Book 1: Chapter 35 – Hurt By His Rejection

Book:The Temptation Series Published:2024-11-6

“So beautiful!” Cara distinctly heard the soft murmur that escaped his lips as he cupped her brea*ts, making her face heat up and sending shivers down her spine. With one hand holding her neck and the other kneading her brea*t, he leaned forward and crashed his lips to hers. Different than the previous one, this kiss was much more passionate and intimate as Marcus didn’t hold back anymore. When he softly bit her lower lip, a small gasp escaped her, allowing him to use the chance to shove his tongue into her sweet mouth.
With their tongues dancing against one another, the e*otic and fervid kiss felt so incredible that a moan escaped Cara’s mouth and she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back. It encouraged him to pull her closer, crushing her against his own hard chest. Soon the kiss turned fierce while she stroked his neck with her soft fingers, encouraging him to continue. He laid her gently on the lounger and nestled between her legs, their mouths still fused together.
Finally, he released her, breathing hard as he stared at her swollen lips with longing. Cara gazed back at him, her fingers still stroking his neck. It was such a soothing yet sensual touch that Marcus could feel his organ transform into an iron rod of need. Groaning softly, he pressed his ere*tion to her skin, grinding into her with a need so intense that he felt himself being morphed into a dominant caveman. Although he had slept with innumerable women before, no one had the power to arouse him to this extent as Cara did. It was strange since she was the most inexperienced and innocent of the entire lot. He had expected her to fight his advances but to his surprise, she inhaled sharply and writhed beneath him, making him desperate for a taste of her sweet, ripe body. His mouth found her brea*t and he claimed them one by one, teasing them to hardness while his fingers continued to knead them.
Cara arched her body, her fingers fisting into his hair. She loved him so much that she was lost in the pleasure that his touch invoked. “Marcus,” she exhaled in a breathy whisper that made him throb with a need so acute that his organ twitched with life, ready to plunge deep inside her. Marcus squeezed his eyes shut at the pure torture. “Don’t stop, please!” Her clear, innocent voice brought him back to his senses. He couldn’t help the guilt that started forming in his head. Was he taking advantage of her? He released her slowly but she pulled him closer, refusing to let go. He knew that the attraction between them was wrong. He was too old for her! She was a virgin, a pure and a simple soul and he had no business taking advantage of her.
Releasing her, he gave her a tortured look. “You’re too young for all this, for a guy like me. This should never have happened, Cara. Let’s keep this professional between us.” Cara looked hurt as she picked up the stole and covered herself, lowering her eyes with shame.
“I’m sorry,” she mumbled incoherently. Her heart shattered at his words. She knew that she was inexperienced, unlike the women he usually entertained. Maybe she couldn’t please him the way they did.
“That’s alright. I was just trying to get rid of your shyness.” Marcus lied in his self-defense. Seeing the heartbroken expression on her face, he wanted to pull her into his arms and tell her how much he wanted her. Instead, he just sighed and walked up to his canvas to sketch a dejected and heartbroken portrait of her. Maybe he would start his series with this and proceed towards a happy note. It was better he stayed away from Cara if he wanted to get any work done. He was eight years older and didn’t want to pollute her mind and body.
Cara didn’t know how to pose. She just sat like a statue looking out of the enormous floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors. Marcus’s words rang in her head and she chided herself for not comprehending it sooner. Was it really a planned move just to get rid of her shyness? Did it not mean anything to him at all? Did he not enjoy her kiss even the slightest bit? Her unfocused eyes stared at the swaying trees and chirping birds enjoying the warm, bright day without a worry in the world. They were so free! Why couldn’t she be like them?
She couldn’t look in Marcus’s direction, the rejection hurt her so much that she didn’t want to break down in front of him. He was right actually. They should keep things professional between them. This was a professional scenario with no place for emotions. She didn’t come here to have a relationship with Marcus Donnelly. He was still her employer.
