“Should we go get him?” I asked.
She sent him a text, asking that question. The reply must have pissed her off, because she threw her phone onto the seat next to her and yelled out, “DAMN IT!”
I wasn’t sure what to say, so just stayed silent. Her sister finally broke the silence, “Katie, what’s wrong now?”
“It’s BRIAN! That ASSHOLE said he already has one of his buddies coming over, so they can have a ‘guy’s night’ playing poker or something. What an ass… GRRRR!”
She was obviously seething, that he would pick hanging out with his buddies, over her. “Perhaps you should call him?” I asked.
She picked up the phone, dialed his number and he answered on the second ring. “Hi Brian. What the heck? You don’t want to come with us now?” she asked in rapid succession. Hearing one side of a conversation is always odd, but that’s what we got.
“Yeah, I know.” She listened. “WHO THE FUCK IS THAT? I can hear someone there, and it DOESN’T sound like one of your BUDDIES!”
Her face started getting very red, and I half expected steam to start billowing from her ears. Whatever he was saying, it was wrong. What she said next, blew my damn mind.
“How DARE you! I have never cheated on you, EVER. We are DONE! I am going away this weekend without you, and going to let Teri’s boyfriend FUCK MY BRAINS OUT!” She hung up on him, and tossed the phone on the truck seat.
Needless to say, there was a stunned silence in the truck that lasted several minutes. I finally cleared my throat, and tried to lighten the mood. “So… Teri is my girlfriend? Glad I finally found out,” I said with a grin.
It wasn’t much, but it was enough to get both girls at least giggling. We were able to chat about things other than relationships for the remaining time on the freeway, and before we knew it, we pulled into the ferry dock.
The Mukilteo ferry dock was neat, in its own way. The ferry terminal had these huge queuing lines for vehicles, but while you waited for loading or a boat, you could walk across the street to the small walk-up Ivar’s chowder house. I personally never loved their fish, but it wasn’t bad in a pinch.
We all went together, and the girls got some ice cream while I got a milkshake. We went back to the truck and waited for the current ferry to unload, before they started running us all on. Our turn came, and we were guided up into the middle of the boat. No real surprise there, considering the size of my truck.
Once we parked, I asked the girls if they wanted to go up on the deck. My response was a huge “DUH” and eye-rolling from both of them. We all climbed out of the truck, locking it, and walked up the stairs to the main passenger deck. I went to the concession stand to get a coffee, and then we all went out on the front observation deck to watch us get under way.
The view today was absolutely amazing. I mean, the scenery was great too, but these two gorgeous twins, arm in arm with me out on that deck as we watched the boat begin moving out onto the water. There were no clouds in the sky, plenty of gently rolling waves on the Puget Sound, and a very warm breeze picking up from the south.
Both girls hugged onto my arms a bit harder, and I pulled them into me. Thankfully we didn’t say much, but I know that I didn’t need to. The moment was perfect, and I didn’t want to ruin it.
After a minute, Teri exclaimed, “LOOK! Over there!” She pointed off to the north, at the water. “Is that a whale?” she asked.
I looked to where she was pointing, and sure enough it looked like one of our migrant Orca whales, swimming, doing that arc up and over the top of the water that they do.
“Yeah, that sure does look like an Orca, huh? Very cool.” I said.
“Ok, well, I am going to go to the bathroom, and then head down to the truck,” stated Katie. “See you guys down there in a few minutes.”
She left us at that railing, and I hugged Teri a bit closer. Having known her for two years now, I had never really LOOKED at her or her twin until recently. I mean, they were both cute little teeny-boppers before, but they were underage so, of course, they had been completely off-limits. Now, though, was another matter entirely. They were both full blown hotties.
“Teri, thank you for inviting me to come with you guys. I have a feeling that this weekend is going to be epic,” I said with a huge smile. I still couldn’t believe that guy Brian would pass up on a weekend in a cabin with these two. Oh well, his loss, and my gain.
