Chapter 30: Outsmarted and played

Book:Mated To The Rogue King Published:2024-11-6

Cara’s POV
The undeniable alpha aura followed his footsteps. His pressure bearing down on the twins who were already trembling in horror. It has never been a time where a non-alpha challenges and wins an alpha. It’s an unspeakable and undeniable rule in the whole of Ellorin.
His gaze swept across the room, and for a brief moment, the air grew thick with power, forcing everyone, especially the twins, to lower their heads in submission. The nurse, who had been standing silently by, cast her eyes down in guilt, likely having alerted him through the pack link.
Oh, big brother, Siden is being mean to me!” Emma’s shrill voice shattered the heavy silence as she pointed an accusatory finger at her brother.
“Emma, you shouldn’t be here, remember you must follow the Alpha’sinstrustions,” the Alpha said, his menacing aura vanishing immediately as he addressed her. His tone softened instantly.
“Okay, big brother, I’ll go to training now,” she muttered, her earlier defiance melting away. Only the Alpha seemed to have that kind of control over her.
The Alpha glared at the two brothers, who scrambled to their feet, mumbling apologies. Aiden gave me a quick, apologetic nod before leading Emma out of the room. The nurse followed after receiving a silent command through the pack link. The vacant look in her eyes told me that the Alpha was communicating with her telepathically.
The communication through the pack link, Is a way alphas pass across information to their pack mates without speaking out aloud. In this way it is easier for the alpha to communicate regardless of barriers.
Once everyone had left, the room was unnervingly quiet. The Alpha’s eyes locked on mine, filled with curiosity. I sat frozen, my gaze wary. This man could snap my neck in an instant if he wanted to. Not to mention, he had drugged me and taken me hostage. I was on his territory, and I had no idea what he was planning.
“Sorry for my little sister’s antics,” he said with a chuckle. “I heard some of what she said. She can be a real pain.”
The sudden shift in his demeanour threw me completely off guard. Moments ago, he had radiated power and authority, but now… he was almost relaxed, casual even. It didn’t make sense.
I narrowed my eyes, refusing to drop my guard. “Who are you? Why did you kidnap me?”
His brow furrowed at my accusation. “Kidnap you? I should be asking you that. You infiltrated *my* territory. Are you a rogue? Or maybe a spy sent to watch us?”
I blinked, confused. “Infiltrated? Territory?” I echoed. Debby had told me there were no other packs for miles. Unless…
“Talk,” he demanded, his voice hard and commanding, reminding me just who I was dealing with.
I quickly shook my head, snapping out of my daze. “No, no! I’m not a spy, nor am I your enemy. I… I got lost from my family. We were attacked by a group of bandits and in the process got separated,” I lied, hoping he would believe me.
He narrowed his eyes, clearly not convinced yet. His silence stretched on, and I could feel my pulse racing as he studied me. ‘Please, just buy the story,’ I thought, silently pleading for Emma to return with her distracting antics.
After what felt like an eternity, he finally spoke. “I see. So, you got lost?”
i nodded, breathing in a quiet sigh of relief. Maybe he bought my story after all.
“So, where is your family now? Which pack do you belong to?” His next question made my heart skip a beat.
scrambling for a quick answer. “I… I’m from the Mafian Wo… Wonder Pack,” I blurted, almost slipping up before correcting myself hastily. I mentally kicked myself. That was a terrible cover-up.
The Alpha raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. “Mafian Wonder Pack? I’ve never heard of it before. Must be far away, huh?”
“Yes,” I nodded quickly, relief washing over me as he seemed to accept my excuse, at least for now.
His eyes lingered on me, specifically my hair. “And that hair of yours, does that run in the family?”
“Yes,” I replied cautiously, unsure of where this conversation was heading.
“Well, it doesn’t matter. We’re a welcoming pack. We don’t judge anyone,” he said, emphasizing the word “anyone” like he expected me to understand some hidden meaning. I didn’t.
He continued, “You can stay here for three more days. After that, either you find your family or you’re on your own. That’s the best I can do for you.”
My eyes lit up. “Thank you… my lord,” I said gratefully. I didn’t know his name, but back in my old pack, addressing the Alpha as “my lord” or “master” was common, especially in Brian’s pack.
The Alpha smiled faintly. “It’s Alpha Alexander, in case you were wondering,” he corrected.
Despite his tough exterior, Alpha Alexander was surprisingly kind, or at least not as cold as I had initially thought. I nodded in appreciation, grateful to have a place to stay for a few days, even if it was temporary.
“By the way,” Alpha Alexander said, his expression softening. “Apologies for the way things played out earlier. The knockout was unnecessary. Aiden was supposed to follow orders but acted on his own. He’s been dealt with.”
I blinked in surprise. So it was Aiden? That explained his remorseful looks earlier. I nodded, accepting the explanation.
“Good. If there’s nothing else, I’ll leave you to rest. The pack nurse will check on you later. For now, this room is yours until you leave.”
“Wait!” I blurted out, remembering something important. “There’s something I need to know. The girl, Emily… before I was knocked out, where was she? What did you do to her?”
Guilt washed over me. Poor Emily. I had promised to protect her, and now she was missing. Tears pricked my eyes as I felt utterly useless.
But before I could say anything else, I spotted her, standing right behind Alpha Alexander, looking smug and completely unharmed.
“Oh, I almost forgot,” Alpha Alexander chuckled. “Meet Emily, my other sister. She must’ve found you during one of her hunting practice sessions.”
Everything clicked into place. Emily wasn’t lost. She wasn’t scared. She wasn’t defenceless. I had been a fool. I had been the one without home, I was the one who needed help. Everything for her has been training.
I stared at her, dumbfounded, as she grinned back at me with that same smug, taunting look. The helpless girl I thought I was saving had played me like a fool.
I stared in stark horror at the grinning Emily, the defenceless, shy and lost girl I met in the woods. She stood beside her brother, looking like the demoness of hell just like her little sister Emma, both girls were evil,
My mouth hung open in disbelief. as I refused to admit the hard truth staring right to my face. I have been played by a fifteen-year-old girl!!.
