whole country A.”
“If you ask me, what’s his name, Paige right? Too small in perspective, too short sighted, only 25 years old, how can he make it at such a young age.”
“I mean, can you radio stations get a hold of Paige? It’s time for her to come forward and admit her guilt. If she didn’t care about making a name for herself, how could things have gotten to this point?”
In front of the building, someone set up a ladder and climbed up.
Within moments, two large posters unfolded and fell, one with Alfredo’s picture and one with hers, both of them painted with a big black cross.
Carried from top to bottom.
Four corners, a few large letters.
A Sinner.
Paige sat in the car, hands on the steering wheel, quietly listening and watching.
After a long moment, she turned the car around and drove away.
At the beginning of the night, the entire The Capital was immersed in a colorful light, and from a distance, it seemed that nothing had changed.
From a distance, nothing seemed to have changed, but upon closer inspection, everyone’s steps became hurried and hurried.
Paige parked her car in one of the Capital’s busiest plazas and stepped out of the car wearing a mask.
The strip of lights stretched into the distance like a river of stars, and the angel statue on top of the dome stood more than ten meters tall, as if it were guarding everything majestically.
She walked forward step by step, silently watching it all.
Compared to her slow steps, the people around her took on a layer of hurried panic.
Small couples ran to their carts pushing oversized shopping carts piled high and stuffed to the brim with household items.
“What should we do? Didn’t buy candles, I told you, in case of chaos, the power and water will definitely go out, candles have to be bought.”
“I was wrong, wife, I’ll go buy them.”
“Can’t buy it, you didn’t see the line at the supermarket, what kind of queue has formed, let’s go out of the city to the countryside overnight, the countryside is good, the land is big and the people are small, the virus won’t spread to it so easily.”
Not far away from the brightly lit drugstore, a gray-haired old man, walking out with difficulty, a very shaky hand carrying a bag of medicine.
He walked towards the old lady who sat in front of the steps and coughed terribly, helped her up with difficulty, choked and said, “Wife, you bear with it, this hospital is full of people who want to check for viruses, this little cough of yours, just buy some medicine and go home to eat it.”
“Sinful ah, I’m so old, I can still run into this kind of thing, cough cough.”
The old lady coughed and shook her head, leaving with the old man in tow.
Paige stood in front of the massive statue, her hands in the pockets of her trench coat, her body so cold that it wasn’t even warm.
The light fell on her body, making her look like a walking corpse.
She looked around her woodenly at the people in a hurry.