She just stared at me for a bit, then pulled my head down to her and gave me another kiss. This kiss was not the hunger filled passion of that first kiss in my house. This one was warm and tender, and made me hug her tight as we kissed. Sure she was just freshly graduated from High School, but this girl… no… this woman, was starting to really get to me.
We broke the kiss, and she just looked up into my eyes with those beautiful blue orbs, sparkling like the sunlight dancing off the waves in the distance. I was mesmerized, hooked, by those eyes. She got a huge smile at the way I was looking at her.
“You kinda like me, huh?” The grin grew until it looked like it was going to split her face.
“Busted. It doesn’t hurt that you are really easy to like,” I answered, with a huge grin of my own.
We stayed out for a minute more, and then went back down to the truck. In no time at all, we were docked at the island side, and driving off the ferry. If you have never been to the Pacific Northwest, it is hard to describe the landscape. Right off the ferry, we drove up the hill and towards the middle of the island.
We passed a few winery tasting rooms that seemed to be as common to Whidbey Island as Starbucks is common in downtown Seattle. I commented to the girls that we might want to try some wine tasting over the weekend.
“Yeah but don’t they card here? I mean it’s not like we are in a different country or anything,” said Katie.
“Most probably won’t, but it’s not like you go to get drunk anyhow. You taste the wine, buy the ones you like, and THEN go home and get drunk,” I said with a wink. My reward was two giggling beauties.
I drove a bit longer, until we came to the first small town on the island. I pulled into the smallish grocery store lot, and we all went in to get some more supplies. I grabbed some wine and beer, and some grilling meats for dinner one of the two nights. Having been here before, I knew that it was truly a Bed and Breakfast, and had farm fresh brown eggs in the fridge already, along with some pastries and other assorted items for breakfast.
While at the store, I managed to get Katie’s attention and away from her sister for just a minute. I wanted to make sure that she was still doing ok, and I just HAD to ask about her promise to her now ex-boyfriend.
“Katie, are you OK, I mean after all the stuff that happened?” I paused to let her answer.
“I think so, yeah. I am still a bit pissed that he has the nerve to insult me, after HE was the one that was cheating. Also John, you can just call me Kate if you like.” She was smiling at me, and gave me a quick hug.
And now, the million dollar question, did she mean what she said about screwing my brains out? Only one way to find out, well maybe two…
“OK, Kate. Did you really mean what you told Brian, about me?” I asked.
“HAH, wouldn’t you like to know?” There was that almost evil look again. These two were going to melt me into a puddle by tomorrow.
We left after paying for our supplies, and drove on to the B&B. I went in to the office to get all checked in, and our lodge keys. The older gentleman working was part owner, and loved the place. It was pretty easy to tell.
I walked back out to the truck, and drove the three of us down the driveway to ‘The Lodge’. The place was immense, as we could start to see parts of it even from a distance. As we got to the end of the drive, it opened up into a larger area. There was the pond on the right of the road, just as the front office guy had told us. On the left was a small roundabout to allow guests to turn around, I suppose.
The Lodge itself was huge, even more so now that we were up close. The whole building was a log cabin, but with some obvious modifications. On the side facing the pond, there was a large outdoor sitting area, on top of a porch that seemed to stretch along the whole length of that wall. That wall was mostly all windows, the floor-to-ceiling type. The roof was pitched high, and off center to give it a rugged look.
Every foot or two there was some prop to make the place feel OLD. By the door was an old firewood basin, and just next to that was an old clothes wringer (Yeah, the kind that you would wash a shirt in, and THEN manually wring it out with the wooden rollers and hand crank). On both sides of the door, hung a pair of old oil lanterns, long past their prime.
We ventured into the place, all basically saying, “WOW!” at the same time. Going in was like stepping back in time. The fireplace dominated the room, and was at least six feet tall by eight feet wide. The stone around it looked like some very smooth polished river rocks, and the mantle was a thick slab of stained oak. On top of the mantle was a Remington rifle, like the kind that was used by Lewis and Clark.
