Callie listened and understood the gist. She carefully chose her words, “That one billion debt, Mr. Ellison’s investment succeeded, Shamar should have repaid it.”
“I’m not talking about the debt.”
As a young socialite, the entire Ylosea knew she had been rejected, which was a great humiliation.
This was Jaquan’s fault, and Callie didn’t want to take the blame for him. “Everyone should be responsible for their own actions, Miss Sherman. There’s no need to vent your anger on me.”
Karlie stared at her profile. “Jaquan offended the Faithview Group for you and even mortgaged his shares to get through the crisis. Miss Marsh, your identity is very special.”
Callie frowned and finally looked at her directly. “Mortgaged his shares?”
Karlie said no more, her eyes filled with resentment and dissatisfaction.
A hammer sounded, and the auction for the clock began. Many people gasped and focused their attention.
The starting bid was eleven million.
People began to bid one after another.
“Thirteen million.”
“Sixteen million.”
“Twenty million.”
They didn’t seem to treat money as money, just casually calling out numbers.
Callie remained silent, subconsciously looking towards Ahmad. He didn’t seem interested in bidding either, but Lucia had already made a move.
“Twenty-five million.”
The clock was indeed an antique, but it shouldn’t have made them all bid so eagerly. Callie was puzzled but then thought, for Lucia, was it nostalgia?
Nelson had given her strict orders: no matter the cost, she must win it.
When the bid reached fifty million, Callie raised her paddle. “Sixty million.”
Many people looked over at her. Lucia seemed to notice her for the first time, squinting her eyes with curiosity.
Ahmad smiled and signaled his secretary to raise the paddle. “Sixty-eight million.”
Callie’s heart sank. At this rate, the final price would be astronomical.
“Seventy-three million.”
“Seventy-six million.”
For some reason, Lucia suddenly stopped bidding. She just watched the price soar, sitting back to watch the show.
Some people continued to bid in small increments. During this time, Ahmad whispered a few words to his secretary, who then walked over to Callie and respectfully said, “Miss Marsh, our Mr. Ellison is determined to get this clock.”
Callie didn’t know if Nelson’s financial power could compare with Ahmad’s, but he was willing to risk offending others to get it for her. He must be determined as well.
She apologized, “This clock belonged to Mr. Oconnor’s father. It is very important to him. I hope Mr. Ellison can let it go and help us out.”
The secretary went back to Ahmad and conveyed the message. Ahmad’s interest in Callie grew even stronger.
Without a reply, Callie continued to raise her paddle. The price had already reached ninety million.
She lowered her head and sent a message to Nelson: “It’s at ninety million now.”
While waiting for a reply, there was a commotion as Ahmad walked over. He very gentlemanly said to Karlie beside him, “Karlie, could you let Mr. Ellison have this seat?”
Since he asked personally, Karlie naturally stood up as a junior. She apologized and stood up, “Mr. Ellison, of course.”
“Good girl, send my regards to your father.”
Karlie nodded and then said to Callie, “Let’s have dinner together after the auction.”
Callie wasn’t interested, but given the current situation, she couldn’t refuse. She nodded, “Alright.”
With Karlie gone, Ahmad crossed his legs and looked very gentlemanly. Though he was old, his demeanor was elegant and commanded respect instinctively.
