“Tomorrow, when you start your new role, I will provide you with more details about the investor. Be well prepared,” Mr. Ryan said, his voice calm but meaningful.
“Yes, sir,” Emily replied, a tone of respect evident in her voice. “But what if I fail to earn the investor’s trust?” she asked.
“In that case, you won’t be able to get the investment manager position in our company,” Mr. Ryan replied.
Emily fell silent, her gaze fixed on the table. If she wanted to get the position, she had to earn the investor’s trust. There was no other choice. The pressure she felt was getting stronger, like an invisible hand strangling her. She had to succeed.
As if he could read Emily’s thoughts, Mr. Ryan smiled warmly, his eyes twinkling with conviction. “I am sure you will handle this task well. I believe you will earn the trust of this investor,” he said with assurance, making Emily’s heart race with a mixture of nervousness and excitement.
“Thank you, sir,” Emily replied, her voice slightly trembling. “I’m prepared to learn and work hard.” An eager gleam shone in her eyes, ready to take on the challenges that awaited her.
Mr. Ryan nodded, a look of satisfaction on his face. “Good,” he said. “I trust you will not disappoint.”
Mr. Ryan continued thoughtfully, “Before you officially start your assignment tomorrow, make sure to understand the company’s vision and mission, as well as the company’s position in the investment market. This knowledge will serve as a solid foundation for you to comprehend the context of your task effectively,” he explained, looking at Emily expectantly.
Emily offered a faint smile, feeling a sense of responsibility coming over her. “Thank you for the guidance, sir.”
“Remember, don’t hesitate to ask questions and seek help if needed,” Mr. Ryan said, his voice filled with support and trust.
A warm smile graced Mr. Ryan’s face, making Emily feel calm and confident. “Thank you, sir. I’ll keep that in mind,” she replied.
Suddenly, the door to the study swung open with a gentle thud, startling both Emily and Mr. Ryan. A formally dressed woman stood in the doorway, her expression marked by concern.
“I apologize, Mr. Ryan, but there is an emergency meeting that requires your presence,” the woman informed.
Mr. Ryan nodded, his face also showing concern. “Alright, I’ll be right there,” he replied, standing up from his chair. “Mrs. Emily, I have to go. We’ll continue this conversation tomorrow.”
Emily nodded, “Yes, sir.”
“See you tomorrow,” Mr. Ryan said with a warm smile.
“Thank you, sir. See you tomorrow,” Emily replied excitedly, ready to start her first day at the company tomorrow.
After Emily finished today’s interview session, she decided to go to the clothing boutique to buy some suitable work clothes to wear tomorrow. Her steps were light as she stepped out of the office building. The fresh air greeted her outside, washing away some of the lingering anxiety from the interview.
Emily entered the clothing boutique and chose carefully. After a while, Emily finally found the right pieces of clothing. The choice finally came down to an elegant suit in a neutral color, a modest yet fashionable blouse.
Just as Emily was about to try on the clothes in the dressing room, her eyes caught the sight of a woman who seemed confused about choosing the right dress. The woman was pacing back and forth between the racks of clothes, holding several dresses with a face full of indecision. When their gazes met, the woman suddenly gave Emily a wide smile. Judging from the woman’s appearance, she was younger than Emily and also came from the upper class, with a branded handbag hanging from her arm.
“Excuse me, but can you help me decide which dress to buy?” the woman asked in a hopeful voice. “I’m at a loss to choose the right one for my birthday.”
Emily smiled kindly. “Of course,” she replied. “I’m happy to help. Can you show me some options that you like?”
The woman nodded happily. “Thank you very much!”
“Why don’t you ask their staff to help you pick out the right dress for you?” asked Emily, a little curious.
The woman shook her head. “No. They would have said all these dresses fit me and that didn’t help me at all. They just want the clothes in this boutique to sell out,” she replied with a chuckle. “I’d rather ask people who aren’t on the boutique staff for help. Because they’re more honest.”
