Chapter 44
Dmitri
“Vladimir!” I roared as adrenaline mixed with anger surged through me while I inputted his passcode and burst the door open, making my way into the room.
My voice reechoed in the dark living room and I turned on the light to find different clothes akin to female wears littered on the floor.
I guessed that those clothes were torn off in the heat of passion and the words that Ariel had said concerning my brother and Guilia replayed in my head again.
I’d never been so mad at him as I was right now, and that rage spurred me to march all the way to his room until I was almost smashing his door down.
“I don’t care what you’re doing right now, but you’d better get out right now before I completely lose it and spoil your fun,” I never had to employ my Capo tone when speaking to him because he was always respectful, but presently, he was pushing my buttons so hard.
Hisses flew around inside the room but I didn’t care. A few seconds later, two ladies trotted out, their faces pale in embarrassment.
They covered themselves with the bedsheet and duvet respectively while they avoided my gaze, muttering words they were careful to keep me from hearing.
Vladimir appeared by the doorway later on with a huge scowl of disapproval on his face; his briefs doing nothing to hide how aroused he still was.
“I’ll have to change those codes soon,” He whined, brushing past me as he steered toward the living room. “Why do you have to be such a party pooper though? I know you haven’t had ‘some’ for a while, but does it mean you should interfere with mine? I’m not the one who asked you to marry an inexperienced woman. It’s not like father was alive to make you do things against your will,”
“You will keep shut right now, Vladimir!” I barked out a growl, trailing behind him briskly.
The girls had disappeared before I could get to the last stair which gave me some satisfaction.
“Do you know how pretentious you are? You make fun of me marrying an inexperienced woman, but what are you doing with her friend? Trying to play your adventurous games with a naive girl?”
He whipped me a stoic glance and folded his arms. “That’s none of your business, Dmitri,” He retorted.
“Of course, it is my business. Don’t give me that bullshit. Have you forgotten who her father is?”
He shrugged, “Some underboss? What’s he going to do?” His tone was so nonchalant I wanted to strangle his neck.
“Some underboss?” I imitated his tone and chuckled darkly. “We need the Familia as much as they need us so don’t give me that bullshit. The alliance is the reason the Outfit isn’t sending any attack against us, have you forgotten? You know we aren’t as formidable as before so why the fuck are you trying to frustrate my efforts, huh?” I lamented.
His expression turned somber and then he turned to the wine cellar, bringing out a bottle of Buckanan’s scotch whiskey and two shot glasses.
“I’m sorry,” He muttered remorsefully and crashed on the couch, pouring the whiskey into the glasses.
Somehow, his sincere apology cleared the rage that was threatening to take control of me. I wasn’t going to hurt him even though he had the knack of getting on my nerves sometimes.
“Why did you have to kiss her twice?” My voice softened.
He froze and dropped the bottle on the glass center table. Then he sighed and served me the drink. “Your wife had to be specific, huh,” He chuckled. “I wonder how many other things she told you,”
“That’s not the point right now, Vladimir,” I reminded him.
He downed the whiskey in one gulp and dropped the glass noisily on the table. “I couldn’t help it,” He admitted, his voice sincere and slightly vulnerable.
And a thought struck me instantly. “Are you falling in love with her?” I questioned almost immediately.
He flashed me a puzzled look. “What has love gotta do with this?” Irritation rang hard in his voice.
“Everything. Why are you toying with her feelings if you don’t feel anything for her?”
“I don’t want to explain anything to you, Dmitri. Whatever happens between the both of us stays with us,” He replied sharply and poured out another drink.
Feeling slightly annoyed, I snatched his drink and gobbled it before he could drink it. “Well, nothing is going to happen between the both of you again because she’ll be returning to Chicago in two days and I hope she gets married without you touching her,”
His fingers clenched so tightly around the small glass I thought he’d crush it. My lips nearly broke into a smile but I held it back and watched him digest the news.
“Get married, huh?” He tried to sound nonchalant, but his taut body betrayed him.
“Have you forgotten that it’s a possibility, or do you think she’ll stay single and pine away for you for the rest of her life? You have the chance to make things right if you meet her dad and make your intentions known to him,” I suggested, willing to help him not to fall into the hollow pit of pain that he was about to plunge himself into.
I knew what it meant to be without the woman you loved and I didn’t want him to experience the same thing.
“There’s no need for that. Guilia is pure and sweet, she doesn’t deserve to end up with someone like me,” He disagreed, his eyes blaring with sadness.
A worried sigh worked past my throat and I stared at him with concern. “Don’t say such things about yourself, Vlad. I know that we are both monsters and sometimes we allow the demons in us to take the lead, but there’s a woman out there for every one of us who can be the light in our dark tunnel. Maybe Guilia is that woman,”
“And is Ariel that woman for you?”
My chest tightened at his question and I went to the whiskey for help in evading his question.
“I thought as much,” He got to his feet slowly. “Take me to Mr Thomas, I want to meet his daughter,”
My brows climbed my forehead in confusion. “What for?”
“I’m getting married to her,” The words left his mouth swiftly as he fixed me an icy stare.
