Robert took out his cell phone to call someone. Meanwhile, the twilight sky faded, casting a warm orange color behind the tall buildings.
“Hello,” came the voice on the other end.
“I need you to do something for me,” Robert said with a sly smile on his lips. With a sharp gaze, he glanced towards the window, as if contemplating his undeniably evil plan.

“Daniel, aren’t you tired of sleeping like that?” Emily grumbled while looking at Daniel. The room was silent, with only the ticking of the monitor accompanying Emily’s anxious moment at Daniel’s bedside. The twilight was fading, casting a soft orange color through the window.
“I’m pregnant and I’m six months along. That’s how long you’ve been away from me. Don’t you feel sorry for me and our child?” asked Emily with her tears falling on Daniel’s hand, creating a shadow of emotion in the dying room. The pulsing sound of the monitor was a silent witness to this emotional moment, breaking the silence of the hospital room. The atmosphere of the room was filled with a mixture of hope and despair that hung over Emily.
Suddenly Daniel’s hand, that was wetted by Emily’s tears, moved, making Emily surprised. She felt a mixture of surprise and hope arising from the movement of Daniel’s hand. In a state of shock, Emily looked at Daniel’s hand with an expression of disbelief, trying to understand what was going on.
“Daniel, can you hear me?” asked Emily, feeling the tremor of emotions that filled her chest.
In a state of anxiety and disbelief, Emily called the doctor or nurse on duty in the room. With quick steps, she pressed the emergency call button next to Daniel’s bed, hoping that help would arrive soon to find out what was going on. Meanwhile, mixed feelings of excitement and worry continued to haunt Emily’s mind.
After the doctor arrived in the room, he carefully examined Daniel’s condition and evaluated the hand movements that had occurred earlier. Seriously, the doctor observed any signs of life that might have happened to Daniel.
After a few moments of examination, the doctor finally raised his head and met Emily’s hopeful and worried gaze.
“How is my husband, Doctor?” Emily asked hopefully.
In a gentle but firm voice, the doctor gave the news, “The hand movements we saw earlier were spontaneous physical responses from the patient’s muscles. While this can be considered a positive sign, keep in mind that this does not yet show a complete recovery of consciousness. We need to continue monitoring the progress of his condition closely.”
After the doctor explained Daniel’s condition, Emily hopefully asked, “Is there any chance that he will regain consciousness soon?”
The doctor, cautiously, answered Emily’s question. “A person’s state of consciousness varies and is influenced by many factors,” he said in a calm voice. “Although the patient’s hand movements can be considered a positive sign, the recovery of consciousness may take a different amount of time for each individual.”
In a soft voice, the doctor again added, “Hopefully, the patient can be given a speedy recovery. We will keep doing our best and you, as his wife, should always support and keep praying for his recovery.”
Emily nodded gratefully and said, “Thank you, Doctor.”
After the doctor left the room, the hospital room was quiet again. The constant beeping of the monitor bore witness to the sadness felt by Emily.
“How is he?” a man’s voice interrupted Emily’s reverie. The man had just walked into the room after the doctor’s departure.
Emily lifted her gaze and met the worried gaze of the man who had just entered. “Sean,” she said in surprise when she saw Sean coming to visit Daniel.
Finally, Emily and Sean sat together in the front waiting room of the hospital.
“The doctor said that his condition still requires further monitoring,” Emily replied in a cautious voice.
Sean nodded understandingly, a look of concern on his face. “You look thinner now,” he said in a concerned tone, trying to discern the changes in Emily.
“Why didn’t you ever come to visit Daniel?” asked Emily in a slightly annoyed tone.
“I’ve been coming, I just never went inside,” said Sean.
“You could have gone inside. Why didn’t you? I thought you didn’t think of him as family anymore,” said Emily.
“I’ve hated him all this time. He was so cold and heartless, not to mention that because of his mother, my parents fought more often. But seeing him helpless like this, I feel a little sorry for him,” Sean answered honestly.
“Uncle Robert has taken over as interim CEO of the company,” Sean said, bringing the latest news.
“Yes, I know. I found out from Richard,” Emily replied with a flat expression.
“Daniel better wake up quickly before the CEO position falls into my hands,” Sean said.
Emily looked at Sean with an annoyed expression, making Sean laugh widely. “Why, are you angry because I want to take the CEO position from your husband? He has to wake up quickly if he doesn’t want his position taken by me,” Sean teased, creating a touch of humor so that Emily could be a little entertained by her sadness.
“You’re so annoying,” Emily said.
“I know,” Sean replied with a smile.
Emily paused and looked at Sean before saying. “Thank you for seeing Daniel today.”
“I’m sure Daniel will sober up soon because he’s a strong person. I’m sure he’ll also be happy if he hears the news about your pregnancy,” said Sean with confidence, showing his support and hope.
“You knew I was pregnant?” asked Emily in surprise.
“Of course, does this have to be a secret from me?” asked Sean.
Emily shook her head before replying, “Of course you can know about this, too.”
“It’s too bad I didn’t get a woman as good as you. If Daniel had wasted you, I would have taken you away from him,” said Sean in a humorous tone.
Emily rolled her eyes lazily at Sean’s words. “Here you go again,” she said in a slightly mocking tone.
“Alright, I’ll go home first. I’ll see him again tomorrow. Take care,” Sean said with a warm smile, reflecting his care and concern for Emily.
Emily nodded in understanding. “Thank you, Sean. See you tomorrow.” A look of gratitude was clear on her face, comforted by Sean’s presence and support in this situation.
Sean waved goodbye as he left the waiting room, leaving Emily with a mind filled with hopes and prayers for Daniel’s recovery.
“It turns out he’s not as bad as I thought,” Emily muttered, then went back inside Daniel’s room.

Unnoticed by Emily, there was a figure of someone dressed as a nurse peeking from behind the wall, waiting for the right time to launch the action. He took out his cell phone to inform someone. With clothes that were not suspicious like other nurses, he felt safe to plan his action.
“Hello,” came Robert’s voice from the other end of the line.
“I’m here,” said the man dressed as a nurse.
“Well, you understand what you have to do, don’t you?” came Robert’s voice again from the other end of the line.
“I understand,” replied the man dressed as a nurse.
“That’s good. Remember not to fail,” Robert said with a warning.
“Okay,” replied the man dressed as a nurse, and then disconnected the phone.
With steady steps and without hesitation, the man waited until Emily left Daniel’s room. When the opportunity finally arrived, he stepped towards Daniel’s room, his malicious intent in the air.
After making sure no one was aware of his presence, the figure disguised as a nurse opened the door to Daniel’s room carefully and stepped inside with light steps.
Without hesitation, he approached the IV connected to Daniel’s body. With careful movements, he took out a syringe filled with medicine and injected the medicine into the IV fluid that flowed slowly into Daniel’s body. Once finished, he hid the syringe back and quickly left the room.
