Lucas pov
She let out a moan, pulling me closer by my waist. I couldn’t help but wonder if I had done enough to satisfy her. Amelia seemed so ungrateful for the lengths I went to meet her needs. It was strange how she could reach her peak so easily, almost like an animal.
I withdrew, panting heavily, my heart filled with frustration. She wasn’t the passionate partner I envisioned, even though she was my fiancee. Amelia was truly getting on my nerves.
“Lucas, is something wrong?” she asked, still lounging on the couch. “I haven’t even had my fill yet.” I shot her a disgusted look.
“Can you just get out of my bed? I’m already irritated. The pack resettlement is tearing me apart, and this… whatever this is, isn’t helping.” I snapped, pulling on my trousers. “Get me a drink. I need to distract myself.” I moved toward the couch to unwind.
Amelia raised an eyebrow, a mix of surprise and irritation on her face. “Lucas, what’s going on? You always push me away afterward. Can’t you just talk to me for once?”
I poured myself a whiskey, my hands trembling slightly as I noticed the bottle on the table. “There’s nothing to discuss, Amelia. This situation is stifling. The pack resettlement, our engagement… it feels like a joke.”
She sat up, her tone sharp. “A joke? You’re the one who agreed to this, Lucas. You need this alliance with my family to secure your pack’s future.”
My anger flared. “Don’t remind me. But this… this isn’t what I wanted. You’re not what…”
Her expression shifted to one of pain, quickly replaced by a sly smile. “Oh, Lucas. You’re so predictable. You think you’re the only one with desires? I’m just as trapped as you are.”
The air between them was thick with unspoken truths and unresolved feelings.
“Why did we continue to fight? Being with you for just a moment feels unbearable.” She glared at me, blinking rapidly as if ready to pounce. I looked at her with a hint of sympathy while I took a sip of my drink, the strong odor filling the air.
“I apologize for being too serious earlier; I’m just overwhelmed by everything going on. The mountain of work piling up on my desk is really dragging me down. Come here, I opened my arms for her to approach.”
Amelia’s face softened, her gaze searching mine. After a moment of hesitation, she walked toward me, her hips swaying gently. I embraced her, pulling her close.
“Forget the pack, forget the engagement, forget it all,” I murmured, my breath warm against her ear. “Just be with me, right now.”
Amelia’s hands moved up my chest, her fingers tracing my jawline. “You’re so unpredictable, Lucas,” she replied softly. “One moment you despise me, the next you crave me.”
I gave a wry smile. “Maybe I’m just lost.”
As we stood there, the tension shifted, becoming something delicate and intimate. Amelia’s lips brushed against mine, sending a thrill through me.
Just as we deepened the kiss, a loud crash erupted from outside, followed by the sound of breaking glass. We pulled apart, alarms written on our faces.
“What the…?” I muttered, moving toward the window.
Amelia followed, her eyes scanning the darkness. “Looks like we have an unexpected visitor.”
Perhaps we have another complicated situation to address, I said hoarsely, shrugging with a sense of unease.
I needed to check the pack environment, I stood up, heading to the door when an idea hit my brain. Can’t you accompany me, then wait for sex every minute.
Well, it’s time for dinner. Amelia.
Amelia raised an eyebrow, her expression shifting from concern to amusement. “You’re thinking about dinner at a time like this? And what’s with the ‘wait for sex every minute’ comment?”
I flashed a sheepish grin. “Priorities, Amelia. Food, safety, then… other things.”
She chuckled, despite the tension. “You’re impossible, Ethan.”
Together, we stepped out into the night, the cool air a welcome respite from the charged emotions inside. The guard securing the pack mansion waited, shrouded in shadows.
As we approached, I sensed a mix of familiarity and unease. “What do you want?” I demanded, my voice firm.
“The pack has an invitation for you to notice of the new project happening next week, I am not supposed to bring such information to you but it was brought in just now.” He mentioned, bowing his head.
“Fine. After dinner, I will send for you, just stick around. Please.”
The guard nodded, his eyes darting towards Amelia before returning to me. “Thank you, Alpha. I’ll await your summons.”
As he disappeared into the darkness, Amelia turned to me. “What’s this new project?”
I shrugged. “No idea. But I’ll find out soon enough.”
We entered the mansion, the warm glow of candles and fireplace embracing us. Dinner was already set, the aroma of roasted meat and fresh herbs wafting through the air.
As we sat down, Amelia’s gaze lingered on me. “Lucas, what’s troubling you? You seem distant.”
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. “Just pack business. And the pack suddenly demands.”
Amelia’s expression turned thoughtful. “You have a historical beginning, don’t you?”
I nodded, hesitant to reveal more.
After dinner, I summoned the guard, my curiosity getting the better of me. He arrived promptly, handing me a sealed envelope.
“For your eyes only, Alpha,” he said, before walking into the night.
I opened the letter, my heart racing as I read:
Alpha, please go through the pack demand, we will be visiting the pack mansion by 7 am tomorrow.
I hissed, caressing my hair backward. So tired of pack demands, all I want now is Harper.
