All Cade could think about as they made their way back to the city was that he wanted to see Ophelia. Throughout his trip, they had not spoken except for the first night.
He has tried to reach out to her, but she was not interested and screened out all of his calls and messages without a reply. As soon as he landed at the airport, he called Diana to find out where Ophelia was since she was not taking his call.
His showing up at her workplace was a good thing for them. He needed to strengthen the fact that they were in love in case of anything. Harper has shown all kinds of behaviours for the rest of their stay during the trip.
“You can go home,” Cade said as they stood beside the car. A driver was here to take him home and he did not want Harper to be near him again.
“But I am supposed to be close to you so I can assist you,” she said, and he scrunched up his face before she added “Sir.”
“You must have had a long few days off, so just take the next four days off, and we will resume back to work on Monday,” Cade said.
He was going to try his best to get rid of her during the few days, but he needed her away first before he could do anything.
“But…” She began but was stopped by his hand in the air.
‘That would be all,” he said and turned to the door. She pulled open the door and he slid in. He sat straight without sparing her a glance and she closed the door gently.
She felt her heart break because somehow she had expected that things would be different for them now. Maybe she thought that they would at least act as friends.
She watched the car drive away until she was left standing there feeling all alone. She turned, and she was greeted by Frances, who just stood there silently with a smile on her face.
“What are you doing here?” Harper asks, clutching the handle of her bag tightly as she bit the insides of her cheeks.
“I am here to pick you up. I thought that Cade might be a jerk and not offer you a ride, and you are an important asset to us. I cannot let you be treated like trash.” Frances gestured to the man standing behind her and he stepped forward and took the bag from Harper and began rolling it away towards a car.
“All I hear is that you want me to help you do something,” Harper said, taking a step forward.
Frances smiled and turned to face the direction the man had left, and Harper stood by her side, and they began taking slow, coordinated steps.
“We have a plan; of course, there is always something to do.”
“Of course,” Harper said uninterestedly. She had so much confidence earlier that this was going to be a walk in the park for her, but somehow now she felt that this was going to be one of the most difficult things she had done.
“So Abigail wants to see you,” Frances said as they stood before the car. The man who had helped her with her bags opened the door, and Frances slid in before gesturing to Harper to do the same.
Harper swallowed the lump in her throat. No matter how hard it might be, she was going to do this because, at the end of the day, all she wanted was to be with Cade and nothing more.
“Can I at least have the day to rest? It was a long flight,” Harper murmured as she sat in the car.
“Of course,” Frances nodded, and they drove away after a while.
“I don’t live in this neighbourhood; this is the way to Cade’s house,” Harper commented as they got onto an unfamiliar road. “I thought you were taking me home.” She asked, turning to Frances, who sat there.
“You’ll see,” Frances replied, and then took out her phone and began tapping on it.
Frances could not believe she was roped into all of this; she was only doing this because she knew what it was like not to have the upper hand on anything. She did not want her children to have to be at the mercy of Cade. Their father should be chairman, so when she had children, they were automatically the heirs and did not need to start fighting their cousins for it. She was doing this for their future anyway.
They pulled up at a small house at the edge of the road. Compared to everything else there, that house looked like something that was pulled from a children’s book. Frances urged that they come down and look around; they got down, and Harper looked around with a long sigh.
“What is this?” she asked, turning to Frances and folding her hand across her body. “I asked you to take me home, and you brought me here to show off your building.” She added with an annoyed tone. “I cannot believe it. Do I really look like I have the time to be?”
A key dangling in her face stopped her from saying what she was saying as the thoughts derailed off her mind. “What is this?” Harper looked up at the key.
“The key to that house,” Frances said with a shrug like it was really not a big deal.
“And why are you showing me this?” she followed up.,
“Abigail did not like where you lived, and we all think that moving into the same estate as Cade might help you achieve your goal faster, so she is lending you this house until you move in with Cade.” Harper had lost a bit of energy, but this cheered her up somehow.
“So you guys want me to live here?” Harper asked, snatching the key from her.
“It is all yours.”
