3rd person’s POV
Dimitri sat by the window, resting into the chair as he watches as Kate sleep, he has watch how Kate had grown with focus and determination.
As the moonlight filtered through the window, he sighed, feeling the weight of everything happening pressing down on him. Every of his pack members see him as the powerful one but here he is feeling and not efficient, With the recent activity of the rogues, the fear of losing any of his loved ones, the weight of protecting his people from the danger lurking around his territory, just when he had thought they have won another threat is stirring up.
He looked at Kate, just when he had thought he would not fall in love with any other woman after the loss of his first wife, the growing Bond between him and Kate keeps getting stronger, he had tried to push her away after she arrived at his pack, but the Moon Goddess has another plans for him and now he is cut in another web of love one he isn’t ready to lose.
Kate turned, her eyelids fluttering open
You’re not sleeping,” “she sat up her expression a mix of confusion and worry.”
Yeah, Dimitri answered.
He closed his eyes for a moment, as if he is gathering his thoughts. When he spoke again, his voice was rough, but there was a vulnerability there that she had never heard before.
“There’s something I need to tell you,” he said quietly. “Something I should’ve told you a long time ago.”
Kate frowned, her heart pounding fast in her chest. “What is it?”
“I haven’t told anyone except Louis about this..,” he began, his voice low, almost pained.
“But you deserve to know.”
” There has been a … curse.”
Kate frowned, confusion knitting her brow.
“A curse? You mean what is affecting your Lycan form?” she asked softly and he sighed sitting up straight.
He nodded, his gaze dropping to the sheets, as if the confession he was about to make was too much to bear while looking kate in the eyes.
” Yes” he mumbled
“The instability of my lycan form is something I brought on myself.
It is not just some rumor or old tale. It’s real, and it’s something I brought upon myself.”
” Oh I see” Kate said as a chill ran down her spine, but she didn’t waver. She needed to understand, to help him carry this burden he had borne alone for so long.
“Tell me everything,” she urged gently, taking his hand in hers, hoping to offer him some comfort, some strength.
Dimitri took a deep breath, and then he began to speak, his voice heavy with what seemed like sadness and regret.
“”Before you… before you came here, I had one mate.”
Kate’s breath caught in her throat. She had known, of course, she had heard from Diana and Lia , but hearing it now, from his own lips, felt different.
“Her name was Amelia, she was my first love, beautiful. We had dreams together that I hoped to fulfill”
” I loved her very much” he said softly,” his voice soft with a mix of pain and longing. “She was my first mate, given to me by the Moon Goddess herself. We’ve been friends from when we were young, and on our eighteen year old birthday we found out we were mate, I accepted her and I loved her more than I thought was possible. But…”
He hesitated, and Kate could see the pain in his eyes.
“But she’s is dead” Kate finished for him, her voice barely above a whisper.
Dimitri gave a slight nod, his eyes clouded with tears. “She died. She died a sudden unknown death I couldn’t save her. I failed her.” I couldn’t find a cure to her sickness.
I was… I was lost in grief, in pain, in anger. I couldn’t handle the emotions.”
” So, I ran. I shifted into my Lycan form and ran into the woods, desperate to escape the pain. But instead of finding solace, I found only darkness.”
I squeezed his hand, encouraging him to continue.
“I wasn’t thinking clearly,” he admitted, his voice cracking with the weight of the memory.
“I was blinded by rage and sorrow, and before I knew it, I had crossed into the Lunar Camp’s sacred grounds. The Moon Goddess’s territory.” Kate hissed in surprise and he laughed drily. She couldn’t find it in her to join him.
The mention of the Moon Goddess sent a shiver through Kate. Her power was undeniable, and to trespass on her land was an offense that carried severe consequences, death being one of the most common.
Although once she had turned a beta mad after the events
“I don’t remember much of what happened. It’s all a blur. But I do remember the anger-the overwhelming, blinding rage that took hold of me. I was out of control, more beast than man. And then… I defiled the Lunar Camp.”
” Dimitri”
“The Lunar Camp? Dimitri, that’s sacred ground…” Kate mumbled sadly and he shrugged
“I… I defiled her camp,” Dimitri continued, his voice barely a whisper.
“That wasn’t the worst of it,” he mumbled his voice hoarse
“In my madness, I destroyed everything in sight. I wasn’t myself, Kate. I was something… something monstrous. And then, in the midst of my fury, I came across a group of a group of young human teens. ” Kate became pale as though the blood in her veins are frozen from where this story was going
” They were just kids… out for an adventure in the woods. They were in the wrong place at the wrong time. And I… I…”
He paused, his body trembling with the weight of what he was about to confess. Kate could sense the agony radiating off him in waves, and her heart ached for him.
“I killed them,” Dimitri said, his voice breaking.
Tears welled in Kate’s eyes, but she didn’t flinch, didn’t pull away. Instead, She wrapped her arms around him, pulling him close, and he collapsed into her embrace.
“I slaughtered them in cold blood, not realizing what I’d done until it was too late.”
” The Moon Goddess saw what I’d done,” he choked out,
” She the Moon Goddess was furious. She appeared before me, her wrath unlike anything I’ve ever seen.