Emily laughed at her answer. “Yes, I agree with you,” she replied. “I also don’t like it when people just try to sell me something without giving me honest advice.”
Emily felt there was a match between them. The woman looked beautiful with beautiful big eyes, and Emily felt mesmerized by her beauty.
“Which is better, this or this?” the woman pointed at some dresses she had chosen. Both dresses looked elegant and beautiful, but Emily felt there was quite a significant difference between them.
“Maybe you can try them on in the dressing room. I’ll find it easier to judge which one suits you,” Emily replied. “I think you’ll look beautiful in both dresses, but one will emphasize your beauty more.”
“You won’t mind if I interrupt your time for a moment?” the woman asked, a slightly worried look on her face.
Emily looked at her phone for a moment to check the time so she wouldn’t be late when she picked Grace up from school.
“Are you in a hurry?” she asked again, a worried look on her face.
“No, I’m not. I’m just checking the time because I still have to pick up my daughter later,” Emily replied. “I’ll help you pick out a dress since I still have half an hour.”
“You already have a child?” the woman asked, her eyes twinkling with curiosity.
“Yes, I already have a child,” Emily replied briefly with a smile. “She’s still young, just started elementary school.”
“But your face still looks so young,” said the woman in a very excited tone.
“Thank you,” Emily replied with a chuckle.
“Ah, we haven’t gotten acquainted yet. What’s your name?” the woman asked as she extended her hand.
“Emily,” Emily replied as she took the woman’s hand.
“Nice to meet you, Emily. I’m Alice,” the woman replied with a big smile.
After getting acquainted, Emily helped Alice pick out a suitable dress. Alice came out of the dressing room in the first dress, but Emily felt something was missing and shook her head. They continued to try on several other dress options until the choice finally fell on the fourth dress.
“This dress is perfect for you,” Emily said, looking amazed by Alice’s appearance. Alice looked very elegant and charming in the fourth dress she wore.
“Really?” asked Alice with sparkling eyes. “I’m not sure.”
“Of course you are. You look amazing in that dress. I’m sure you’ll be the center of attention at the event,” said Emily with confidence.
“Alright, I’ll just buy this dress. Thank you for your help,” Alice said with a cheerful smile on her face.
Emily smiled warmly. “Don’t mention it. I’m glad I could help you.”
“Emily, you are so kind. Can we be friends?” asked Alice hopefully.
Emily nodded sincerely with a smile. “Of course. Let’s be friends.”
“Emily, can I have your phone number?” asked Alice kindly. Emily happily gave her a number.
“Do you have time this week?” asked Alice again when they were at the checkout to pay for their clothes.
“I’m not sure. What’s up?” asked Emily.
“I want to invite you to my birthday party,” said Alice.
When the cashier mentioned the total price of the dresses Alice bought, Alice immediately gave her the card. “Please add this work outfit as well,” she pleaded, pointing at the work outfit Emily had chosen earlier.
“I can’t accept this, Alice,” Emily politely refused.
Alice smiled gently. “This is a token of my gratitude. Please accept it as a small gift.”
“Don’t do this,” Emily said, trying to refuse.
“I’ll be very sad if you refuse my gift,” Alice said, which made Emily sigh.
“Alright, thank you,” Emily replied in the end.
“You’re welcome, Emily,” Alice replied sincerely.
They left the boutique while continuing to talk and laugh.
“Just a moment,” Alice said as her cell phone rang.
Alice immediately picked up the phone. “Hello, have you arrived?” asked Alice with a smile on her face.
“Alright. I’ll wait for you,” Alice replied before hanging up.
“Emily, you can go home first. I have to wait for someone,” Alice said.
“Are you sure I can go first?” asked Emily with concern.
“Of course, no problem,” Alice replied. However, her eyes suddenly fell on an approaching black car.
“Ah, he’s here,” said Alice enthusiastically.
When Emily saw the figure coming out of the approaching black car, she was surprised. ‘Daniel,’ she whispered to herself.
