After hanging up the phone, I looked into Everett’s eyes.
A flicker of weakness flashed between his eyes, and he blushed badly for a moment before saying, “She’s talking nonsense, it’s impossible.”
I didn’t say anything, stood up and started to get dressed.
He took my hand in his, “Don’t believe her, she can’t be pregnant!”
I flicked him away, my voice tired, “It’s always going to work out, there’s no use talking about it.”
Despite the calm face, my hands were shaking and my heart was pounding.
For a month, I thought we were back in the past. I was complacent and hopeful, even taking my medication more aggressively.
I want to make the best of the remaining months with Everett.
I thought I would never have to deal with any of this again and thought the days would go on. But the news of Juliana’s sudden pregnancy was like a needle that pierced the colorful bubble of my fantasy.
It’s been a good month, but it’s really all just an illusion …
It’s my self-defeating scam that’s kinda pointless.
Everett was going to stop me from going to Juliana, but I was already out the door.
I took Juliana to the hospital.
Along the way, she begged me to meet Everett.
The little girl was in tears, her face pale and accusing: “Obviously said that he was interested in me, obviously took me to eat delicious food, play fun, why suddenly do not contact me? He said I was the most different girl he had ever seen, but also said that there is time to divorce, to marry me. Is it … Could it all be a lie? I must see him and hear him tell me to my face!”
I can’t tell you what I felt in my heart. Her words lightly smashed a big hole in my heart.
It was a while before I heard my own hoarse voice, “I told you not to put your heart into it.”
Juliana looks at me while wiping her tears, “Why aren’t you angry, is it because you don’t love him? Then can you let me have him, there’s no more feelings between you two anyway, but I can’t lose him …”
I shook my head, “No, I love him very much. I can’t give him up to you, he’s not a toy, he has his own choices.”
My Gu Everett, who broke his knees to marry me in the first place. I’m in no position to give him away. I’m going to let him make his own choice.
Juliana looked desperate and wept silently, perhaps thinking that she had no chance of winning against an emotionally stable me.
After a moment’s thought, I added, “But you still have a chance. I’m dying.”
When I got to the hospital, I found Jasper and arranged for Juliana to be given an expedited exam.
Up until the results came back, I was reassuring myself that maybe this was a ploy by Juliana, or maybe she wasn’t pregnant at all.
Jasper glared at me with hatred, the anger under his eyes masked.
I covered my stomach and said nothing.
It wasn’t long before the nurse delivered the news that Juliana was definitely pregnant, by a month and a half.
I closed my eyes.
There was a sudden rush of footsteps and Everett’s icy voice sounded behind her, “Isadora, how badly do you want to come to see Jasper for something like this? I told you she couldn’t be pregnant, and you don’t believe me, you believe him?”
At this point, he’s still lying to me.
My hands clenched into fists, desperately trying to suppress my emotions, but the disappointment and resentment in my heart was still like a shock wave sweeping me away.
I don’t understand why fate tortured me so much, gave me a perfect Everett and then made him betray me, made me hopeful for life and then gave me stomach cancer, why do good things always have to be accompanied by bad things, why is it so hard for me to live my life normally, happily, and healthily, just like everyone else?
Jasper glanced at me and couldn’t hold back any longer as he yelled at Everett, “What do you mean it’s impossible, the results are in and you’re saying it’s impossible? Everett, I’m telling you, Juliana is pregnant and so is your wife …”
“Stop it.” At the crucial moment, I took Jasper’s hand to stop his words.
A hot line of sight landed on the back of my hand.
Behind her, Everett grunted and said in a cool voice, “Since Juliana’s pregnant, it’s a good idea to have the baby. Isadora hasn’t gotten pregnant after all these years of marriage anyway.”
“BANG!” Jasper broke away from me and took an arrow step forward, punching Everett in the face!
I was alarmed and rushed over to pull him back, but Everett wasn’t having any of it and fought back.
I was thrown to the side with a sudden cramp in my stomach, followed by a cold sweat on my back, and my whole body shook.
I fainted as my legs gave out under me.
