OLIVIA
“Are you practically snubbing me now, or I’m beginning to imagine things?” I pulled Kate over to my side.
“What’s this about?
Whose side are you on, Kate?”
“What do you want me to say about this? My opinion doesn’t matter, does it?
If you thought I was going to support you on this, then you were mistaken. Sorry to burst your bubbles, but I don’t support evil. I wasn’t raised that way. To answer your question, I’m on the side of truth. I guess you’re happy now, aren’t you?” Kate answered. I didn’t consider it a response because she was rude to me.
“And what Is the truth? Come back here and finish the mess you created for yourself. I’m not done talking to you.
You only leave when I say so,” I stood in front of Kate just as she was about to leave. She kept running away from my questions, making me look like a fool.
“What exactly do you want from me? I still don’t get it. Since you are so desperate to hear me speak, I will do you a favor by satisfying your curiosity.
Ma’am, this is your husband we are talking about here. Regardless of what he did to you, Cyril still deserves some sympathy. He had blood running through his veins, just like everyone. What would the media do when they discovered that,” Kate advised me.
“Fuck the media!” I interrupted Kate. I was already making a move to listen to Kate’s advice until she found a way to drag the media into our conversation.
“Who gives a fuck about the media? What happens in my marriage has absolutely nothing to do with them. They should go to hell for all I care. Where were they when Cyril treated me like a piece of trash? Where were they when Cyril abandoned me in the hospital to cater for Rene?” I wept bitterly. I couldn’t endure my emotions anymore.
Kate was making me feel like a bad person when I was innocent. The only mistake I made was cheating on Cyril and hitting him with my car, which, of course, I regretted and wished would never happen again. Aside from those, Cyril has been the one hurting me repeatedly without remorse.
“I am sorry.” Kate apologizes. She held me closer to her boss.
“I guess I overreacted. I shouldn’t have said those words I said to you. I allowed my emotions to get the best of Me,” She added. I fell deaf ears to her apology because they never mattered to me.
“Fuck your apology.
All I demand from you right now is to book the next available flight to Singapore. I need the vacation more than ever,” I ordered Kate.
“But ma’am,” she protested.
“No, but.
I’m ordering you as your Boss. If you still love your Job, then you must obey me,” I added a bit of violence to compound her fears.
“Are you threatening to sack me? After everything we’ve been through together?” She pointed to her chest. She didn’t believe that I was going to say that to her.
“Threaten you?
No darling. I would never do that. Why do I stoop so low to do that? Kate, this is no threat. I meant every damn word I said and more,” I spoke to her face and frowned so she could understand what I was talking about.
“You are incredibly selfish,” Kate blasted me the moment I wanted to walk away.
Her words forced me to a halt, making me return to her in full rage.
“What did you just say? Please tell me this isn’t a joke?” I asked her again for clarification. I was preparing my fist, ready to punch her so hard in the face until she passed out.
“Yes, you heard me right. Your ears weren’t deceiving you. For clarity, I’m going to repeat this so you understand that I wasn’t kidding. You’re incredibly selfish. You only care about yourself. What happens to others doesn’t even matter to you,” she reaffirms with confidence.
I didn’t say anything.
I wasted no time punching her in the face.
I wished I had worn a ring. I wanted to see blood gushing from her nose to make her understand that I would forever be superior to her.
“You punched me In the face?” She caressed her bruised face and groaned in pain. She didn’t see the punch coming.
“Yes, I did.
I would do that a thousand times until you learn how to mind your damn business,” I admitted and owned up to my shit.
“How dare you?” She made an upraised arm to hit me back. Suddenly, she stopped and pulled her hand down
I don’t know what voice advised her to retreat from making such a decision, but I was glad she obeyed the voice. I had already prepared her sack letter inside of me If she had punched me.
“Why are you doing this? This isn’t you. What has Adrian done to you? A lot has changed about you since you got back from his house,” Kate bemoaned.
“Nothing is wrong with me. It’s you who’s acting weird. Where’s this sudden affection coming from? You don’t even like Cyril. For crying out loud, you detest him with everything you hold dear to yourself,” I schooled Kate. It’s funny how she’s the only one who noticed that I’ve changed when I don’t even feel anything.
“Did you hit him intentionally so he could die? Was that your plan? Are you gutted because your plan failed?” Kate was accused of yet another baseless assumption.
“Excuse me?” I got closer to Kate. I was prepared to strike her hard with another powerful punch that she wouldn’t survive when the doctor walked into us and ruined my plans.
“Did I interrupt anything?” Escobar asked. He observed the tension and knew something was wrong. He just couldn’t wrap his head around it. I was waiting for Kate to speak up and explain since she claims to know better than me in recent times. This was her moment to prove to me that she was a creative genius, and she was making it go down the drain.
