Chapter 67

Melody stepped out of the car, and the guard, already positioned beside her, quickly scanned the surroundings to ensure no threats were present. He couldn’t help but admit that he was feeling quite anxious now that he was the sole person responsible for guarding their boss lady.
Meanwhile, Melody was casually strolling without much regard for her surroundings which left the guard a little confused.
“Ma’am,” the guard asked, perplexed, “Why are we in a store instead of a restaurant or food store?”
“I think I want to cook for them,” Melody grabs the cart and starts to push it.
“But, ma’am. It’s better if you just buy it,” the guard tries to confront her. He wants them to go back as fast as they can.
Besides, he worried that she might wear out since she was pregnant.
“Come on, don’t worry. I’m only in the early stages. There’s no need to be worried of,” she waves her hand and smiles.
The guard sighs. He can’t do anything but just go along with him. He takes out his phone and text Celestia.
‘I already texted Victor, and he will be right there. Don’t worry,’ Celestia
Seeing her reply, the guard lets out a relieved sigh. Thank goodness. Now, he just hopes Victor will be fast. As he raised his head, Melody was gone.
Panic once again fills his body.
“Ma’am? Ma’am! Where are you!?” He calls
Damian sat in the living room, his leg impatiently twitching as he glanced at the clock. The clock’s relentless ticking only fuelled his growing impatience.
“Where the hell is he?” he muttered in frustration, his patience hitting its limit.
Matthew, leaning against the couch behind him, responded with a nonchalant tone, “His assistant said he went out to buy snacks for both of you.”
Damian frowned, “Snacks? I didn’t come here to relax or have a movie marathon.”
His friend rolled his eyes in response, “Calm down. It’s not like he’ll come right away just because you call and yell at him.
Damian’s frown deepened as he knew the truth in his friend’s words. Riccardo, his friend, always had a knack for getting on his nerves, and he was the only one who didn’t even fear him. Their friendship might have changed over time, but Riccardo would always stay the same.
No matter how Damian saw him.
“Why are you so eager to go back, anyway?” Matthew inquired, his curiosity piqued.
He simply replied, “No reason.”
Matthew, however, saw through the lie in his tone and smirked. “Really? Or is there more to it than that?” He grinned, knowing there was more to Damian’s eagerness to leave.
“What do you mean?” He asked, feigning ignorance.
Matthew sighs and straightens up, walking over to the other couch and plopping down. “Come on, be honest,” he urges. “You’re worried about Melody, your sweet wife,”
Hearing the mention of Melody, his body stiffens.
“What are you talking about? Don’t be ridiculous,” he rolled his eyes, trying to deny any truth in Matthew’s words.
Matthew let out another sigh and looked at him with a mixture of disbelief and amusement. “I don’t understand you two,” he remarked.
Matthew continued, “Have you both realised what you’ve been doing or not? You treat each other like a husband and wife, and the way you look at each other already tells everything.”
Damian was momentarily speechless, realizing the truth in his friend’s words but not wanting to admit it.
“We’re just helping each other. That’s all,” he firmly asserted, refusing to admit the depth of his feelings.
Matthew raised an eyebrow at him, unimpressed. “Really? Then tell me why you don’t want her to divorce you?” He pressed, knowing he had hit a nerve.
Damian struggled to answer, his mind racing for an excuse or lie to answer. Even he is not sure why. He couldn’t find the words to deny what Matthew was saying. Seeing his hesitation, Matthew smirked, knowing that he had struck a chord.
“See? You can’t even answer it,” Matthew said, his smirk widening. “You guys have to talk about it.”
“What are we supposed to talk about?” He asked, still trying to brush off the subject.
Matthew leaned back and crossed his arms, a determined look in his eyes, “Feelings.” He responded simply.
Damian’s scowl deepened as the topic of their conversation turned towards feelings. “Are you bullshitting me?” he retorted, his annoyance apparent.
He, undeterred, replied with a matter-of-fact tone, “I’m not. You both don’t have a proper definition for your relationship.”
