Sarah pov
I descended the stairs in my nightwear, feeling the weight of stress pulling at my eyelids. As I entered the living room, I scanned the area for Alpha Ethan, but the silence was palpable, broken only by the hustle of a pack worker.
What’s happening? Where is everyone? I wondered. Just then, a pack servant passed by, the scent of baked beans catching my attention, though that wasn’t my main concern.
“Hey! Where is everyone? Alpha Ethan, Alessia, and that annoying Harper?” I demanded, my voice dripping with disdain.
“Oh, they went to a ball.”
My eyes widened in disbelief at the news. The ball is high… I trailed off, anger bubbling up inside me. Ethan was going to dance with that ridiculous mate. Great, just what I needed-drama. They think keeping me away will prevent trouble, but maybe I’ll sneak in, wear the same color as Harper, and lock her up until the event is over.
I plotted my next move while standing silently, staring blankly at the woman next to me.
“What’s Harper wearing?” I asked the servant, forcing a smile.
The servant glanced around nervously before answering, “I believe she’s in a red gown, ma’am.”
My smile widened, and my mind buzzed with devious plans. “Perfect.”
I turned swiftly, my nightwear billowing behind me, and headed toward my room. It was time for a change.
In just a few minutes, I reappeared, transformed a striking replica of Harper’s red gown clung to my figure, and my hair was styled just like hers.
The servant’s eyes widened as I walked by. “Ma’am, you… you look just like…”
I shot her a wink. “That’s the idea.”
With deliberate steps, I made my way to Highland Hall, my heart racing with excitement.
Once there, I blended into the crowd, searching for Ethan and Harper. The music rose, and laughter echoed around me.
Then I saw them Ethan’s tall frame loomed over Harper, his gaze fixed on her as they danced.
My vision blurred, anger bubbling just beneath the surface.
It was time to make my entrance.
I navigated through the dancers, my focus locked on Ethan. As I got closer, Harper’s eyes met mine, her smile fading.
Ethan’s expression shifted, sensing the tension.
“Sarah, what are you doing here?” he asked, his voice low and cautious.
I fluttered my eyelashes. “I can’t miss out on the fun, Alpha.”
Harper tightened her hold on Ethan’s arm.
“Mind if I join?” I asked, my tone sweet as honey.
Ethan’s moment of doubt was all I needed.
With a mischievous grin, I moved into Harper’s spot, my body brushing against Ethan’s.
The music enveloped us, our gazes locked in a silent duel.
“Shall we dance, Alpha?” I murmured, my voice laced with allure.
Ethan’s eyes flickered with caution, but I noticed a hint of intrigue.
“What is this nonsense, Sarah?” Alessia’s voice sliced through the air. “I know she thinks I’ll listen, but that’s foolish.” I brushed her off, placing my hands on Ethan’s shoulders.
“Don’t you dare make a scene, Alessia. Your brother is an alpha; he won’t want any trouble,” I taunted, glaring at Alessia and Harper.
Alessia’s eyes blazed with fury, her complexion drained. “How dare you, Sarah. You’re overstepping.”
I smiled innocently, my grip on Ethan’s shoulders tightening. “Oh, I’m just getting warmed up.”
Ethan’s hold on my waist shifted, his voice steady. “Sarah, cut it out.”
But I was past reasoning. The music swirled around us, and I leaned in closer to Ethan, my body against his.
Harper’s expression twisted in disdain. “You’re pathetic, Sarah.”
I chuckled, the sound sultry. “Jealousy doesn’t look good on you, Harper.”
Alessia moved closer, her eyes blazing. “Sarah, step away. Immediately.”
Ethan’s voice rose, demanding attention. “Please, just stop.”
The music stumbled, and the crowd shifted, sensing the rising tension.
I leaned in, my lips nearly touching Ethan’s ear. “Dance with me, Alpha.”
Ethan’s gaze fixed on mine, a blend of irritation and intrigue. For a brief moment, I thought I detected a hint of longing.
Then, his demeanor changed. “No, Sarah. This stops now.”
With a decisive motion, he took my hands off his shoulders and stepped back.
Alessia visibly relaxed. Harper’s smile returned, victorious.
But I stood my ground. My eyes remained locked on Ethan’s, a challenge igniting within me.
“This isn’t finished,” I murmured, my voice low.
Ethan’s stare met mine, a warning flickering in his eyes.
The night was just beginning.
