JADE
I sat in the dinner hall in expectation of Luciano. It had actually become a custom for both of us to eat together on the days he did not zoom off to work early.
I still could not believe I wasted my priceless energy in going to that gathering only to be labelled a villain and have multiple accusations thrown my way.
What sort of mother does that? That was an unfair judgement that she passed. She said it herself that she favoured Aurora the most. Was that not partial of her?
Luciano is her son too and she ought to listen to both sides with discernment. Or was it because Luciano is not her biological son?
A feeling of pain washed over me. Was this how Luciano grew up? Always sidelined and judged unfairly in every argument with his brothers?
His childhood must have been very lonely after the death of his mother.
And he does not speak about his father alot. I guess he is not close to him.
I could honestly begin to feel the lonely void Luciano must have had to cope with growing up.
But yet he refuses to admit it.
“Oh Jade I am so sorry. Am I late?” My husband’s husky voice chimed into my thoughts.
He briskly walked towards the dinning hall and took off his jacket, passing it to a nearby guard before coming to seat opposite me.
“A little” I giggled, making gestures with my hand. “Breakfast is ready. Dig in”
“It smells lovely. I am so starving. I haven’t had anything to eat since yesterday” Luciano said before stuffing two pieces of fried potatoes in his mouth.
I observed him as he ate, “Why did you not eat?”
“Mhm I was pretty busy. Work duties wife. You tell me, how did your evening go yesterday. I am sorry I forgot to ask about it. I was honestly so preoccupied yesterday”
“Well it is good you did not ask at that moment. I would have probably lashed at you because I was not really in a happy mood” I sighed out.
Luciano stopped eating and his features became laced with concern. “Why what happened? Did Aurora say anything to you?”
“It is not what she said Luciano. It is more of what she did” I stopped slouching on the chair and straightened my back.
“What did she do?”
“She literally heaped lies on my head. She lied to mother that I had been threatening and insulting her ever since I came here and I did not even do anything of that sort. She has been the one always trying to get on my nerves since the very moment I came here. Mother even blamed me for you and Raffaele’s fight” I explained.
“Are you serious? Aurora did all that?! Fuck. She is as obnoxious as her husband honestly” Luciano scowled.
“What I do not understand is why mother was so biased in her judgement. She did not even want to listen to my own side of the story. I felt so insulted and humiliated” I bemoaned to Luciano.
His anger was so visible, there was no hiding it. As I spoke his jaws clenched and unclenched with his fists balling so tight that I could swear his knuckles were becoming white.
“I have to go put my brother and his wife in their place. What sort of game are they trying to play on us? They must honestly be insane” Luciano growled, abruptly springing to his feet.
“Uh Luciano please. Do not confront them or meet them concerning any thing” I stood up at once, trying to reach out for his balled up fists.
“Why shouldn’t I? I mean how could Aurora speak such rubbish against you to mother!? Fuck I feel like murdering them both with my bare hands I swear!” Luciano spoke so viciously with a murderous intent glaring in his eyes. There was no concealing it.
He was as red as an angry bull, outraged to the core.
I took a step back a bit, fear settling in my features and my countenance changed. I was gripped by terror at how savage and murderous he had become in just the blink of an eye.
Luciano snapped his heated and indignant orbs to meet mine, taking a step closer to eliminate any space between us.
“Jade I can not bear to see you humiliated by anybody. Not even if it is coming from my own family. I can literally order their deaths right now if you just say the word” he was as serious as ever. His speech burned with so much animosity and hatred.
Order their deaths? Yes I did not like either of them but I would not want to see them dead. Luciano was taking it too far and it was honestly getting me petrified.
“Luciano calm down ok. I do not want you to kill anyone for me. Yes I do not like them but killing them will be way too extreme. And you will get arrested. The cops will come looking for you.
And besides I do not think Raffaele had a clue about what his wife did. I think this time it was all Aurora but do not worry ok.
I will handle her woman to woman” I said.
Luciano did not look convinced by my words but he did not push me any further.
“Shall we eat then? We can not let such good food waste?” I requested to which he nodded.
We began eating once more when a thought crossed my mind; the death threat note which I found in his office a day ago.
I think this is the best time to ask Lucaino about it. He seems calm enough.
“Luciano I have something to discuss with you. You see a day ago, I found a note on your desk and it had a death threat written on it. Luciano is there something you are hiding from me? Is your life in grave danger? Is someone out there trying to kill you?” I was honestly worried about his safety.
Luciano did not give a reply to my questions leaving me more confused.
“Well answer me please” I urged him.
Suddenly, he laughed and then laughed even harder again. Why was he laughing? What is so funny about this?
“Why are you laughing? This is a literally a sensitive issue and you are laughing” I chided him.
“I am sorry for that but you look so adorable when you are worried. And as for the note you saw Jade, it was honestly just a harmless prank ok. Do not fret. Your husband is safe and sound” Luciano flashed me a charming smile.
“Do you think I was born yesterday Luciano? That did not seem like a harmless prank to me. The note was clearly from someone who despises you and wants to see your downfall. I am honestly very worried about you Luciano. Please can you speak to me if you have anything bothering you?” I pleadingly asked.
“Jade.. sweet Jade” he heaved a deep breath. “Nothing is going on in my life apart from dealing with work and trying to make this marraige a success. It was just a harmless prank from a friend of mine. We made a bet to see if he could scare me and the note did not scare me. Do not take it to heart ok and just eat” Luciano softly replied.
I swallowed the clog in my throat before speaking. “If you say so”
Hell I was not convinced by his reply but pestering him further will not give me the answer I need either. So it was only best that I spoke less of the issue and just figured it out myself.
I know for sure that something is wrong with this family and also that all was not as it seems in my husband’s life
Now I just hand to uncover the dark secrets my husband was hiding from me.
