Mireya planted a kiss on The Past Usher’s lips without a trace of shame, even though they weren’t alone. Garth was there, too, and he quickly lowered his head and closed his eyes as the sound of the kiss echoed.
Garth held his breath, suppressing the pain in his chest. He felt sorrow for the past Vione and all he could do was pray.
“I’m going home, Usher. I hope you won’t stay up too late.”
The Past Usher nodded. “Be careful on the way.”
“Of course.”
Mireya walked away, passing Garth who still had his head down. She clicked her tongue with a sneer, then let out a soft chuckle.
Mireya’s car left the palace at exactly eleven o’clock at night. It was already quite late, and to be honest, she was very tired. Her body felt completely exhausted, and if it hadn’t been for the incident in the palace dining room, she wouldn’t have gone home so late.
Mireya had to make sure that everything was still under control. So, she had spent the whole day following the former Usher. She accompanied him to the office and visited several places. As a result, it was only natural that she felt completely exhausted.
Despite her fatigue, the confusion that had filled Mireya’s mind all day couldn’t be dispelled. She often wondered, but there were no significant clues. So, she asked herself. Usher can’t possibly suspect me, can he?
This possibility seemed quite reasonable. So Mireya wasted no time in contacting Torin Arbuckle-her lover, who was the Alpha of the Nimbria Pack.
“I hope this is just unfounded fear, Torin,” Mireya said directly, without preamble, when the call was answered. She took a quick look around her house through the window before closing the curtains tightly. “But something strange happened this morning in the dining room of the Frostholm Pack’s Palace.” She told them everything that had happened, leaving out no details. Then she expressed her concern. “I’m afraid Usher is beginning to suspect me.”
“Impossible,” Torin interjected quickly. “How could he be suspicious of you? Didn’t you always give him the tea Willow made? Her potions have never failed.”
Mireya bit her lower lip. Torin’s words were indeed true. Willow, a witch who had long been imprisoned in the captivity house of the Nimbria Pack, was one of the few witches with great potion-making abilities. So far, no one had been able to escape from her magical potions.
Unfortunately, this fact made Mireya even more worried. “You’re right, Torin. No one has ever been able to escape the influence of Willow’s potions, but what happened earlier was really strange. I don’t know who lies between Usher and Vione. But something has happened, and if what they say about the tonic is true, then we have to be careful, Torin. We can’t take any risks. Our plan must not fail. We’ve come this far, and we must defeat the Frostholm Pack.”
“You are right, but we must not be reckless. That’s why I order you to check the surveillance camera footage there. If Vione’s statement is true, you will see Usher approaching her.”
Mireya nodded. “Alright. In that case, I will have to go back to the Frostholm Pack Palace tomorrow morning.”
The conversation ended and Mireya used the limited time to sleep. She needed to rest because she would return to the palace the next morning.
Mireya’s arrival was greeted with a smile from Usher. He hugged her and they chatted briefly before Usher left for the office. He said he just wanted to rest in Usher’s room.
Basically, the Alpha’s room was a restricted area. Not everyone could enter it. But thanks to the influence of the tea with the magic potion that Mireya often gave Usher, there were no more restrictions for her. She was free to do anything. She was free to go to any corner of The Palace and no one dared to stop her.
Mireya turned on the computer in Usher’s room, her eyes shining with determination. As the screen lit up, she quickly typed in the password she had memorized.
The main screen appeared, displaying various icons and neatly organized folders. Mireya searched for the icon that indicated the surveillance camera monitoring application. She clicked the icon twice, and moments later, the program opened.
The interface of the surveillance camera application appeared, showing several video feeds from various cameras in The Palace. Mireya took a deep breath as she realized that the next step was the most important: two-factor authentication, and she only had one chance to access it before the system sent an alert to the palace’s security control room.
The system requested biometric verification, and Mireya felt confident as she rubbed her eyes briefly, adjusting the position of the special contact lens with the projection of the fake retina she was using. Then she faced the retina scanner and opened her eyes wide.
The scanner light came on, examined the retinal pattern, and performed the verification process. Then a green light flashed on the scanner, indicating that the authentication was successful. The computer screen changed and Mireya gained full access to the palace surveillance system.
Mireya immediately searched for the surveillance footage she needed. Her focus was on the footage along the corridor leading to The Past Vione’s room. She carefully checked all the videos from two nights ago, but she found nothing. The Past Usher didn’t meet The Past Vione.
“Does that mean Vione is lying?” Mireya asked with a furrowed brow. Her face showed deep confusion. “If so, does that mean she’s the one who knows my plan?” The possibility made her pale. “But how could she know that?”
Mireya felt frustrated. The current situation made her restless. The worry that the long-planned plan of the Nimbria Pack might fail almost made it hard for her to breathe.
“No,” Mireya shook her head with a gasp. “I can’t take that risk. I can’t let Torin, Connor and the Nimbria Pack down.” Then her eyes turned sharp, her gaze showing unwavering determination. “I have to get rid of Vione at once.”
