Meanwhile, Adrian was happy. He would talk to Ava to meet him in his attorney’s place that morning. But then, he remembered grandfather told him he wanted to see him urgently last night but he was caught up with a dinner party with a client and returned late.
He would see grandfather that morning before leaving. But if he thinks he can talk him away from signing the divorce papers, he won’t listen to him.
Grandfather should know what it means to be in love. He probably had also been in love with his grandmother back then that is why he could never say three lines of a sentence without mentioning his grandmother’s name.
But as he descended the stairs, he heard grandfather scream Ava’s name and it sounded scary, quickly, Adrian rushed towards his grandfather’s room and Anna followed.
When he pushed the door open, a scary gory scene was before him. Adrian felt his heart beat almost skipped as he gazed on the floor laid his grandfather in his own pool of blood. At this time, grandfather couldn’t say anything again but simply pointed in a certain direction.
Over grandfather stood Ava Leon, looking scared and pale and in her hand was a dagger dripping blood. Her hand was covered in blood and she glared down at grandfather in fright.
“Grandfather!” Adrian screamed, running over and lifting him over. He pulled his grandfather to himself and called out “An ambulance, get an ambulance”
Without waiting, Adrian Lester carried his grandfather and rushed down the stairs and called for an ambulance immediately. Without waiting for an ambulance to arrive, he got into the car, with his body now covered in blood and urged the chauffeur to move very fast.
On the way to the hospital, he kept calling him, asking him to hold on. He wants him to stay alive to see his child. He was fidgeting but pleading with his grandfather to hang on and not succumb to death.
Alice came over and wanted to take the knife away from Ava but Anna intercepted her and slapped Ava across her face.
“What has he done to you, Ava? You wanted him to take sides with you and stop Adrian from getting divorced with you. And because he didn’t, you stabbed him?” Anna accused.
Ava just stood staring at the blood stained floor. Anna’s slap didn’t seem anything to her but the sight of seeing her grandfather in his own pool of blood frightens her and she felt her body shivering.
Anna’s words fell on deaf ears. She didn’t hear her at all. Her mind was racing fast. Is grandfather dead?
Alice brought Ava to sit down on the couch. Besides her hand that was blood stained, no other parts of her body has any stain. She looked morose from the shock of seeing her grandfather in his own pool of blood.
Anna Lester walked over to the telephone and dialled a certain number. Few minutes later, Ava was brought out of her numbness when she saw two police officers walking into the sitting room.
“The police?” She blurted. That was when the possibility dawned on her that she might be a suspect in the attack. grandfather had. She glanced at her mother-in-law.
“Yes, the police. I invited them over” Anna blurted. Now, she’ll deal with this woman that she would never forget the name Anna Lester until her seventh life.
“You call the police for me, mother?” Ava Leon asked, her eyes welled up with tears. Has it gotten to this point that she wouldn’t even ask her what happened?
“I didn’t call the police for you, Ava Leon, I did for the criminal who stabbed father to death” Anna declared and glared at her with resentment.
Turning to the police officers, she declared “This is the woman who maliciously stabbed my father in law on his chest”
Ava’s tears run down her cheeks. How can she explain it to her and everyone that she didn’t do it? Right there, she was handcuffed and taken away amidst tears.
Before stepping out of the sitting room, she turned back and glanced at Alice over her shoulders, shaking her head and the older woman nodded.
They both understood each other and Alice hurried away, sobbing aloud. How can this be happening to Ava Leon? How can this be, when she’s pregnant with Lester’s child in her belly.
The police officers got a transparent bag and placed the knife into it using a hand glove. They are to examine the knife for fingerprints.
Anna took her handbag and got into her car as her chauffeur drove her to the hospital. When she got there, she met Adrian and Clem waiting by the theatre entrance.
“Adrian, how is father?” Anna asked, fidgeting, afraid that something bad had happened to father. Her eyes were already puffy as she’d been crying.
“I don’t know yet, mother. He’s been operated upon. I don’t know if he will make it or not” Adrian responded with a tone of uncertainty.
He pulled his blazer off and was looking tense. His complexion was out of place but tried to suppress his anxiousness in order to be able to calm his mother.
“Did the doctor say he is in danger?” Anna asked, sniffling and Adrian didn’t respond to her this time. He pulled her to himself and brought her to sit down.
Clem kept answering Adrian’s call and gave him feedback until when the light in the theatre was put off. At this time, a few hours have passed and they’re almost losing hope that grandfather would come out of that theatre alive.
Eventually the doctors stepped out and the head of the team of surgeons put his mask off and said “It’s a 50, 50 chance of survival. But we’ve done our best” he informed and walked away.
Grandfather was taken into a private ward, to keep him alive, they placed him on life support. If he doesn’t come out of coma after three months, he would be allowed to die.
“Why would Ava do this to grandfather?” Anna stuttered, not asking anyone in particular. This is the only person that loves her in the Lester family and yet, she stabbed him, she tried to kill him?
This scumbag tried to murder father. What has he done to her? There isn’t anything these lowlives cannot attempt in this life to get their desires come through.
Adrian has not been able to come to a conclusion on all the reasons possible, popping in his head. Why would she do it?
But whatever her reasons are, he must deal with her for letting his grandfather be in such a delicate condition. If he dies, she’ll be his escort in death.
“Ava Leon will pay for what she’d done to grandfather. I’ll ruin her to the extent that she would choose death over life” Adrian mumbled.