“You can take a break!” said Marcus after what seemed like hours. Cara’s back was stiff from sitting in the same position for so long. She got up and walked towards the washroom to wear her clothes. Later she went to the kitchen to grab a bottle of water. Marcus was busy making coffee for himself, so she didn’t stay longer in the kitchen. She walked over to her room to rest her back.
Marcus sighed seeing her walk dejectedly away. He wanted to hold her and apologize and take back the words he said to her but something held him at bay. He couldn’t be anything in between with her. He could have a full-blown, no strings attached whirlwind of an affair with her or nothing at all. He was a passionate man and couldn’t keep his urges under control around her. The little kisses couldn’t pacify him anymore. He wanted to embed himself deep inside her whenever he felt like it. He wanted to escape into heaven with only the two of them together and lots of no-strings attached s*x. But was she ready for it? Sighing, he sipped his coffee and walked over to his studio. Cara wasn’t there and he just sat scrutinizing the sketch he had done of her. He was amazed at the natural expression he was able to capture in the portrait. In fact, it looked like a perfect piece to start his series with. A shattered and heartbroken girl!
He started to fill colors not needing Cara’s presence at all. Every detail of her face and body was etched in his heart and mind forever. He was so absorbed that he lost track of time completely. It was 4 o’clock in the afternoon when he wrapped up for the day and glanced at the clock. He gasped with shock remembering that he had promised Cara to get her admitted to Suffolk College today after lunch. But where was she? He rushed out of the studio to go in search of her. She was in her room, arranging her stuff. He realized that she might have cleared everything from his bedroom and permanently shifted into hers. There was no hope now. She would never agree to sleep with him again.
Marcus sighed and walked into her room. “Give me your details, I’ll apply online.” Cara looked startled at his sudden appearance in her room.
“I’ll serve your lunch,” she said, ignoring his offer.
Marcus looked baffled at her lack of response. “I’m sorry, I got busy.”
“It’s okay, you don’t need to get me admitted. You’re already paying me for the work. I don’t want to take advantage of your kindness, Mr. Donnelly.” She walked out of the room towards the kitchen, leaving a baffled Marcus standing and staring at her retreating back. What just happened? Did he hear her correctly? So were they back to where they had started? Sighing, he followed her to the dining room and sat waiting for his lunch. She served him his food and walked away.
“Where’s yours?” he asked with concern.
“I’ve eaten,” lied Cara, walking back to her room. Marcus ate quietly but he knew that this couldn’t go on. He had to sort this out if he was planning to spend at least six months in her company. The paintings would take that long and he just couldn’t let her desert him before that. After lunch, he picked up his laptop and went back to Cara’s room, his face looking more determined than before.
“Get your documents, we need to complete the college admission formalities, online.” He sat down at her desk and started the laptop ignoring her jaw-dropped stare. “I don’t have all day, Cara. I don’t have a habit of breaking promises. The art series will take at least six months to a year and I don’t want you to waste that time just posing for a few paintings. Get yourself an education while you’re getting the opportunity.”
Cara was stunned by his speech. “One year?” she repeated with wide eyes. She hadn’t thought that she would have to stay here that long. How would she survive that long with him under one roof?
“Yes. What did you think? One month?” he smiled as he typed.
Cara handed him the documents he needed and sat down beside him, watching him fill out the application form. Once submitted, he turned towards her, his eyes dark with myriad emotions reflected in them.
“Thank you, Mr. Donnelly,” she said, walking towards the door. Marcus scoffed with anger and followed her out.
“I thought we were already over this, Cara,” he seethed with anger and frustration. She whirled around and stared directly into his eyes.
“You want us to be professional, don’t you? I know my position. I promise I shall never cross it,” she said, ready to walk away.
Marcus lost his composure and caught her arm. “F*ck you,” he muttered angrily as he whirled her around to face him. Gripping her head firmly he smashed his lips to hers again for the second time in the day!
