Chapter 50
Ariel
Liora glared at me with pouted lips when I told her that I’d be out of the house for a few hours. When Dmitri and I were done discussing in the garden, we returned to the living room to find Fedor, Irina and the cook, Alina, glued to her stories.
She was the true definition of a chatterbox and I wondered how long she’d been wanting to break free from her shell and share her ideas to everyone.
It was that way till today, but now she’d gotten upset that I wouldn’t be with her.
“Don’t go anywhere, mummy,” She pressed.
My eyes darted to Dmitri who also dressed to go out with me for help, but he looked away, silently informing me that I was alone in this.
Guilia was still stuck in her room and since I was to travel in two days, Dmitri found no need for her to travel back to Chicago alone.
“It won’t take time, Liora, I promise. I just have to go out. Help me out here, Dmitri,” I thundered.
He shrugged and approached Liora whom he hoisted onto his arms. “What’s the problem, baby? Mama won’t take long and we’ll get you a lot of sweets,” He assured her.
“I’m scared that she’ll get hurt,” She replied.
Dmitri and I glanced at each other while I patted her head. “I won’t get hurt. No one will hurt me as long as your daddy is with me,”
After making numerous promises that we would return safely, she finally allowed us to leave.
“Liora is such a drama queen,” I commented immediately we settled into the car.
Dmitri chose to be the chauffeur for the day and I couldn’t help but think that he was doing everything possible to be close to me at all times.
The car rode slowly to the convenience store. A painful nudge had already began in my abdominal region, reminding me that my period was near.
I hoped that it would skip some days as I had a lot of things piled up.
The abrupt halt of the car jeered me away from my train of thoughts. “What’s wrong?” I questioned.
“Someone bumped into my car,” He quickly unbuckled his seat belt and jumped out.
We had already gotten to the convenience store so I picked up my bag and sent him a text of my whereabout, and then I strode into the store.
I headed straight to the women’s section and scanned the items on the counter in search of the brand I wanted. A few frustrated hisses flew past my lips as the menstrual pad I wanted became hard to find.
Since my puberty, I’d only used one brand and being forced to use another one for the lack of it was annoying.
After letting out another sigh, I finally settled for another brand and picked up a few items I would be needing. Upon turning around to leave, I felt a strong painful grip on my arm and two words that made my skin crawl.
“Don’t move,”
The voice wasn’t just manly and authoritative, it was quite intimidating and my body trembled with an overwhelming urge to scream.
However, I didn’t act on it. Predators were known to act on the fear of their preys. If only I could find a way to alert the sales reps of my situation.
“My husband is outside and he’s quite dangerous. It won’t be funny if he finds you pulling this stunt with me,” I warned, ensuring that my tone was firm and assertive.
I was the wife of a Capo and I had to act it even though I was on the verge of being killed.
He scoffed and leaned closer to me, causing our bodies to meet while I shut my eyes and clenched my fists at the awkward contact. Even without seeing his face, I could tell he was a different kind of monster that had no idea about honor.
“You should be more worried about leaving this place alive, you slut!” He snarled.
Slut?
My knees buckled and I suddenly became nauseous. There was only one person who hated me so much to the extent of planning this: Margaret.
She was a bitch and I made a grave mistake by underestimating her hatred for me.
“I’m not a slut, and you’ll let me go this minute,” I demanded fearlessly and he chuckled darkly, shoving me toward the direction of the convenience room.
Another tremor worked through me as I gasped in trepidation. If he succeeded in getting me in there, then my chances of coming out alive would be very low.
My lips parted in a bid to scream but I felt the sharp edge of a metal on my neck. Screaming was definitely not an option. I froze, running out of options.
A crazy idea popped into my mind and I blurted my thought out without thinking. “Umm, what’s your name? I know someone sent you to do this but if you let me go right now, I’ll double whatever you were given,” The words hurried out of my mouth.
“I’m loyal to my client. I can’t betray her,” He whispered, his voice dreary and intense while he continued dragging me to the rest room.
“Wow,” I murmured under my breath.
Scratch my idea of him being disloyal and having no honor.
A tear slid down my cheek and I prayed that Dmitri would sense that something was wrong. I hoped that he’d ignore the second text I’d sent, encouraging him to forget about me and head to work.
“Oh God,” I muttered just as we got to the door.
Just before he shoved me in, I heard a growl and then a yelp of pain. The grip around my arm loosened and when I turned around, I found a furious Dmitri punching my kidnapper angrily.
My feet were glued to the floor as I watched him cause a bloody mess on his body. The sales rep was already making calls out of panic and instinctively, I knew it was the cops.
“Please stop, Dmitri,” I begged.
He ignored me, his attention solely on the man below him. “How dare you hurt my wife?” He barked, increasing the intensity of his assault.
I couldn’t help it any longer so I threw myself at him. “Please, stop,” I yelled.
He calmed instantly and slowly moved away from him, but his eyes continued to send furious glares to him. There was no doubt that he’d do something cruel to him later and I didn’t mind because he deserved it.
“Dmitri,” I muttered and he cast me a worried glance.
“Are you alright?” His eyes scrutinize my body meticulously.
I nodded and threw my arms around him. “It would have been worse if you didn’t come. Thank you for saving me,” My body shuddered involuntarily.
“I know who did this and trust me, I’ll make sure that it never happens again,” He promised.
“He mentioned a her,” I informed him with a shaky voice.
