Valerie stormed into the house like a fiery comet, forcefully pushing the door open and barging in like an uninvited guest.
Her body language and composure was threatening, her fists balling and unballing.
“Valerie is something wrong?” Leila asked noticing her spiteful and angry demeanour. Damien was seated, his curious orbs watching his sister as she broke down in tears.
“Everything is wrong!” Valerie said amidst her tears. Yes she now knew that Luciano never loved Jade but he still wanted to be fateful to her despite the fact that he didn’t have feelings for her.
How could someone be faithful to whom they did not love?
Did Luciano just detest her that much?
“Everything is so wrong. Why am I so unlucky!?” Valerie bemoaned.
“Stop beating around the bush and tell us what is going on goddamit!” Damien demanded, her tears were getting him tensed and upset.
“You should be happy that your wedding preparations are underway yet you are crying and screaming that everything is wrong. What is the matter this time?” Damien added, his eyes mirroring the dissatisfied look on his face.
“Luciano is the matter!” Valerie responded. “Fuck Valerie, him again? What is your problem? What do you want from him this time?” Leila scowled, a huff leaving her lips.
Valerie stared at her sister dumbfounded, wondering whose side she was on. “Can you hear yourself right now?” Valerie asked, shocked at her sister’s remark.
Leila nodded almost immediately, “Yes I can. How Is he the problem this time around? You wanted him to marry you, you got it! He agreed. Infact him and his wife agreed on him getting married to you for the snake of their mafia. You have the upperhand, you won. So how is he the problem this time around.
Do you just love to cause a stirr and make a mountain out of a molehill?” Leila scoffed, rolling her eyes at her sister.
Needless to say, she was not in support of Valerie’s schemes to get Luciano neither was she in support of Damien helping Valerie to achieve this.
Valerie was a very beautiful girl and she was sure she had a ton of admirers still she was just so adamant on Luciano.
It was stupid and a fruitless pursuit.
“Leila! Don’t you dare talk to me like that!” Valerie bellowed harshly, her forefinger wagging at her sister.
“Enough! Enough with the drama!” Damien’s deep voice cut in sharply, leaving an trail of silence in its wake. “Valerie will you talk or not? I do not have all day honestly” Damien ordered for the last time.
“I am just coming back from Luciano’s office. Since we would soon be married, I did not see anything wrong in going to see him.
I tried to touch him though but he resisted all my advances…”
“Oh wow, is that a surprise? C’mon Valerie he loves Jade so much” Leila interrupted, her voice a hint of bitter humour.
“He doesn’t love her Leila. He told me himself he doesn’t love her” Valerie responded.
“Why would he tell you that?” Damien inquired, now fully drawn into the rather confusing discussion.
“It was by accident. He was not meant to spill it out but he did. And more importantly, he even confessed it before Jade” Valerie responded, her words carrying satisfaction.
“Then what is the problem? Lucaino actually said that in front of Jade?” Leila was finding it hard to believe.
Valerie nodded. “She walked in on the statement. Suits her right though. She meddles too much. But even at that, Luciano does not still want me. He accused me of making him confess how he actually felt about Jade and drove me out of his office. I did not put a knife on his throat and force him to say it. He said it wilfully. Why am I now to blame?”
A mild chuckle escaped Damien’s lip. Coming towards Valerie, he clasped his arm on her shoulder, “You worry too much. Forget about his tantrums. He will soon accept you as his ok. Now if you will excuse me, I have a meeting to catch up with”
Valerie reluctantly nodded, watching her brother leave before turning to face Leila who had a scowl sitting on her face for her sister.
“What?” She asked.
“Can you not see Valerie or are you pretending to be blind?” Leila rhetorically asked.
“Can I not see what?”
“Can you not see that Luciano doesn’t and will never accept you? Can you not see that. Yes he may not love his wife as he claimed but he does not hate her either.
It is only a matter of time before he comes to love her. If he already does not love her” Leila replied.
“And what do you mean by that statement? Are you saying he loves Jade? He doesn’t. Because if he did, he would not have made such a statement in her presence” Valerie tried to convince Leila but it sounded like she was just trying to convince herself more.
“Maybe he does love her but he just does not want to accept that fact yet. Whatever the case may be Valerie, he has clearly expressed that he does not want you neither will he accept you” Leila said, her voice soft.
“It’s a lie. He will accept me as his once we are married” Valerie refuted her words with defiance.
Leila gazed at her sister, a woman madly inlove with another woman’s husband. She hoped Valerie would actually see the actual reality of everything going on.
“I am your sister Valerie and trust me I care for you. I care for you so much. I do not want you plunging yourself into a lifelong union that would be filled with nothing but rejection and misery.
If you get married to that man, you would always be a second option to him.
I mean look at you, you deserve true love from a man who adores you and worships you.
Luciano is not that man. He can’t be that man. Because his heart lies with another Valerie. The sooner you come to terms with that little piece of information, the better for you Valerie” Leila admonished before walking away.
Valerie was left in deep thoughts. Tears filled her eyes and her heart pounded heavily against her rib cages. She loved Luciano so much.
Will he never really accept her as his wife?
Does he really love Jade?
She was the one initially meant to marry him and she had dreamt for that day.
How could she let go off him now that she had gotten what she had always wanted?
