OLIVIA
We finally arrived home after the terrific experience with Cyril at the hospital. I don’t wish to experience such trauma ever again.
I was adamant about getting out of the car. Kate had already stepped out of the car while I was drowning in my pool of wretchedness. She was about to go inside the house when she noticed I wasn’t anywhere to be seen.
She made a U-turn, heading back to the car. “What’s wrong?
Why aren’t you out?”
“Don’t worry, I’m fine.” I lied. My facial expression could tell that something was eating me up.
How do I explain to Kate that I was still obsessed with Cyril? The incident that occurred at the hospital was still playing in my head like a movie. No matter how hard I try to ignore it, I still find myself dwelling in the past.
“And you expect me to believe that? Come on, is it about Cyril?” Kate asked me. She has worked with me to the extent that she now predicts my next move. Getting her to believe me won’t be easy.
“Yes, it’s Cyril,” I nodded my head in response. There was no point lying. Kate already found out about the truth.
“I knew it,” she snapped her fingers.
“Can we not talk about Cyril now? He’s bad news. We should be focused on your vacation to Singapore,” Kate advised me as though she were my mother.
“Right?” I rolled my eyes and brought out my phone. I didn’t know what I was doing.
“What the hell are you doing?
I hope it’s not what I’m thinking?” She scoffed.
I ignored her to focus on my phone. Before I could find my balance, Kate snatched the phone from me.
“No way!” She flared up.
“After what he made you go through at the hospital? Don’t you ever learn?” Kate berated me when she found out I was trying to call Cyril.
It’s been 2 hours since we left the hospital, and Cyril hasn’t called nor returned home and you don’t expect me to be worried? Sorry, to disappoint you; I’m not that cruel,” I retorted and retrieved my phone from Kate.
“I guess I just need to have a quick bath and head back to the office,” I said to Kate and got out of the car. She followed me immediately.
“Did I just hear you correctly?” Kate stood in front of me, opposing my decision. She was the weapon formed against me.
“I am not letting you do that. You need all the rest you can get. You were there when the doctor mentioned that you needed to rest, weren’t you?” Kate reminded me.
“Fuck the doctor.
To hell with him.
Who’s going to run my company when I’m at home?” I clapped back at Kate and made her silent. She couldn’t speak further.
As I was about to enter my room, Kate stopped me again. This time, I lost control of myself and was close to hitting her in the face. I had to control myself because of my condition. I was still in the recovery process.
“What do you want this time? The last time I checked, you got a roof over your head. Why bother me so much?” I yelled at Kate and felt something departing my body. I couldn’t tell what that was. My head was banging like the church bell.
“Ouch,” I caressed my head in pain and quietly sat down on the sofa.
“I told you,” Kate said quietly as she assisted me to my room.
“Hold on a sec,” she said and went away. She returned a moment later with a glass of warm water. She took out some of the medications that were prescribed by the doctor.
“This would make you feel better,” she handed them over to me and watched me take them with the glass of water.
“How do you feel now?” She asked me.
I sighed. “Slightly better,”
“Great! You need to rest now. I’ll be in the living room if you need me,” she took the glass of water and wanted to leave when I called her back to discuss my vacation to Singapore.
I knew it was the wrong time to discuss it. I just couldn’t wait to be far away from Cyril until I regained my sanity. I was slowly becoming a shadow of myself. I’m afraid that I will go insane if nothing is done.
“Not now, please.
Don’t force it. Singapore can wait. Currently, we need to work on your recovery,” Kate suggested. She wasn’t far from the truth. I was just too stubborn to admit.
“You win,” I finally concurred. For the first time in a while, I agreed with Kate. It was a tough decision to make, but I had no choice. My health was important to me.
Kate was right.
It would be difficult for me to run the company in this condition. As for Cyril, he would move on without me. If he could cheat on me while I’m still alive, he could do worse when I’m gone.
While Kate was away in the living room, I heard someone knocking at the door.
I glanced at the wall clock and realized it was just 7 am.
“Who could that be?’ I asked myself rhetorically knowing that I wasn’t expecting anyone. My mind narrowed down to Cyril until I remembered that he was my husband. He is entitled to come inside without having to knock.
In the mood of guessing, Kate showed up in my room looking so excited.
“Someone’s here to see you,” she disclosed.
“Who?
Please don’t make me guess. I’m not desiring this,” I smirked.
“It’s Adrian,” she smiled
“Adrian, who?
Sorry, I don’t know who that Is. I don’t want to see anyone. I just need all the rest I can get,” I hissed and faced the wall.
“It’s Signor’s Dante’s nephew. Remember him?” Kate finally hit the nail on the head.
At the mention of Dante, I tossed off the bed at full speed, “Where’s he now?” I forgot I was ill.
