Chapter 45: Run all you want

Book:Mated To The Rogue King Published:2024-11-9

Brian’s POV
it has been a torment, staying away from my mate Cara, no matter how I had tried to push her away, now she is gone, i felt empty odd my mind, nothing worked, I have been thinking about her for as long as I can remember, it has become worse to the extent I had mistakened my secretary for Cara one time, only for my hope to be painfully extinguished.
The meeting room was dimly lit, the air thick with the heavy arrogant auras of Clown that I call Elders. It was suffocating, and all I wanted was to get out of there. I shifted in my chair, my fingers tapping lazily against the table, my mind somewhere far away, focused on Cara. It’s been a week now. Seven excruciatingly long days, and every second that passed felt like fire licking at my skin.
“… and we can not ignore the danger she poses!” Julius’ one of the Elders’ voice, as usual, grated on my nerves. “If her bloodline continues to awaken, we’ll lose any chance of containing her power. She’s no ordinary omega; she’s a ticking time bomb.”
I clenched my jaw, resisting the urge to hurl the chair across the room at his face, My wolf happily agreed with the thought.
They didn’t care about Cara. To them, she wasn’t a person; she was a commodity, a tool they wanted to control, to exploit.
“This runaway omega…” Julius continued with that irritating tone, “has shown no respect for our authority. If we don’t bring her back, her potential could fall into the hands of another pack or, even worse, to the council. She belongs to us!”
“That’s enough,” I finally snapped, and all eyes turned to me. My voice was laced with danger, and I made no effort to hide my contempt for this farce of a meeting. “She doesn’t belong to anyone.”
Dominic leaned forward, eyes glinting with malice. “You’ve always been too soft on her, ever since she came, Brian. If you can’t control your own slave, how can you expect to lead this pack?”
My fists clenched so hard I felt my nails bite into my palms. “I don’t recall asking for your opinion, Dominic,” I said through gritted teeth.
Emelda’s soft voice cut through the tension, “Brian, we understand that Cara is your personal slave, but the power she carries, it’s not something that should be left unchecked. If harnessed correctly, it could elevate this pack to heights we’ve never seen before, we would finally defeat the council, we would rule the whole of Ellorin”
“And you think I don’t know that?” I growled. “You think I don’t understand what she is, what she’s capable of? I’m not blind.”
Kyle snorted, “Could’ve fooled me.” He was leaning back in his chair, a smug expression plastered across his face. “You’ve been chasing after a lost cause while the rest of us have been cleaning up your mess. Maybe it’s time you admit that you’re not cut out for this.”
That was it. I was out of my chair and across the table in a heartbeat, my hand fisted in Kyle’s shirt as I dragged him close, the tip of my nose nearly touching his. “Say that again,” I snarled, “and I’ll make sure you’re the next ‘lost cause’ this pack has to clean up.”
Kyle’s bravado evaporated instantly, his old eyes wide with fear. I shoved him back into his chair with disgust.
“and to any of you, if you have anything to tell me, come to my face and say it. I run this pack with my sweat and blood to make sure that we survive, unlike some old rusted bones like who does nothing but to make noise.
“Insolence… you don’t dare talk …”
“I will dare to do anything I want to do, the Omega is off-limits to anyone, I will find her myself, and I will discipline her as my personal property!!” I cutted short Julius in the middle of his nonsense he was about to speak.
“And if anyone dares and lay a hand on her” I said darkly. “They’ll see how dangerous I can be.”
The hall was enveloped in silence following my outburst, “This meeting is over,” I declared, straightening up and glaring at each of them in turn. “I won’t waste any more time sitting here and listening to your bickerings” I have a runaway mate I need to find.
“Brian dont let your anger rule you” Emelda called, finally finding her voice, “Be careful. The seat of elders will not tolerate any more failures.”
And immediately this girl is found, report immediatley”, Julius interjected from his seat.
I didn’t stick around to listen to more of their nonsense or if they agreed with the meeting being over. I pushed open the heavy doors and stepped into the cool night air. It felt like a weight had lifted off my chest, but only for a moment. Because all I could think about was Cara, out there somewhere, getting further away from me with every second.
Those fools, telling me what to do and what not to do, like I am their fucking slaves. They will say they have the interest of the pack but I know their real colours they are all for their selfish gains.
I was still seething when my phone buzzed in my pocket. I yanked it out, ready to tear into whoever was on the other end, but the name on the screen gave me pause.
“Garreth,” I answered, trying to keep the impatience out of my voice.
“Oooh, Alpha, who made the dragon mad today?” he joked.
“I will be more than passed if you don’t have any good news to offer” I warned sternly on the phone.
“Actually, yes goodnews,” he said, his tone turning serious. “We’ve picked up her scent. It’s faint, but it’s definitely her. We’re tracking it now.”
My heart skipped a beat, adrenaline flooding my veins. “Where?”
“Near the outskirts of the Great Woods,” he answered. “She might be hiding with a smaller pack or even a group of rogues. My best guess is the silverware pack, but We’re not sure yet.”
“Rogues?” The thought made my blood boil. “I don’t care who she’s with,” I growled. “Find her. And when you do, you call me immediately. Understand?”
“And remember don’t be rough on the omega, I need her in one piece, brought to me alive and well.”
“Yes, Alpha,” Garreth replied before the line went dead.
I stood there for a moment, staring at my new phone, the words echoing in my head. Cara was close, so close I could almost feel her. A slow, twisted smile spread across my face.
“Run all you want, Cara,” I whispered to the wind. “You can’t escape me. When I find you, I will make sure you pay for the humiliation and pain you made us pass through, for making us chase you. And this time, you’ll never get away.”
My wolf projected his agreement, he was in agreement to chain our mate down so that she won’t run away from us again.
The thrill of the hunt surged through me, and I welcomed it, letting it drive me forward. This wasn’t just about finding her. It was about reclaiming what was mine. And I’d tear the world apart to do it.
