He said, how could she use such illegal means…
Perhaps before this, Nelson had always harbored a bit of leniency towards her, but now, hearing these words, he began to feel disappointed.
Marilyn started to panic. She wanted to say she wasn’t like that, but when she saw Nelson’s expression, she could only murmur, “I’m sorry, I know it’s wrong. I was just afraid you would blame Vanco for small mistakes in the future… I lost my mind for a moment. Nelson, you can handle me any way you want.”
In this situation, she could only submit endlessly.
Marilyn feared Nelson, without a doubt. Her fear had been cultivated over many years, coupled with a long-standing infatuation and humility. Whenever she saw him, even if she wanted to remain composed, she always ended up showing her submissiveness.
Girls are always proud; such a pitiful appearance made Nelson not want to look at her anymore after just one glance.
“Leave by yourself.”
It was both a release and an expression of impatience.
Marilyn almost burst into tears.
She walked with difficulty, each step feeling like it was treading on Nelson’s heart.
Nelson suddenly called out to her, “Marilyn, the reason I’ve been lenient with you repeatedly is because of your last name.”
These words hurt even more.
Marilyn stopped in her tracks. When she turned back, her face was already covered in tears, feeling extremely wronged.
Nelson was slightly stunned.
“Nelson, you’re so heartless. Have you never thought about me? Of course not. In your eyes and heart, there’s only Callie!”
Upon hearing that name, Nelson’s expression changed. It was a taboo. “Marilyn!”
Marilyn ignored him and poured out everything on her mind: “Did Callie accompany you as long as I did? Was my company not enough? I treated you so well. At one point, you made tea for me and taught me to play chess. You used to care about every detail of my life. When I called you by name, did you really not feel anything?”
Marilyn was just a woman in her twenties, crying so heartbreakingly.
She stepped forward, looking ridiculous in her attire. “You never thought about me. You never thought about me!”
One of the things Nelson hated most was women accusing him of things he didn’t care about. Many had done so before, and their outcomes were never good.
His eyes were sharp. Perhaps Marilyn’s crying reminded him of someone from his memories; he couldn’t say a word for a moment.
Marilyn mistook his pause for compassion. She tried to hold his hand; his fingers were so cold.
As soon as she touched him, he shook her off with disgust. Nelson made himself clear, “You misunderstood me.”
His expression was indifferent. “I’ve said it before; I’ve never done anything inappropriate to you. I see you as a sister. Someone targeted you because of me before. Now, my inability to tolerate this is because I feel indebted to you. Understand?”
He spoke so clearly and heartlessly. For him, it was already a great deal of patience.
Marilyn looked at him, then nodded and wiped her tears away hastily. She managed to compose herself quickly and returned to her sensible demeanor from before. “I lost my composure, Nelson.”
Nelson looked down at her from above.
Was he heartless towards Marilyn? Yet he wouldn’t have returned to Oconnor Group in the pouring rain to accept her interview, nor would he tolerate her crossing his boundaries now and still let her go.
But that was all he could do.
This was the extent of his capability.
