AVA
To summarise, it’s two days before the full moon. And it’s not early in the day either, it’s nearly 11pm.
According to the Moon Goddess, Selene, that’s when shit is going to get serious.
There are two psychopaths that want to forcibly mark me. One is the Rogue King, the other is the
brother of the Beta female of a pack that’s not even that close to ours. They both believe that if they
forcibly mark me, any future pups of ours would be all-powerful, help them take over the world… and
whatever else power hungry psychopaths want.
They’ve heard the legends of the Alpha Queen, and most likely interpreted it wrong.
I’m still missing one of my fated mates. He’s been captured by the power-hungry psychopath who
wants to forcibly mark me and is being kept somewhere in a basement near a train line. We’ve still got
about fifteen miles of train line to search, and it’s in a territory we’ve got to sneak into so we don’t
immediately start a war.
At the same time, our pack’s Alpha has been kidnapped by the other psychopath who wants to force
me into a matebond. Since he is a rogue, he could be absolutely freaking anywhere.
We know the particular psychopath that’s kidnapped our Alpha will be coming for me on the full
moon, but that doesn’t mean he’ll bring our Alpha with him. Or that our Alpha will even be alive
come the full moon.
“Alex, have you seen Luna Amelia?”
“I haven’t in a couple days, no.”
I scowled. “Are we sure she’s still here and that the Rogue King hasn’t got her too?”
He just shrugged and looked blank.
I opened a link with Callum. “Callum, Luna Amelia might be missing, can you get a couple of our
warriors searching the pack territory for her please.”
“Fuck,” he swore. “On it, boss lady.”
I giggled. “Thanks, babe.”
“Ava…” Alex’s voice was low, restrained. “Are you going to stand in as Alpha for now? You’re the
highest ranking individual in the pack.”
“I can’t, Alex.” I swapped to mind linking just him. “If the worst happens to me, if I’m acting Alpha,
we could lose the pack.” I waited for him to nod before swapping back to talking out loud. “You’re
his second, so I think it’s probably best if you do until we find the real Jacob. It’ll be less of a shock to
the system for the pack if it’s you too, they’re all used to you being part of the management structure
already.”
He nodded. “Do we tell them the truth? About Jacob?”
I leaned back in my chair, deep in thought. “If Luna Amelia isn’t missing, it should be her decision. If
she is… I think yes, we tell them. That way we can have the entire pack looking for clues as they go
about their normal day.”
“AVA!” Callum shouted through the link, loud enough that I winced. “Can I borrow Oscar?”
“What’s up, Callum?”
“I think Luna Amelia is missing.”
Now it was my turn to swear a lot. “We’re all on our way. We have twelve warriors, plus me, you,
Oscar, Noah and your dad.” I opened the link up to include the rest of them. “We need to search the
territory for Luna Amelia as quickly as possible. We’re going to split up the Lycan warriors to do it.
Noah, if you take three and search the forest to the south, Oscar, you take three and go to the north.
Callum, take two to search the north of the town, I’ll take two to the south. Alex… take the last two
and search the main pack buildings and public grounds.”
A chorus of “yes, my Queen” rang out.
“Callum, you’re head of the Queen’s Guard. If you can split up the teams, that would be awesome.”
NOAH
This was not how I pictured life would be after I found and marked my mate.
I imagined I’d be spending all my time with her, getting to know each other intimately, dates, and all
that good stuff.
Not trying to work out where a psychopath that wants to steal my mate has taken my mother and
father. That was not part of the plan.
Normally, the forest to the south of the territory is beautiful. Full of plants and animals, and there’s
even a waterfall. But when you’re trying to find a trace of your mum… that stuff just gets
inconvenient.
We searched for hours to no avail. By the time Ava called time on the search. It was nearly 3am.
“Thanks for your help, everyone,” Ava’s voice came through the link. “Go back, we need to all get
some sleep. We’ve got a territory to sneak into and a train line to scope out when it’s a slightly more
reasonable time.”
I opened a link with just Ava, Callum and Oscar. “Do you all mind if I have Ava just with me
tonight?”
“Of course I can, Noah,” she replied, and I could feel her smile.
“Noah, can you stay in the pack house tonight though?” Callum asked. “Easier to keep an eye on
everyone if we’re together.”
“I’ve still got a double room set up at the packhouse, so Noah and I can go there. I believe the next
room is a double too that’s normally empty, so you and Oscar could take that one,” Ava replied to
Callum.
“Sounds like a plan, everyone,” I replied, relief in my voice.
I fell straight into bed when we reached the packhouse, and pulled Ava straight into my arms, pressing
a kiss to her forehead. “I love you, Avelina Wroblewski,” I whispered in her ear.
“And I love you, Noah William Hughes.”
