I sent Callum and Oscar off to make sure safe rooms were set up and ready to go for the night. We’d
agreed that everyone would be in safe houses and the hospital would be locked down from two hours
before sunset, and everyone would stay in those safe rooms until everything blows over, so probably
tomorrow.
The rest of the pack warriors were getting involved too, making sure that the safe houses were
stocked, and that they were ready to protect the borders. It was a big job… but I will admit that I had a
second motive to get Callum and Oscar to do it.
Yes, I trusted them to pull it off. But, I also needed them out of earshot so I could get everything
arranged with Jeremiah.
“Take a seat, Jeremiah,” I motioned when Oscar and Callum left. We’d even moved the other warrior
outside the office. This was need to know.
“Before I start, Jeremiah, I need to ask you a question.”
“Of course, my Queen. What do you need?”
“What I am about to tell you needs to be between you and I for now. Strictly need to know until
telling people becomes necessary.”
He nodded, his face a little confused.
“It is very possible that Callum or Oscar will attempt to command you to tell them this information.”
He nodded again. “Do you want to command me first so they can’t?”
I nodded, biting my lip.
“Of course, my Queen. I trust you.”
“Thank you, Jeremiah. What the command will essentially be is telling you that you cannot repeat
anything I am about to tell you until a specific time. The sun sets today at about 7. 20pm. About half
an hour before that, so we’ll say 6. 50pm, I’ll need you to give Callum and Oscar an envelope. That
envelope will contain everything they need to know. Once they have that envelope and have read the
contents, my command will lift and you can then repeat what I’ve said.”
He nodded, face understanding.
“The envelope cannot be opened until then, Jeremiah. That part is absolutely crucial. It cannot be
opened until that time.”
“You can command me on that too if you think the Kings will try to get it earlier, my Queen.”
I nodded. “Thank you. Are you ready? Everything from here cannot be repeated until after they have
read the contents of the envelope. I’ll try not to make it too uncomfortable for you, but it’s a big
command, Jeremiah, so I can’t guarantee the command will be comfortable. I am only going to give
you information you need though, just so you can do what I need you to do. Everything else Callum
and Oscar will need will be in the envelope.”
He nodded again. “I understand, my Queen.”
I gave him a small smile. “Let’s do this. As you know we’re going to have a confrontation with the
Rogue King, or Elijah Madden, as you likely know him. The whens and wheres will be in the
envelope, that isn’t something you need to worry about at this stage. As soon as Callum and Oscar
have the envelope, I need you to stick to them like glue. The plan from there will be their own, but I
need you plus a minimum of three warriors to follow them.”
I paused for a moment, chugging my rum.
“The key between now and then is about security. I need the border fully patrolled, it is very possible
that Elijah will have some of his forces target the pack whilst I’m out of the borders. This is the part
they aren’t going to like, okay?” I waited for him to nod in acknowledgement before continuing. “I
need every mile of the border covered, except for half a mile by the lake to the east,” I pointed this out
on the map.
“I want to funnel them into one place. It’s very possible they will have an advantage in terms of
numbers, we currently have no idea how many rogues are coming today.” I sighed, tapping my fingers
on the table.
“Around the purposeful gap, hide the remainder of the warriors. There are a lot of cans of scent
blocker in the storeroom, we will need it.”
“I can see what you are planning there, my Queen. May I make a suggestion?”
“Of course, Jeremiah. It’s what I pay you for, after all.” I smiled.
“If we move the gap a mile further south, we can use both the mountains and the lake as part of the
funnel to force them into an even smaller space.”
I tilted my head as I looked at the map. “Sounds like a plan, Jeremiah. If you take the lead setting this
up, I trust you to get the placement of the funnel in the perfect place.”
“Thank you, my Queen.”
“Now, as part of my plan, I will be crossing the border at about 5pm. I will need you to help me get
across the border undetected and lose any trails Callum and Oscar have set up. And especially if it is
Callum and Oscar themselves that are following me.”
“We’ll need a distraction, my Queen.”
“That we will. I need to cross at the north border. I can command the border control in the area to let
me through and keep it to themselves, but I can’t and don’t want to command the Kings, but I also
don’t know who they would pick to tail me.”
“Let me deal with the tail, my Queen. I’ll find out who it is, and get them off your back long enough
for you to get through the border, if you can then just take care of the border wolves? I can leave that
area weaker until you’re through.”
“Thank you, sounds like a plan,” I smiled. “So now, I am going to give everyone a hand getting ready
here; I still have about eight hours until I need to leave; I’ll mindlink you when I am. That link will be
very carefully worded because I expect Oscar will be listening in to my links. As soon as you get the
link, and it definitely will not say where I am or what I’m doing, I’ll be leaving the packhouse and
heading for the border. Let’s get this command done.”
He nodded, and I took a deep breath. “Jeremiah, I command you not to repeat anything I have told
you about my plans for today or any subsequent day that involves the Rogue King, otherwise known
as Elijah Madden. At 6. 50pm, you must give the envelope to Callum and Oscar. Once they have read
the contents, you may repeat anything I have told you.”
“Understood, my Queen.”
“Perfect. We have lots to do and organise, so if you meant me back here at 4pm, I’ll give you the
envelope.”
