Chapter 11
Dmitri
‘A group of men stormed into the house and started shooting. Liora was attacked,’
That was the only statement that kept resonating in my head as I drove recklessly along the streets of Chicago to Wrigley Field where a helicopter was supposed to be waiting for me.
I didn’t care about the traffic rules that I’d broken because my father-in-law would take care of them. My plans were very simple to execute; first, I had to ensure that Liora was still alive then I’d ram my favorite knife into the balls of the motherfuckers who thought that hurting my daughter was the way to get to me.
“Please, slow down, Dmitri. I’m about to puke,” Ariel’s scared voice tore through my reverie, and then I remembered that I had a woman with me.
Not just any woman, my wife.
Even though I didn’t like her, this wasn’t the best way to enjoy our wedding night. It wasn’t that important to me because I’d rather stay in my garage and smoke some sticks, but for her it was different.
Women attached a lot of emotions to their wedding night.
“I don’t have plans of doing that so you have to hang on,” I replied curtly.
She scoffed. “Need I remind you that I’m not a Mafiaso like you guys? I haven’t eaten anything since morning and it’s already getting late. If you go any faster than this I might collapse,” She whined and without thinking, I pressed the brake of the car, pulling the car to an abrupt halt.
Her bickering was beginning to get on my nerves.
“Now listen to me, young lady, someone very dear to my heart is in danger and I have to protect her. Your constant complaints are driving me nuts so keep quiet and allow me to concentrate. Do you hear me?” I barked through my mask.
At this point, I contemplated taking it off so I could enjoy the fresh air, but I wasn’t ready for her to see my face yet. My face was one part of my body that spiked a lot of insecurities within me.
She rolled her eyes and clicked her tongue nonchalantly. “I warned you not to go ahead with this marriage so you’d better not complain because I’m going to grate your nerves,” She smirked confidently.
I dragged in a deep breath and shut my eyes for a split second. I was constantly praised for having a very strong control over my temper and it would be very embarrassing to allow her to spoil that track record.
Ignoring her fierce gaze, I revved the engine to life and continued driving. A call came in and I tapped my earpod.
“Is she in the safe room?”
