Chapter 50: Did grandfather also know?

Ava Leon opened the closet and saw different designs of clothes. There aren’t any clothes in the wardrobe that aren’t designer. It seemed to them as normal brands of clothes.
Then she saw the jewellery, some of gold, some silver and diamonds. The commonest ones are the diamonds with their necklaces and pendants.
“I want you to settle in properly. Your dad and I have a lot to discuss with you” Nancy declared. She wants to leave Ava now, so she can have some privacy and rest a while.
“Alright mother,” Ava Leon said with a smile. She really needs time to be alone and to be able to sink in all that she’s experiencing at the moment.
It seemed to her like a midsummer’s night dream and even at that, she didn’t want to wake up from it. She wants to keep dreaming.
“I’ll leave you too” Charlotte announced and gave her a peck on her chin, something identical to what Santiago did a while ago. These two lovers are addicted to planting featherlight kisses on the chin.
It only means that they’re so used to it, that they no longer attach love and relationship to it. It’s normal, giving a peck on the chin of their loved ones.
When someone knows only how to love, he has nothing else to offer except that love. Her parents were also like that. And now, her biological family is consumed with love for each other. That’s a beautiful thing.
And family that love, will last long together. The cord that binds them is love. And the bond of love cannot easily be broken.
“It’s alright Charlotte. I’ll join you guys soon” Ava chimed. She smiled and watched her Mom and future sister in-law step out. Her jaws hurt her. The smile, the laughter was really much and it seemed to drain her of strength.
Thank goodness they excused her. She needs some time to herself and she feels fatigued and sleepy. Then suddenly, she remembered, she’s pregnant.
The excitement of the moment has made her forget that she has a little life growing in her belly. She caressed her belly. Will they be willing to accept the baby as well?
She’ll simply tell them she got pregnant accidentally and the father of her unborn baby was dead. Yes, Adrian is dead to her. He exists only in her past.
But what about her momma? How is she feeling at the moment? She probably hasn’t known that she’s out of the shores of New Jersey.
Before she would get to know that she’s missing and thereby getting disturbed, she’ll find a way to reach out to her first. That way, whatever she heard the press say, wouldn’t bulge her.
But then, she doesn’t have a phone at the moment. She will have to use someone else’s phone to call. But besides her momma, the only person that would truly be sad about her disappearance is grandfather Lester.
How is he now, is he still alive? She wished him to come out of the coma. She wants him to survive and live ten thousand years. He is a good man.

Grandfather Lester’s excited looks gradually dissipated. He glared at Adrian and was unhappy. How can he play such pranks as to say Ava Leon is dead?
He had eavesdropped on her conversation with Alice and suspected that she might be pregnant. And that pregnancy was definitely Adrian’s.
“What nonsense are you spurting? How can Ava be dead?” Grandfather Lester cautioned. But a fearful truth was being registered at the back of his mind.
Why is the entire mansion so serene? Why is everyone talking in whispers? Why is Richard and everyone else, dressed in black? And Alice was looking like she had lost an only child?
And the only person that was missing at the moment is Ava. Can she really be dead? No, this shouldn’t be. Grandfather’s hands shivered and his complexion was going pale.
“Ava is indeed a dead grandfather. We had the funeral this morning” Adrian explained. He lost his wife, he lost Ava and it’s all his fault. His stupidity was the reason why he got someone like his mother to assist him in his inhumanity.
There was a silence that followed. Grandfather appeared lost and distant. So she died. No wonder the divorce didn’t get through. He had thought Adrian had decided to have a change of mind, but alas, the situation made it so.
But what happened to her? His dear Ava was full of life, strong and healthy. How can she just die suddenly? Was it an accident or she fell victim to a strange bullet? What happened to her?
After a long time when everyone was almost suspecting that grandfather has lost his mind, he asked “What happened to her, what led to the untimely death of my granddaughter” he asked, in a shaking voice.
His hands were shivering, his voice was no different. His complexion turned very pale and he suddenly appeared very old and aged.
“She was a victim of a fire outbreak,” Adrian replied. He wished his grandfather would pause. He doesn’t want him to probe further because that’s where he would lose his temper on him.
Grandfather raised his head and glared at his grandson. Ava, victim of fire outbreak? She died such a horrible death? That’s a painful way to die, a very painful death.
“Did the Leon family house go ablaze? Isn’t there anyone to save her? What about her parents, are they alive too, especially Sam, he’s been bedridden, was he saved?” Grandfather asked, in a dejected way.
Richard fixed his gaze on Adrian. He just doesn’t know what he will do that will hurt him and bring his ego under his foot. He wants to deal with this son of his.
“No, grandfather. It’s not in the Leon family house nor anywhere else. It happened…” Adrian paused, his voice suddenly choked and he sunk into the sofa.
He held his head between his palm and silently sobbed. Heaven knows how he wished that this horrible thing never happened to Ava. He didn’t want her dead let alone in a fire outbreak with his unborn baby.
“Where did it happen? Talk to me at once” grandfather urged. He seemed to be impatient and Adrian couldn’t say anything. Grandfather Lester became restless and he tried to get off the wheelchair.
Adrian saw him and remembered Sam Leon. He perhaps wouldn’t have died if he hadn’t tried leaving his wheelchair in his weak body. He went over and held his grandfather’s feet.
“She died in prison, grandfather. It’s all my fault. I killed Ava, I am responsible for everything that happened to her. I sent her to jail because I thought she tried to murder you and that’s where the unfortunate incident happened…” Adrian explained, now clasping his hands with tear filled eyes.
“What have.. you…done?” Grandfather asked and sniffled. His eyes clouded with tears.
“I’m sorry grandfather, I’m sorry” Adrian pleaded and grandfather was filled with fury. He killed the innocent Ava?
“What about the unborn Lester in her belly, did he also die?” Grandfather asked wearily, this news was getting too heavy for him to bear.
Adrian Lester raised a brow and stared at his grandfather. Did grandfather also know that Ava was pregnant?