She cursed me She cursed my Lycan form to be consumed by uncontrollable rage and bloodlust, a beast that would forever be beyond my control.”
Tears welled up in Kate’s eyes as she listened to Dimitri’s confession. She had always known there was something dark within him, but she had never imagined it was this.
“I’ve been living with this curse ever since,” he continued, his voice hoarse.
And then you came, and your presence has help to keep him more calm.
Kate’s eye widened, she had thought the Moon Goddess curse on Dimitri was just a rumour.
“And then when you had also fainted,” Dimitri continue and it was the same symptoms that Amelia showed that you showed, the Doctors found out, it was poison a rare undetectable poison. I was scared, scared of losing yet another mate,
And then I got to know, Amelia didn’t die a natural sudden death but was killed and it was my fault.
Kate furrowed her brow, How? She asked her voice barely above a whisper
“Before I found out Amelia was my Mate,” Dimitri continues, I and Sarah are a thing we had thought we would be Mate but then the Moon Goddess had another plan, and then she had thought I would reject Amelia and come for her but I didn’t.
As the bonding between I and Amelia grew stronger, Sarah couldn’t bear the jealousy, then she decided to poison her.
The room fell silent, the air thick with the heaviness of his confession. Kate’s chest tightened with empathy. She couldn’t imagine the pain of losing a mate, of losing someone who was supposed to be your other half.
“I’ve never forgiven myself for that,” Dimitri admitted, his voice barely audible. “That’s why I’ve always been so distant… so hard. I couldn’t let myself feel that again.”
Kate swallowed, the emotion rising in her throat. She hadn’t expected this-this view into Dimitri’s soul, into the depths of his pain. But now, hearing his story, so many things made sense. The way he had pushed her away, the walls he had built around himself-it was all because of his fear of losing someone he loved again.
“I understand,” she said softly, her hand squeezing his. “I’ve lost people too, Dimitri. I know what it’s like to feel that kind of pain.”
She hesitated for a moment before speaking again, her voice quieter now. “I’ve been hurt too, more times than I can count. I was rejected by the people I loved, treated like I was worthless. Would you ever believe me If I told you that this life that I am living presently is the Third Chance Life the Moon Goddess is giving me…”
Dimitri eyes widened, he was dazed with what Kate had just said. He stood up from where he was sitting and came to sit beside Kate on the bed.
Just when he thought he knew everything about his Mate, he just hear her say what he had never thought was possible, Yes he had heard of Wolf being given a second chance life but definitely not the third chance.
She sat down still, locking her gaze with his. “watching his expression”
How did that happen , Dimitri asked.
Curiosity filled his face.
Kate turned to face him, then cleared her throat “I had first been to Bloodmoon Pack in exchange for an Alliance but I resisted based on the rumour have heard about you, this lead me to spend all my days here at your pack in the Dungeon and tortured by by you till the day I met my death when Sarah came visiting me and slit my throat, that was my first demise.”
“I was given a second chance and dreaded by my experience at your pack,” Kate continues. ” I begged my Father’s Beta Kayden who is my Fated Mate by the Moon Goddess, to claim me as his mate before the night of the Alliance signing and he accepted, little did I know that I just dug my own pit.”
“My father was furious and he disowned me, with me being a weak wolf, Kayden started maltreating me behind closed doors and treat me with love and care in public then made his intention know to me that he only accept to my offer so he could make Celine my step sister jealous and fall in love with him, and his plan worked as Celine started getting attracted to him and they started having an affair.”
“I couldn’t bare the betrayal and suffering anymore, I planned to escape which I did then I was captured by Kayden back then he killed me in anger. That was my second demise.”
And I was given the third chance to live, which I myself never believe I could be given and then I looked into it then I found out that my wolf was suppressed, then I decided to accept to be use as an exchange for Alliance because before Kayden cut up with me and captured me in my second chance life, I met you in the woods and you turned out to be my Second Chance Mate, this is why I was determined in strengthen my wolf and I am with you stronger than ever and finding more purpose to live for.
Dimitri sat down dazed by what Kate just told him, now it all made sense, the way her father’s beta had looked at him the day he held on to Kate, the word Kate had said when she heard she was poisoned by Sarah
The raw honesty between them hung in the air, and for the first time, Dimitri felt like they were truly seeing each other-not as Alpha and Luna, but as two people who had been broken by the past but were trying to heal.
Kate had not only suffered maltreatment in her life, she had suffered death not once but twice.
“You’re really strong than I thought Kate” Dimitri said.
Dimitri looked at her, his eyes searching hers. “I don’t deserve this… I don’t deserve you.”
“Don’t say that,” Kate replied, her voice firm. “We all have scars, Dimitri. You’ve carried yours for so long, but you don’t have to carry them alone anymore.”
“I don’t want to lose you,” Dimitri said, his voice breaking.
“You won’t,” Kate whispered, her hand brushing his cheek. “I’m not going anywhere.”
With each of them letting out their truth, Dimitri felt a weight lifted up his shoulders, he feels better and they both drifted off to sleep lying side by side helding on to each other.
