JADE
Days drifted by, turning into grain of sands and in the quiet of the mansion, I found myself in a conversation with the doctor.
I had been feeling quite unwell for some days and indeed I was worried. The thought that I had eaten something poisonous, something meant to kill me slowly, wouldn’t leave my head.
I mean we are back in America, the den of our enemies.
Luciano being a don has a lot of enemies and I’m no exception to the looming threats around his life.
The constant nausea made me tensed and when it’s sickly wave wouldn’t stop, I just had to meet the family doctor.
He ran a test on me yesterday but I couldn’t wait to see the result and left quite immediately.
“You are pregnant Mrs Greco” the doctor told me with a warm smile, handling me the test results.
Fuck! This was such an unexpected news I’m pregnant.
I am actually pregnant!
But we had it only once, and ever since Luciano has been so busy. Was that one time enough to get me pregnant?
Gosh I sound so much like a novice but I am so ecstatic.
“Are you serious doctor? I am actually with child?” I radiated with beaming smiles, unable to grasp the news.
He nodded, “congratulations to you and your husband Mrs Greco. I shall take my leave now. Please take care of yourself and come for checkups too”
“Thank you so much doctor. Have a safe drive” I chirped happily like a dog with two tails. I baded him farewell and my eyes narrowed back to the test results which was clutched in between my fingers so tightly like it could vanish.
“Positive” I read the word out loud, my smile bubbling from within.
I giggled to myself, sitting back on the cough.
I wonder how Luciano would react to this news! Does he want a child? We have never actually talked about having kids before but it just happened so unexpected.
Oh I miss his company so much.
He is rarely ever around and always so busy.
Joy bloomed within me, but it was tangled with the ache of missing Luciano’s presence.
Footsteps approached me and I craned my neck to see my maids Elizabeth and Jane hovering over me.
“Come girls..” I invited them, urging them to come sit with me with a pat on the couch.
They seemed hesitant, passing each other curious glances. “Signora we are fine standing…” I did not let Elizabeth finish that statement as I interrupted her.
“Stop being so formal with me Elizabeth and you both should come sit with me” I urged.
They agreed and sat down.
“You seem so happy signora. Is there any news? Jane inquired.
“Ofcourse. I am pregnant” I announced to both of them.
Elizabeth pulled me in for a hug at once, clearly more overjoyed after all this was our plan.
“I am so sorry for my behaviour…” She apologised, lowering her eyes the moment she broke off from the hug. I shrugged it off with a wave of my hand. “You shouldn’t be. Thank you so much for your help Elizabeth. I am so happy honestly. I can’t wait to tell Luciano!”
“Congratulations signora. This is indeed such a good news and a blessing too” Jane squealed with delight.
“I miss Luciano so much right now. I wish I could tell him now. I don’t want to break this news over the phone. I want it face to face” a sigh left my lips at the end of the statement.
“He will be back ok signora. Besides we just made a sumptuous lunch. You will love it. Come eat” Elizabeth tried to bring some cheer with lunch, but my appetite had vanished just by missing Luciano.
“I’ll eat when Luciano’s back,” I assured them, clutching onto the anticipation of his return.
I waited anxiously in the living room for what seemed like forever when Luciano finally stepped through the door, exhaustion etched on his face.
I couldn’t help the joy that bloomed within me. “Feels like you’re never here,” I whispered, the words carrying the weight of unspoken longing as he approached me.
“Principessa ti amo cosi tanto” he placed a light kiss on my temple.
“What does that mean?”
“It means I love you so much princess. Sei la mia vita” he replied in Italian.
“Your sweet accent won’t buy you out this time. It has been lonely without you and I miss you so much. You have been so busy these days” I cried, laying my head on his chest.
“And Jade every single second I spend away from you and in my office makes me wish I could abadon everything and run back home just to be in your arms. I am really sorry. Please. I kept to my promise and came back early today. All for you Jade. My sweet jade”
His apology hung in the air, and I nodded, accepting the reality of his demanding schedule. In an attempt to enable us spend quality time together, Luciano suggested, “why don’t we have a walk on the beach? It has been long I went to the beach and you deserve to go out too”
I thought about it for a while.
He was right. Besides, the beach seemed like the perfect place to tell him about our baby!
“Splendid Luciano. Now go freshen up” I smiled.
“Why don’t you join me wife?” He groaned, nibbling on my earlobe before carrying me bridal style.
I chortled, my face going beetroot red as Luciano carried me in his arms and to our room.
* * * * * *
The waves crashed against the shore, a rhythmic lullaby to our footsteps.
“I love the air of the ocean Luciano” I said to him as we walked together, hands interlocked.
The salty breeze kissed our faces and ran through our hairs, flipping it across our faces.
The beach waters shimmered, the golden glow of the evening sun reflecting on it.
“I knew this was the perfect place for you” he replied softly.
“How is work Luciano? I have never actually inquired and that is terrible of me I know” I sulked.
“No Jade…” he breathed out, his features morphing. “It is best you don’t ask honestly. Do not remind me too either. I just want to spend time with you and think about you right now because you are all that matters to me ok” He encircled an arm around my waist.
My cheeks became flushed and I smiled like an idiot to myself.
So this is how love feels like?!
As we strolled along the sand, I felt the need to share the news. “I’m pregnant Luciano” I told him, the words carrying a mix of joy and vulnerability.
We stopped in our tracks and Luciano gazed intensely at him causing me to reconsider if I should have actually told him.
“You are pregnant?” He sounded angry.
Suddenly the joy I felt earlier was beginning to diminish. “Y-yes. The doctor told me earlier t-today” I stuttered.
Luciano’s eyes lit up with a blend of emotions, and we found a quiet spot on the beach to sit and absorb the revelation.
“Are you serious Jade?!” He exclaimed, giving me a shock.
“Yes I am. I am pregnant for you Luciano” I took his hand and placed on my stomach.
“God.. I–Fuck.. I…” he was practically speechless and pulled me in for a passionate kiss.
I kissed him back, my fingers exploring his hairs and sinking into his skin.
“You are really pregnant for me Jade!”
“Yes I am Luciano” tears carried my words as I replied back with a wide smile.
“I love you so much Jade. I love you and our baby. Thank you Jade. Thank you for coming into my life” Luciano was overjoyed at this point.
And here I was worrying if he would not like the idea of a child in our home.
Heck he is going to be the best father ever!
Luciano enveloped me in a tight hug and kept on placing light kisses everywhere his lips touched.
And it felt so right and perfect.
