Nicholas POV
“Nooo” I yelled, fear engulfing me totally as I saw Monica slowly crash on the ground. I quickly went to her side and lifted her head from the ground “Monica” I called out but there wasn’t any response.
My hands began to tremble as I saw blood on my hands “Anthony” I yelled, tears gathering in my eyes as Monica suddenly became still in my thigh
“Shit” Anthony cursed the moment he saw Monica’s body on the floor
“Call the ambulance now” I ordered, unable to control my trembling hands “Monica please stay with me, stay with me” I placed her head on my chest as I whispered in her ears.
“Monica, honey please open your eyes,” I said, holding her lifeless hands which were already stained with blood as I walked alongside the gurney that was used to take her inside the hospital.
“Please help her please,” I said desperately, her unmoving body sending chills down my spine.
I can’t imagine a life without Monica. I can’t live without her and I don’t know what I will do if she dies.
“Sir please you can’t go in. This is a restricted area” the nurse said, stretching her hands sideways to prevent me from following the gurney.
I tried moving past the male nurse who seemed adamant about making sure I didn’t follow Monica “Please my wife, I have to be by her side” I said, my eyes on the gurney which was already far from where I stood.
“Nicholas Nicholas,” Anthony said, standing at my front and holding me in place “You have to calm down,” Anthony said, his soft sad gaze fixed on me.
“This is all my fault. I shouldn’t have taken her to the mall yesterday. I should have agreed to Greg’s demand. I should have given him the company” I said, tears spilling down my cheeks as I felt a heart-wrenching pain
“Stop blaming yourself, Nicholas. An accident happened and this was just an accident” Anthony said but his words didn’t make me feel any better.
I pushed Anthony off me and went to take a seat, praying fervently in my heart that Monica wouldn’t die. This was Greg’s fault. How dare he try to kill my wife?
“Where is that bastard,” I asked Anthony, my voice sharp as my hands trembled by my side.
“Bastard? Who are you talking about?” Anthony asked, confusion etched on his face.
“Greg” I replied.
“At the cops station,” he responded and I instantly started walking to the door of the hall, intending to go to the station.
“Nicholas calm down” I heard Anthony’s voice behind me as soon as we got to the station.
I walked into the station, ignoring the cops at the front desk who tried to stop me from entering.
I barged into the first office is saw, pushing the door open and there sat Greg, sitting down with his legs folded.
“You bastard, how dare you” My blood boiled as I landed a punch on his face, causing him to fall hard on the ground.
“Nicholas that’s enough,” Anthony said, holding me back by my arms and stopping me from hitting Greg any further. “This is a station, Nicholas. You can be arrested for just barging in like that” Anthony said, his voice sharp but I stared murderously at Greg who wore a smirk.
“I don’t care. This bastard must pay for hurting Monica” I yelled, pointing at Greg who used his thumb to wipe off the blood from his torn lips
“you’re this pissed just because of two bullets?” Greg asked, smirking and glaring at me “You’re lucky Nicholas… I intended to decorate her body with bullets and not shoot her with just two bullets”
“Bastard” I yelled again as I pushed Anthony aside angrily and rushed to Greg furiously.
I raised my hand in the air and just as I was about to land it in his jaw, he dodged and gave me two punches on my stomach which made me stagger backwards twice.
“Nicholas, this is not the way to handle things,” Anthony said again, his voice laced with fear, but I didn’t spare him a glance.
“This monster has to die” I uttered, my gaze fixed on Greg, who rushed towards me again, and just as he was about to hit me on my face, I dodged swiftly and that made him crash hard on the floor.
Before he could get up, I turned him over and pounced on him. “This” punch “is” punch “for” punch “Monica” punch.
I was elated when I saw his disfigured face with blood oozing from his nose “Mr Sterling, that’s enough”. I heard someone yell behind me and my arms instantly dragged me up from Greg, who lay flat on the floor, groaning in pain.
“Don’t touch me” I uttered sharply, taking my arm off the two cops who held me back.
“Mr. Nicholas, Mr. Greg was in our custody, and you barged into the cops station forcefully to attack a suspect. That is a crime.”
“And what are you going to do about it? Sue me?” I said coldly, glaring at the cop who spoke.
Everyone knew who I was and a cop didn’t even stand a chance.
“With all due respect sir, what you did is wrong and there are punishments attached to your crime” the cop added.
“I’m not a criminal here. He is” I yelled, pointing at Greg who lay on the floor, groaning in pain.
Greg groaned in pain as he struggled to sit up, while still on the floor. “Make sure I don’t make it out of here alive, because if I do, I will make sure I finish her off” Greg warned, glaring daggers at me.
“I’ll kill you first,” I said, gritting my teeth furiously.
“How is she a doctor? Is my wife alive? Is she okay? Can I see her?” I asked, rising to my feet as I rushed to stand near the doctor who had just come out of the theater.
“She is safe now, Mr Nicholas. She lost consciousness before you brought her here but she is stable now and will wake up soon”. The doctor said,
I sighed in relief as I placed my hands on both sides of my waist. “That’s good to hear. Can I see her?” I asked urgently.
“No, you can’t. She needs lots of rest, especially now that her brain tumor has grown drastically and_”
“Brain tumor?” I asked, staring at the doctor in disbelief. “What do you mean by a brain tumor?” I asked, my voice trembling as my heart raced in fear over a secret I was about to uncover.
“Yes, Mr Nicholas. Mrs. Monica has a brain tumor and, from my calculations, she had just two weeks and some days to live”, the doctor replied, and the world suddenly went still.
