Amelia pov
I hurriedly packed my bags, feeling less than thrilled about visiting Alpha Ethan’s pack. It’s renowned as the most stunning pack among all werewolves. At least he has a sense of style, unlike Lucas, who has a knack for terrible interior design.
“Amelia, can you hurry up? I have other things to do at your beloved Alpha Ethan’s pack,” Lucas’s voice interrupted my thoughts, and I rolled my eyes in annoyance. Whatever. I just hope you steer clear of your ex-mate, Harper. You’ve rejected her, and I’m your fiancee; I won’t tolerate any cheating. I declared as I zipped up my bag.
“Lucas, please get a nice flashy car. I don’t want anything that doesn’t meet my standards.”
I shot him a sharp look, narrowing my eyes. “I’m coming, I’m coming. No need to rush me,” I replied, trying to keep my voice light despite the unease creeping in. The thought of Harper still made me feel insecure.
Lucas chuckled, his eyes glinting with mischief. “Oh, I’m rushing you? You’re the one who’s been slow since we got the invite to Ethan’s pack. What’s holding you back?” He raised an eyebrow, his gaze intense.
I shrugged, dodging his question. “Just making sure I have everything I need.” I slang my bag over my shoulder and smoothed my dress, taking a moment to gather my thoughts.
As we stepped out of the mansion, the bright sunlight hit me, momentarily blinding me. Our driver stood by the car, his face expressionless. But Lucas was not pleased.
“Desmond, this isn’t acceptable,” Lucas said, waving dismissively at the sleek black sedan. “Get something more extravagant. A Ferrari, maybe. Or that new Lamborghini.”
Desmond nodded without a word. “Right away, Alpha.”
I sighed internally. Lucas’s love for extravagance often made me uncomfortable. We had been engaged for six months, and while I was getting used to his lavish lifestyle, some of his habits still bothered me.
Desmond quickly returned with a shiny red Lamborghini. Lucas’s face lit up as he opened the door for me.
“Your ride is here, my dear,” he said, flashing a charming smile.
I managed a smile, but a sense of unease settled in. This trip was already a burden, and Lucas’s playful demeanor wasn’t helping.
As we drove away from the mansion, the city blurred past my window. My mind wandered to Harper, Lucas’s former mate. The one he had turned down, yet still seemed to have lingering feelings for.
Anxiety twisted in my stomach. What if he still had feelings for her? Would he keep his distance?
“Lucas?” I asked, my voice barely audible.
“Yes?” He looked at me, curiosity shining in his eyes.
“Promise me… you won’t approach Harper. Not even to say hello.” My voice quivered slightly.
Lucas’s demeanor softened as he took my hand. “Amelia, I made a promise Harper belongs to my past. You are my future. I won’t risk what we share.” His fingers intertwined with mine, giving a gentle squeeze that brought me comfort.
Yet, as we drove toward Alpha Ethan’s pack, the uncertainty within me lingered.
Would Lucas uphold his promise? Only time would reveal the answer.
As we neared Alpha Ethan’s territory, the landscape transformed from city skyscrapers to verdant forests and rolling hills. The pack’s land was famous for its stunning beauty, and I felt a flicker of excitement.
Lucas tightened his grip on my hand. “Feeling nervous?” he asked softly.
“A bit,” I confessed. “I’ve heard so much about Ethan’s pack.”
Lucas laughed lightly. “You’ll win them over, Amelia. You always do.”
We turned onto a winding driveway flanked by tall trees and colorful wildflowers. The pack’s lodge appeared ahead a stylish, modern building that harmonized with its natural surroundings.
Stepping out of the Lamborghini, I was greeted by the sounds of laughter and conversation carried by the wind. Lucas offered me his arm, and we walked toward the entrance.
Alpha Ethan welcomed us with warmth, his striking blue eyes crinkling with a smile. “Lucas, Amelia! It’s great to have you here.”
Ethan’s charm was palpable, and I found myself smiling as he embraced me. “Thank you for hosting us, Alpha Ethan.”
“Just Ethan, please,” he replied with a grin. “We keep it casual here.”
Upon entering the lodge, I was captivated by the refined decor elegant, understated, and a stark contrast to Lucas’s style. Perhaps it was Harper’s influence?
The room buzzed with pack members eager to meet us. Lucas’s natural charisma won them over, but I could sense an undercurrent of tension.
My attention was drawn to a petite blonde Harper. She lingered at the edge of the room, her eyes fixed on Lucas. For a brief moment, their gazes locked, and a pang of unease shot through me.
“Lucas, let’s socialize,” I whispered, pulling on his arm.
He nodded, but his eyes lingered on Harper for a moment too long.
But hold on, Amelia, don’t tell me this socializing involves Harper, he replied, still watching her. I hissed, dismissing his chatter.
“Come on,” I said firmly, dragging him away from the tempting sight of Harper.
Lucas laughed, his gaze still fixed on her. “You’re protective, Amelia. I find that appealing.”
I shot him a warning look. “Don’t push your luck, Lucas.”
As we mingled, I couldn’t shake the feeling that Harper’s presence had stirred something in Lucas-something he believed was buried deep.
We exchanged small talk with Ethan’s group, but my thoughts drifted. What was Harper up to? Did she want to reignite something with Lucas?
A light touch on my elbow pulled me from my thoughts. “Amelia, may I have a moment of your time?” Ethan asked, his smile inviting.
“Absolutely, Ethan,” I said, relieved for the diversion.
Once we were apart, Ethan’s demeanor shifted to serious. “I’m glad you came with your fiance, Lucas.”
My heart raced. “What do you mean by that?”
“I don’t know, but keep an eye on him; he shouldn’t go directly to Harper. She belongs to me.”
