Alpha Alexander’s POV
From my hidden high point behind a thick tree trunk, I watched them. Cara, Emma, and Emily were perched halfway up an enormous oak, laughing and teasing each other as they playfully argued about who had climbed the fastest. The sight of them, carefree and at ease, was something I wasn’t usepd to. Especially Cara.
My eyes lingered on her, that stubborn, white-haired she-wolf who had stumbled into our lives with more secrets than I could count. Every time she spoke about where she came from, I couldn’t help but question if she was telling the truth. Was she really just a stray looking for a place to belong, or was there something more, something she was hiding?
since the first time she came, my wolf have been restless, something was not adding even as I try to make it to. she was found by my sister weak and at the verge of collapsing, an Omega couldn’t have made it through the great woods without encountering rogues.
maybe luck or something else, but it keeps bothering me that she is hiding something.
for God knows she might be faking everything, the weakness, the naive, and the bond with my sisters. was it also real, or just an act?.
And why did it matter so much to me?
I sighed, feeling an unfamiliar warmth in my chest as Cara threw her head back in laughter, an unguarded, genuine sound that made my heart skip a beat. It was a sound I hadn’t heard from her before, and despite myself, I felt an odd sense of happiness that she was finding moments of joy here. But that only made things more confusing. I let out a soft sigh, wondering why I was standing here like a fool,
was I even watching them?, was it I had more important things to do than stand here like some lovesick pup spying on a girl.
“Enjoying the view, Alpha?”
I stiffened at the voice, turning sharply to find Siden standing behind me, a smirk plastered across his face. “How long have you been standing there?” I demanded, irritation suddenly building up.
Sometimes I have always preferred the other twin the one with the turquoise hair, Aiden. He is much less of a fool like his brother, and foes not talk much.”
“Long enough,” Siden replied, his grin widening. “Didn’t take you for the spying type, Alexander. Should I be concerned?”
I scowled, crossing my arms over my chest. “I’m not spying,” I retorted, though even to my own ears, it sounded unconvincing. “I was just… making sure the girls were safe.”
“Uh-huh,” Siden drawled, clearly not buying it. “And what exactly is so dangerous about them climbing a tree?, oohh or will Cara injure the girls during training?.
I glared at him, but he merely chuckled, unbothered by my annoyance. “Anyway,” he continued, leaning casually against a nearby tree, “I came to let you know we had a little… issue with some of the neighboring rogues.”
Instantly, I shifted into Alpha mode, my interest piqued. “What happened?”
“Nothing too serious,” Siden said, waving a hand dismissively. “Just a couple of idiots testing the waters near the southern border. We gave them a good scare, sent them running back with their tails between their legs.”
“This isn’t the first time they’ve tried something,” I muttered, more to myself than to Siden. “Keep an eye on them. We can’t afford to be caught off guard, i sense they are upto no good.”
“Yes, yes, oh mighty Alpha,” Siden mocked, offering a theatrical bow that only served to irritate me further. “Anything else you’d like me to do? Fetch you a pair of binoculars for your… observation sessions?”
My jaw clenched, and I took a step toward him, letting out a low growl. “If you don’t have anything useful to add, Siden, I suggest you leave.”
“Touchy, touchy,” Siden grinned, but wisely took a step back. “Alright, alright, I’m going. Try not to get caught, yeah?”
“Out,” I snapped, pointing toward the woods, and he left with a laugh, clearly enjoying how much he had managed to ruffle my feathers.
I turned back toward the tree, ready to resume my silent watch, but the branch was empty. Cara, Emma, and Emily were gone, their laughter now just an echo in the forest.
I stood there for a moment, my heart sinking with a disappointment I didn’t want to acknowledge. I felt a rush of anger that felt like to strangle me. I was surprised i could feel that angruly just because someone decide to leave a spot free. What was I even doing, lurking in the shadows like some lost pup? I had responsibilities, duties to uphold. I wasn’t supposed to be watching over her like this,
Cara’s POV
“Come on, Cara, you’re too slow!” Emma teased, already halfway down the giant oak tree. Her laughter was infectious, echoing through the woods as Emily jumped all the way down.
I rolled my eyes, gripping the rough bark as I try to balance myself well getting ready for the fall “I’m going as fast as I can!” I called back, a smile tugging at my lips despite myself. There was something freeing about this moment, no training drills, no fights, just a simple game in the forest with my new friends.
After more laughs and teasing s with Emma and her sister, I finally made it to the sturdy ground and I let out a breathless laugh as I settled next to them. “I made it, didn’t I?”
Emily grinned. “Barely.”
“Next time, we’ll have to pick a taller tree,” Emma said with a wink, brushing a leaf out of her hair.
As we sat there, catching our breath and gazing out over the forest, I felt a sense of peace wash over me. It was one of the rare moments when I felt like a normal girl, not the outsider I often saw myself as.
You know, you’re not so bad, Cara.” Emily said suddenly.
I smirked. “I’ll take that as a compliment.”
Emma giggled. “We’re serious. We like having you around, and just your first day you have improved like this”.
A warm feeling spread through my chest, one I hadn’t felt in a long time. It was strange, but somehow, against all odds, I had found something like friendship here.
Let’s pack our bags an go back, the sun is already going down, Emily said, reminding us of the time.
As we headed back, I couldn’t help but smile.
