We went back home after a pleasurable time. It was the first time I had sex with Bruno in the car and it was surely a day to remember. I couldn’t help smiling all through the ride back home. We chatted as he drove past a lot of cars. When we got back, he hugged me. “That was intense,” he said with a small chuckle escaping his lips.
“But it was heaven,” I admitted.
“Let’s do that more often,” a small blush crept into my cheeks. Did he always have to be so plain about it? He pressed me into his body. “But still I can’t seem to get enough of you sweet girl,” I pushed myself into his hard chest.
“At this rate, I may probably not walk again,” I said.
“I’ll always be there to carry you around, sweet,” the way he called the sweetly sent shivers through my spine. I bit my lips. I wanted him too. I can’t seem to have enough of him too. His hands moved to my ears, I threw my head back.
He was about to go forward when his phone beeped.
Again.
Much to my disappointment, he released me from the hug. I didn’t step back. I wanted to know what was up with him. Why was he so sensitive when he got a text? Why did his brows draw together when he got a text? I was already convinced that something was wrong and his reaction to this text proved me right.
He didn’t look scared, he looked concerned, too concerned that I felt like it was alarming. I stood on my toes, trying to get a glimpse of his phone. “What’s that?” I asked.
He quickly brought his phone to the side and took a step back.
Another proof.
“It’s nothing.” He said but I saw through his lies. “Where were we before we were rudely interrupted?” He asked, taking a step forward. He wrapped his hands around my waist and pulled me closer to himself. “Where should we continue love, how about moving to the kitchen counter?”
All the excitement I was feeling was long dead since his phone beeped. I tried to move away from his embrace. He held me back with his big veiny hands. I should have known that that action was fruitless. “Is anything wrong?” he asked looking into my eyes.
I wanted to wait until he told me whatever was wrong, but I guess I would be waiting for so long if I didn’t try to find out for myself.
“I should be asking you that,” I raised my head to hold his eyes, “what is going on? What’s with those texts?” I asked.
“They are nothing, just spams” he said.
“Spams that make you arch your brows?” I scoffed, “Tell a better lie, Bruno.” I said. He gave me a look that could be interpreted as I am telling the truth sweet girl. “Fine, let me see the spam,” I said.
He released me from the hug. I extended my hands hoping he would drop his phone on my palm. But he didn’t. “Or I can see the spams?” I asked. He knew I had caught him. “See, you can’t even give me your phone. Something is wrong. What happened to no secrets?” I was a bit disappointed but reminded myself not to be.
I had also hid Sarah’s messages from him. So this was how he felt when he found out. Like your chest was being tied with the thought that your favorite and most beloved person in the world might be in danger. “You should know how it feels when we keep secrets. Wasn’t that why you were mad at me yesterday?” I couldn’t help but ask.
“Don’t get it wrong. It isn’t like I didn’t want to tell you,” he said.
“Then what’s stopping you? I’ve been asking but you just keep avoiding my questions,” I said.
He pulled me to the coffee table at the side and we both sat. “Tell me. What’s up with those messages?”
He dropped his phone on the table and pushed it to me. I picked it up to see some baizer messages.
Unknown number: I have my eyes on you. Soon you will be wiped out of the mafia world. And don’t think the people around you will be spared. Especially your girlfriend.
My eyes widened and I almost wanted to stop reading. I knew it would only get worse as it went down.
Unknown number: I kept an eye on your girlfriend all through. She was in the bar. I wonder why she left the blonde girl’s table and what they discussed.
Okay now if the former message had raised my eyebrows, this one made me cover my mouth. How did they know? This means they were in the bar. They were watching me. I thought all the spies had been eliminated but it seems there were others.
“How did they know about the blonde woman?” I asked Bruno.
“It seems the flies have not been fully taken out,” he says. “But you don’t have to worry. I’ll take care of it. I’ll make sure whoever this person is, he gets back what he is giving out. And you know how generous I can be.” He said.
” You don’t have to worry about me. I can fight now and protect myself and I doubt they would be able to do anything in the club. If they wanted to do something they should have done it a long time ago.” I said.
“What does the person want? I asked him to see him shake his head. “Not yet. But I am not waiting for him to ask before I strike. Watching you is enough for me to burn their heads.” He said.
The rest of the night went as normal.
The following days, I spent it in his office. Bruno would not allow me to leave his side. I tried to convince him that I could protect myself and it wasn’t like whoever was watching us could harm more in the club but he wasn’t having any of it. He was also trying to trace this person. He couldn’t trace them through their phone because they used a burner phone.
