Her gaze, filled with a mixture of frustration and exasperation, met mine.
“I have Maddox’s fingerprints, Selena. With that, I can gain access to anything he can.” Her response held a note of resignation as if she had grown weary of my persistent inquiries. “But do your best to avoid such predicaments. Sometimes, I may not be able to come to your aid, and it can cost you your life,” she cautioned, casting a disdainful glance my way.
“I have no desire to meet my end in such a way,” I murmured amusingly.
Not before I fulfill my purpose!
“Have you finished the work?” Emile inquired, her voice laced with impatience as her gaze fixed on me.
“Not today. It’s not such an easy task. Otherwise, your boss wouldn’t have entrusted it to the best hacker,” I retorted with a smirk, hinting at the high risk involved in the mission.
Emile rolled her eyes in response.
“Get it done quickly, Selena, and get out of this pack before anyone finds out. You’ve already wasted too much time,” she commanded, exuding authority.
I found her authority quite amusing. Although she wasn’t the one paying me for this job, it was her boss.
“Sure thing,” I replied, maintaining a friendly smile.
“Now, swiftly make your way to your Omega quarter before anyone catches sight of you,” she ordered once more, causing me to roll my eyes inwardly.
Emile wasn’t someone I would willingly obey; I merely played along, letting her believe that I followed every command. With a nod and a smile, I pretended to comply.
I watched as she turned and retreated toward her own room.
Today had been a whirlwind of drama, leaving my nerves frazzled and in desperate need of something to calm them down. With that in mind, I stealthily made my way toward Zander’s private bar. I knew he wouldn’t be around until morning, giving me ample time to indulge in a few drinks, just like I had done countless times before, without him ever finding out.
The dimly lit room greeted me with its cozy atmosphere as I stepped inside. Rows of gleaming bottles adorned the shelves, tempting me with their intoxicating contents. The scent of aged whiskey and spiced rum filled the air, instantly soothing my senses.
No one was allowed to enter his private bar, a testament to his self-centered nature.
Such a conceited jerk he was!
I approached the mahogany bar, running my fingers along its smooth surface, and surveyed the assortment of beverages. From top-shelf spirits to artisanal cocktails, the choices were plentiful. Tonight, I craved the deep warmth of a smoky scotch, its amber liquid swirling gently in a crystal tumbler. I reached for the bottle, the weight of it comforting in my hands.
As I poured the rich, caramel-colored liquid into the glass, the sound of it hitting the surface echoed softly in the room. The aroma enveloped me, evoking a sense of sophistication and rebellion. It was my secret indulgence, my personal escape from the chaos that constantly engulfed my life.
Raising the glass to my lips, I took a slow sip, savoring the smooth, smoky flavor as it danced across my tongue. The warmth spread through my body, easing the tension and loosening the knots that had formed within me. Each sip brought me closer to a state of calm, a respite from the storm that raged both within and outside these walls.
Lost in the moment, I allowed myself to forget the troubles that plagued me, if only for a little while. The world outside ceased to exist as I became immersed in the solace of the bar, cocooned in its ambiance. For a brief moment, I had found the calmness I so desperately sought.
“The Alpha King, my ass!” I snorted, staring at the amber-filled glass before me. “His arrogance will be his downfall, and he’ll pay for every sin he’s committed,” I whispered into the silence of the room.
In the intoxicating embrace of alcohol, I wanted to curse him further, to unleash all my pent-up frustration after the betrayal of my ex-mate. But the words refused to form in my mind, leaving me groaning in sheer frustration.
“What the hell! I can’t even curse you in your own pack! What kind of magic have you woven here?” I exclaimed, feeling a desperate desire welling up inside me.
I had to escape this bizarre pack as soon as possible. I needed to run far away from the clutches of the murderous Alpha King before he discovered my plans.