Damian chuckled at the mention of a status, “Why do I need a status when I already have a ring on her finger? It’s obvious that she belongs to me.”
Matthew raised an eyebrow at Damian’s words but proceeded to explain, “To make things clearer, perhaps?”
Damian’s smirk widened, his confidence evident in his words. “I don’t need to. Everything about her screams about Angelo’s family. Even if someone tries to take her away, they wouldn’t last long.”
The certainty in Damian’s tone left Matthew momentarily stunned. It wasn’t love or romance that defined his commitment to Melody; it was possessiveness. He didn’t just want love; he wanted complete control over her.
Finally, a realization dawned upon Damian as the absence of Victor caught his attention.
“Where is Victor?” he inquired, his irritation towards his friend briefly forgotten.
Matthew, still lounging on the couch, answered nonchalantly, “He said he had work to do. He left a minute ago.”
Meanwhile, Melody, in the other section, is still struggling to choose which type of ingredients she needs. She is not even aware that the guard is panicking about finding her.
“Should I make spaghetti or just a sandwich? But, a sandwich is kind of boring…” she mumbles to herself.
As she was busy with herself, she didn’t realise someone was beside her. She finally made up her mind. She grabs the spaghetti sauce.
“Well, I will make something special for my staff!” She beams.
She is about to turn to walk when she accidentally bumps into someone. The sauce jar she held fell from her hand and broke into pieces.
“Oh gosh! I’m so sorry!” Melody quickly apologized.
“I’m the one who should say that,” the man speaks up. “Are you okay? Are you hurt, miss?”
“No, I’m fine. I should have seen where I’m going,” she sighs.
The man smiles, “It’s fine. It’s my fault too to stand near you causing there’s no space for you to walk.”
Melody glanced at the broken pieces. It looks like she has to pay for that, too. Thank goodness Damian is not here. If he was here, for sure, he would scold and be sarcastic with her for the whole day.
That will be annoying.
The staff came to clean up the mess. She kneels to help as well.
“Wait, you don’t have to, ma’am,” the staff said.
“It’s okay. It’s my mess anyway,” Melody says as she smiles.
The man was about to help, but his body was stiff when he saw something. The necklace slips out of Melody’s top as she bends a bit. That pendant…
He recognized that pendant very well.
After a moment, the staff leave after saying thank you to them for help. Melody grabs another sauce jar, a new one. She puts it in the cart and turns to him.
“Are you okay, sir?” She asks in confusion as she notices his expression.
“Huh? Yeah… I’m fine. May I know your name, miss?” He politely smiles.
Melody smiles brightly, “Sure. I’m Melody.”
“Melody. Such a sweet name. I believe you already married?” He glances at the ring on her finger.
“Oh yes. I am.” She chuckles. “How about you, sir? May I know your name?”
The man smirks.
“My name is Matthias…”
“It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Matthias,” Melody smiles. She glanced at her watch, “I hope we can chat, but I got to go.”
“Sure. No problem,” Matthias nods.
Melody waves at him before turning away to walk. Matthias watches her leave. A man, whom he guessed was her guard, came toward her. That guard’s expression looks relieved, at the same time, panic.
“Ma’am! Don’t wander around like that!” The guard scolds her.
“I’m sorry. I’m just excited,” she giggles.
Matthias tilts his head and smirks, “Huh. It seems like Damian got a new family member that I don’t know of.”
They went out of the store. The guard held all the ingredients she had bought. Melody’s steps halted as she saw a black car pull up in front of them. Victor came out of it and rushed toward her.
“Victor? What are you doing here?” She frowns.
He, catching his breath, glanced at the guard who mouthing ‘thank goodness’. “I heard you being stubborn again. If Damian knows this, I bet your ears will bleed off.”
“Oh come on. I just went out to buy some lunch,” Melody grunts. “Why does it have to be a big deal?”
“Because you are pregnant, and Damian strictly told us to keep you in strict mode,” Victor crossed his arms, “If something happened to you, all of us dead including you.”
“So dramatic,” she rolls her eyes and walks off.
Victor and the guard exchange looks and sighs.