Whoever this person was, all I could say was that they hid well. Finding any person or any information had never been a problem for Bruno as he acted as if he had the entire information in the world and in the back of his hands but for whatever reason it was beginning to get difficult. But he didn’t give up.
I also tried to help but there was not much I could do, especially with the fact that Bruno would not allow me to leave his side. I tried not to look scared though I was.
It was one of those boring days I spent with Bruno in his office. I sat on the sofa at the side scrolling through my phone when I heard a knock on the door. Before the door pushed open, I could already tell that it was Rave. One of the things I had observed since I began staying at Bruno’s office was the way everyone who entered the office knocked.
Rave walked in and stood in front of Bruno. I said a quick hi to him. Bruno raised his head. I stopped scrolling through my phone. It seems Rave brought important news. “We’ve been able to find the person sending those messages,” he said.
“I thought I’d have to give you all the time in the world before you find this bastard,” Bruno said. He didn’t hide his disappointment at the incompetence of his men to find this person earlier.
“I’m glad your hard work paid off,” I said to Rave. I just couldn’t understand why it was hard for Bruno to compliment Rave on his job. Rave smiled at me.
” I’ve already sent some men there. I thought it would be best to report it to you before I proceed to the place,” he said.
“Where is this place?” Bruno asked.
“The outskirts of the city,” Rave replied. I thought as much.
“Bring the leader to me alive. I will personally do the questioning,” Bruno commands. Rave nodded and bowed before turning. I had my eyes glued to him as I watched him leave.
Maybe I should go with him. Going with him was better than being in this room all day.
“I would like to go with the team,” I said standing up.
“No. You should stay. They can do it without you,” he said.
“I know they can do it without my help but I want to help,” I refused to back down.
“I don’t want you to leave my side,” Bruno said.
“Then you can come along. It could be like the last time we went out for a mission together,” I said. My mind reverted to the way he had protected me and I smiled. But my smile froze on my lips when Bruno refused to come with me. He wasn’t coming with me and he wasn’t going to allow me on my own. “Come on. It isn’t like those people are waiting at the door to blow off my skull when I walk past the door. Besides, Rave is there and I am sure he would give his all to protect me,” I said but Bruno didn’t bulge. He seems to have already made up his mind.
I gave up trying to convince him. But I didn’t give up on the mission.
When two men entered the office to report on some ammunition they had sold in China, I took that opportunity to slip out. I told the men at the front of the door that I was going to use the restroom just in case Bruno asked for me.
I caught up with Rave before he drove off.
I went with him. I knew Bruno was probably going to get mad at me but he wasn’t going to hurt me. Rave asked no question. He assumed I had Bruno’s permission and I didn’t tell him.
When we got to the base. Our men were already inside. They had raided the place. Some men lay on the ground in their pool of blood. I had learnt that Rave had some men watching this place for days. They had taken them unaware and when they were at their weakest point.
I walked behind Rave. I looked around as I took each step. I had learnt to be alert at all time
You never can tell where an attack might come from. “Where is the boss?” Rave asked to one of the men who were walking towards him.
“Just like you had ordered, we didn’t kill her. She is with some of our men in the room by the side.” The man said.
She.
Well, seems interesting.
A woman had been the one pulling those shits from behind the scene and she had been able to hide without being caught for a long time. I felt like clapping. Unfortunately for her, she didn’t get away with it and ended up being caught by Bruno.
We stepped into the room. She was on her knees with hands tied to the back. Her hair covers her face. I squinted my eyes. She looked familiar. Rave walked to her and yanked her head back by pulling her hair. She clenched her teeth together refusing to shout. When her face came into view, I was shocked.
This… this was the blonde girl I spoke with at the bar the other day.
Rave took me home per Bruno’s order. He left after making sure I stepped inside safely. I took slow steps as I walked to Bruno’s room. I would use my charm on him, and I was sure he would let me go.
I didn’t see him when I stepped into his room. He walked to the bathroom. “Bruno, I…” I began wanting to explain before he would say anything.
“You disobeyed me, sweet girl,” he said, cutting me short. He was so calm. Too calm. “And you should know I have to punish you for it.” Before I could say another word, he took large strides, covering the little distance between us.
His hands wrapped around my waist and he pulled me to his side. His lips were quick to find my lips and he kissed me fiercely.
