Brian’s POV
Her scent was everywhere, wrapping around me like a warm, sultry fog. It was intoxicating, sweet with a hint of wildness that drove me to madness. She was beneath me, her soft, warm skin trembling with need.
“Cara,” I whispered, my voice thick with longing. Her whimper awakened something in me. My fingers traced the curve of her cheeks, down to her neck, feeling the rapid beat of her pulse.
I leaned in, capturing her lips with mine, tasting her. Her hands slid up my chest, fingers digging into my shoulders as she pulled me closer, as if she couldn’t get enough of me. I groaned, my hands wandering over her body, tracing the curve of her hips, the soft dip of her waist, and the fullness of her breasts. Everything was perfect, every touch igniting a fire within me.
“Brian,” she breathed, her voice trembling with need, and it was like music to my ears. I moved lower, my hand sliding up her thighs, fingers brushing against the delicate fabric of her underwear, and she gasped, her hips arching into me.
“Tell me you want this,” I murmured against her skin, my voice rough and desperate. “Tell me you want me.”
“I want you, Daddy,” she whispered with a seductive voice that sent heat rushing to my core, making me tremble with pleasure.
I captured her lips once more, kissing her with passionate hunger. My hands found their way again to the fabric, and she whimpered, her body arching against mine. I could feel the heat, the wetness, and it drove me wild, made me ache to claim her, to take her, and to make her mine.
“Cara,” I growled, positioning myself above her, ready to take her and make her mine in every way possible…
Then it shattered.
The shrill, jarring ring of my phone tore through the air, yanking me out of the dream. My eyes snapped open, the heat of the moment fading, replaced with the cold, harsh reality of my empty office.
“Fuck!” I roared, slamming my fist against the table, the echo bouncing off the walls. My body was still thrumming with unspent desire, my breath coming in ragged gasps, and the ache of losing her again, even in my dream, was unbearable.
The dream had felt so real, Cara beneath me, her body trembling as I touched her, my name escaping her lips like a whispered prayer. Her scent had wrapped around me, sweet and intoxicating, driving every thought from my mind until all that existed was her and the fire between us.
I looked at the shrill phone as if it were my worst enemy. “These fucking devices and their disturbances, the world would be better without such nonsense,” I cursed angrily.
I grabbed the phone, my grip so tight I thought I might actually crush it. “This better be good,” I snarled, still lost in the remnants of the dream, my hand fumbling for the device, cursing as I blinked away the last remnant of my blissful imagination. “What?” I barked into the phone, my voice rough, raw with frustration.
“Alpha, it’s Garreth.” His voice was steady, but I could hear the tension beneath it. “We’ve picked up a lead on Cara. It’s faint, but it’s there.”
That snapped me awake. I sat up, the empty bottles of alcohol clattering to the floor around me. The sharp scent of whiskey filled my nose, mingling with the remnants of my dream, and I felt my wolf stir, restless and angry. Four days. Three agonising days since she left.
And it was starting to show. My office was a wreck, and so was I. I rubbed a hand across my face, trying to clear the fog from my mind. “Where?” I demanded, my voice coming out harsher than I intended.
“Near the outskirts of the Great Woods,” Garreth replied. “It’s not a solid lead, but it’s the best we’ve got.”
I could feel my pulse quicken, my wolf pushing to the surface, demanding that we go now, that we tear apart anyone who stood in our way. I was already on my feet, ready to march out of my office and leave this whole pack behind. “I’m going,” I growled, my mind made up.
“Brian, Alpha, wait.” Garreth’s voice was urgent now, pleading. “You can’t just leave. Your pack needs you. If you leave now, the elders will…”
“Damn the elders!” I snapped. “I don’t care about them. I don’t care about any of it. I’ll find her myself.”
“Alpha,” Garreth said quietly, and I could hear the desperation in his voice. “Please. You know what they’ll do if you abandon the pack now. They’ll strip you of your title, your power. And Cara… she’ll still be out there, but you’ll have nothing left.”
“Fuck the stupid elders and what the have to say, I am their alpha” I roared Into the phone.
“Let me handle this, Alpha. I promise to bring her back in one piece, unharmed,” he pleaded over the phone.
I took a deep breath, trying to shove down the fury that was clawing its way up my throat. He was right, damn him. I hated that he was right. “Fine,” I muttered, the word tasting like ash in my mouth. “I’ll stay. For now. But if I don’t get any more news soon or if there’s even a slight problem, to hell with the elders and their actions, I’m going there myself.”
“Understood, Alpha,” Garreth said, relief evident in his tone. “I’ll keep you updated.”
I hung up without another word, slamming the phone down so hard it cracked.
A soft knock sounded at my door, and I growled, barely able to contain my irritation. “What?” I snapped.
The door creaked open, and my secretary, Julia, peeked inside. Her eyes went wide when she saw me, and I realised too late that my shirt was hanging open, my pants low on my hips, and the evidence of my dream still very much… visible.
Her cheeks flushed a bright red, and she stammered, “I-I’m sorry, Alpha, I didn’t mean to…”
“What do you want?” I demanded, making no effort to cover myself. Let her squirm. Maybe it would take the edge off my anger.
She swallowed hard, her gaze darting anywhere but at me. “The elders have requested your presence,” she said, her voice trembling. “They said it’s urgent.”
Of course, they did. I clenched my jaw, every muscle in my body tensing with irritation, those sick manipulative fools. “Fine. Tell them I’m on my way,” I growled.
She nodded quickly, in her haste, dropping her files on the floor, “so… sorry master, I was clumsy,” she apologized, squirming under my hard glare.
“Throw away this…” I motioned to the now brokened phone on my table, ” and get me a new one. ” I commanded
“yes master”
she nodded, still flustered, and practically fled from the room, and I let out a long, ragged breath. I could feel the rage building inside me, threatening to spill over, but I forced it down. I would deal with the elders, for now. And then, I would find Cara no matter what. I decided.
And when I did, there would be no more running. Not for her
