Happy Again

Book:His Unwanted Bride (Married by Mistake) Published:2024-11-1

Ava strides away, ignoring the furious dude she had married by mistake. If he thinks he is so mighty and he couldn’t talk back to him, he must be mistaken. That era had passed.
Now, tooth for tooth and an eye for an eye. She would give him a backlash however he throws it at her. That’s how they’ll remain until the divorce comes through.
She decided to go visit her parents rather than going to see her professor. She would prepare for that the next morning.
Adrian’s complexion hadn’t recovered from the purple as his chauffeur drove his car close to where Ava Leon stood, a few distance away, waiting to get a taxi.
How dare she lash at him with her words? Does she want to die? Did she know he can ruin her entire family in a single hour? How dare she?
“Sir, ma’am is by the road, should I pick her?” The chauffeur demanded, gradually bringing the car to a slow as they got near to where Ava stood.
But rather than receive a response, he felt the atmosphere in the car become condensed. He glanced at his boss from the centre mirror and saw his eyes, staring coldly at him.
He shivered and felt he would freeze from such a stare. He didn’t wait to be told as he picked up and zoomed off. The last time he saw the boss stare at someone like that, he lost his job the next minute.
“If you had stopped, I swear to you, you’ll be a dead man and your corpse feed to the fishes” Adrian threatened. How dare this idiot refer to that nuisance as his ma’am?
“I’m sorry sir” the chauffeur apologised. He knows that the boss and his wife aren’t having a perfect marriage but didn’t expect that as wealthy and influential as the name Adrian Lester is known in the entire city, his legally wedded wife would stand by the roadside to get a taxi.
“Give that sorry to your father’s ass” Adrian bellowed. He would have him fired with the next slightest thing he would do. Such employees who don’t know their place often suffer from that.
Ava saw Adrian’s car slowed down and she was ready to be humiliated again but thank goodness, he probably had a change of mind and he drove off. She’s so sick and tired of this son of the Lester family.
How on earth can someone look so attractive and charming but he’s a devil inside.
When Ava arrived at her parents house, her dad was being attended to. The doctor was leaving when she got in. Her father was lying on the bed, after being examined.
“Good morning doctor” Ava Leon greeted, looking past the doctor to her father. She hadn’t seen them in a while but seeing her dad looking so pale and thin, makes her feel sad.
“Hello Ava. How have you been? Really being a while” the doctor and Ava exchanged pleasantries and the former explained to Ava that her father needed more attention now than before.
He needs to stay happy in order to have his life prolonged. His heart is failing him gradually and he would need all the support and love he could get now.
Ava appreciated the doctor and walked him to the door. By the time she returned, her father was seated with his back supported by a pillow.
“Papa” Ava went to her father and hugged him. She placed her hand across his shoulder and smiled broadly at him. How much she’s so fond of her father. He dotes on her and calls her the daughter of the star kingdom.
He gave her everything he can afford with his meagre income. He was working as a gardener in the Lester family before he had an accident that rendered him bedridden.
“My daughter. How are you darling? You know how much I missed you dear. You’re always in my mind and I have longed to see you for a long time.
Why haven’t you come over to see me all these months? I wanted to give you the blessing of a father before your second wedding anniversary and you didn’t come. Why didn’t you come…” Sam Leon was asking so many questions that Clara had to come in.
“If Ava can remember the first question you asked, perhaps she can start answering you from there…”she teased and they all laughed.
“But you know that I missed my dear daughter?” Sam Leon repeated. He was happy and smiling broadly.
“Our daughter is home. I think we should share the breakfast table together again. It’s been a long time since we have her here” Clara suggested.
“Yes, I’ll have breakfast with you all today” Sam declared and gestured to help himself up. He hadn’t stepped out of his room in weeks. The doctor said he should stay in bed all day. His heart was getting weaker.
“I’ll help you to the wheelchair Papa” Ava offered, happy and excited that she’s with them again. But then, she was smiling but inwardly, she was dazed with the drastic change in her father’s looks.
He looked so old now. His grey hair seemed to have multiplied. His beard is so bushy, untrimmed and white. His complexion was pale and he looked skinny.
It doesn’t appear that he is fine. His outward looks makes him look as if he would die any moment. But she pretended and helped him to sit on his wheelchair and she rode him to the tiny spacious space they used as a dining area.
“I’m so excited to see you Papa, mama. You both are the happiest family any child would ever desire” Ava chimed, walked over and was ready to dish the food.
“You’re our pride, darling. You’re the only thing your Papa and I have in this life that we would cherish till our death” Clara said and held her daughter’s hand with tear filled eyes.
She’d hoped she would visit them and she came. Her papa was slowly melting away and he didn’t want her to know. He’d kept his pains and delicate condition away from her. He doesn’t want to hurt her or make her sob.
But how long can he hold on? If he eventually dies, wouldn’t she sob? She would almost cry herself to blindness but Sam said he prefers that she sobs when he’s dead. He would not be able to bear it if he saw her tears.
Ava’s eyes welled up with tears. How could she have left her loving parents to live in that prison called a mansion? How can her life be miserable while her parents longed to see her again.
“I love you mama, I love you Papa” Ava said and kissed her mom’s chin. She hugged her Papa’s neck and let a few tears cascaded her cheeks.
Her present dilemma can only make her sob. She was going to tell them about her marriage and Adrian but from what the doctor said and her dad’s appearance, she wouldn’t dare it.
“We love you very much, dear, more than our own lives” Sam Leon blurted in a shaking voice. He turned his gaze away and blinked his eyes a few times, pushing the tears back.
Oh, why wouldn’t life give him good health and a long life to look after his daughter? She needed him now and he was slowly rotting away in death.
Oh his darling daughter, is she happy with Richard’s son? Is she being taken care of? Is she accepted and given the position of the daughter in-law of the family?
May the creator give his daughter thousands and thousands of happiness and make her a happy woman and mother. He couldn’t give her enough happiness and good things in this life, but may the creator give her all the happiness in the world.
