“Corey, turns out you are here.”
Hearing that, Corey and the girl turned toward the sound and noticed that Ying Xiaoxiao was standing not far away, smiling at them.
Ying Xiaoxiao was dressed in a light-blue dress that night, with curvy lines showcasing her well-endowed figure. Covered by a delicate makeup, her pretty little face seemed to shine more brilliantly. Her red lips curled into a smile as her pure eyes simmered with light.
Corey was amazed. He knew that she was pretty, but she seemed even prettier tonight.
“Xiaoxiao!” the girl next to Corey exclaimed.
Then, Ying Xiaoxiao noticed the girl sitting next to Corey.
She looked over and widened her eyes in shock as she walked toward them, asking in confusion, “Halle Mitchell?”
“Yes, it’s me.” The girl, Halle Mitchell, gave a flowery smile among her unconcealed astonishment. “Xiaoxiao, I didn’t expect you to be here too.”
“Why would Halle Mitchell be here, sitting next to Corey? Could it be…”
Hiding her thoughts, Ying Xiaoxiao smiled at her. “I am here to accompany my father. What about you? Were you invited as well?”
She seemed to ask this question casually but there was some hidden intention within it.
Halle Mitchell didn’t notice the hidden intention and hence replied honestly, “I was dragged here by Brother Corey. He told me that he was lacking a female partner, so I came to help him.”
Even though she had guessed the situation, Ying Xiaoxiao still felt terrible and was unable to smile further as she glanced coldly at Corey.
“Corey, isn’t it easy for you to get a female partner? Why did you ask Halle to help you? She’s my friend, not yours.”
Ying Xiaoxiao’s tone was agitated, as she couldn’t control her emotions.
Corey frowned, for even an idiot could tell that she was unhappy.
“However, why is she unhappy? Could it be because I brought her friend Halle to the dinner? Or because Halle’s appearance upset her?”
Before Corey could figure out an answer, Halle Mitchell became anxious.
“Xiaoxiao, I asked if I could help. Brother Corey didn’t force me.” Halle Mitchell answered on Corey’s behalf anxiously.
However, such a response made Ying Xiaoxiao more depressed.
“Brother Corey?
“She’s now calling Corey ‘Brother Corey’. I didn’t expect them to be close enough to call each other brother and sister.”
“First Miss Ying, Halle is my friend as well, not just your friend. It’s not an outrageous matter to ask her for help.” Regardless of the reason, Corey found her to be creating trouble, irrational, and ridiculous.
Ying Xiaoxiao stared at him and realized that he was frowning in dissatisfaction.
She suddenly realized that she had gone overboard. She was merely a fake girlfriend of his, bounded by contract. He should be free to bring whoever he wanted to participate in the dinner.
She appeared to be a woman who caught her boyfriend flirting with another woman, very agitated and rushed.
She took in a deep breath then exhaled slowly and smiled. “It wasn’t particularly outrageous. I went overboard. I apologize. Sorry.”
Then, she continued, “I shall not disturb you further. I’ll leave.”
After she spoke, she turned around to leave instantly before Corey could react.
Watching her leave, Halle Mitchell thought for a while before turning to Corey and asking cautiously, “Brother Corey, Xiaoxiao likes you, right?”
Corey raised an eyebrow and chuckled. “You are overanalyzing it. We’re just friends.”
“Really?” She thought, “Xiaoxiao’s behavior just now indicates that she doesn’t just treat Brother Corey as her friend.”
Seeing that she didn’t believe him, Corey rubbed her head and explained, “Don’t think about it. It’s her business whether she likes me or not.”
Halle Mitchell frowned slightly as she looked at his clean face. She found Brother Corey’s tone to be amiss, as if he was trying to clarify something.
