Chapter 434: Being Set Up

Callie sat in the passenger seat, noticing Karlie’s silence. After a moment, she said, “I think I owe you an apology. The engagement between you and Mr. Scott started because of me and ended because of me. I’m very sorry.”
Karlie had a delicate appearance, but when she looked cold, she could be intimidating.
“Losing to Marilyn is one thing, but I don’t understand why I lost to you,” Karlie said, pressing the gas pedal harder and glancing at Callie. “I’ve looked into you. You have no family background, no connections, and even your looks are average. You’re even a married woman. Why, why does Jaquan like you?”
Callie frowned at this, “Miss Sherman, you misunderstand. Mr. Scott doesn’t like me.”
Karlie didn’t respond.
The car drove further and further away from the city center. Callie began to panic, “Miss Sherman, where are you taking me?”
“Why are you so nervous? When I became the laughingstock of the city, I wasn’t as nervous as you.”
“You…”
“It’s just a meal.” Karlie smiled and then stepped on the brake. They were next to a standalone villa. “Faithview Group has suffered significant losses. We’ve been trying to find connections to smooth things over. As the culprit, you naturally have to help my father share some of the burden.”
Callie gripped her seat belt tightly, feeling scared.
Karlie got out of the car and opened the door for her, “Didn’t you say you were sorry? Then show it with your actions. Is that so hard?”
Callie glanced at the brightly lit villa, which didn’t look like a place for a meal. “I can ask Nelson to help with Faithview Group’s issues. Please take me back, Miss Sherman.”
Karlie’s face darkened, “I’m the only one here. Are you afraid I’ll kill you? Don’t flatter yourself.”
In the tense standoff, Callie bit her lip and eventually got out of the car, following Karlie forward. She glanced at her phone; Nelson still hadn’t replied.
As soon as they entered the villa, Callie was suddenly pinned down by several bodyguards. She screamed, “What are you doing!”
The bodyguards were strong and easily restrained her. Callie panicked and looked up to see a portly man slowly descending the stairs. He looked like someone in charge and smiled, “Miss Marsh, I presume? Nice to meet you. I’m Baxter.”
Callie’s face was filled with fear, “What do you want…”
Karlie had disappeared at some point.
The man approached, reeking of smoke. He touched her face; she was indeed young and beautiful, with smooth skin that he found irresistible.
“You have been quite famous in Ylosea recently. I’ve heard you have powerful connections backing you up. Jaquan from Scott Group protects you, and Nelson even got angry for your sake. Now that I’ve met you, I must say, you are not as beautiful as I imagine.”
“If that’s the case, then let me go!” Callie retorted, realizing he wasn’t a good person.
“That won’t do. A woman fought over by both Nelson and Jaquan-I must savor this,” he said with an evil grin.
Callie began to tremble violently, realizing her foolishness. She spat out, “Disgusting!”
“Nelson is in Ylosea, right? I want to see if he’ll come to save you at this point. It will also let me test if you’re really that good in bed to have a man like him wrapped around your finger!”
