Liam’s gaze remained fixed on me, his expression unreadable. “Maybe that’s the problem,” he replied. “You don’t know anything about me, yet you waltzed right into my territory without a second thought.”
I steadied my breathing. “I told you-I didn’t mean to intrude. I had no idea this was… your territory.”
He shook his head, a faint smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth. “Doesn’t matter. Intentions don’t change what you’ve done.”
I clenched my fists, frustration boiling within me. “Then what do you want from me?”
Liam’s serious expression softened, and he let out a small laugh. “Alright, alright. I’m just messing with you.”
Liam laughed, shaking his head as he began to shift, his wolf features melting away. His fur receded, claws turning back into fingers, and his stance relaxed as he returned to his human form.
He stretched his arms, looking at me with a grin. “See? Not so scary now, am I?”
I crossed my arms, still annoyed. “Very funny. You enjoy messing with people, don’t you?”
He shrugged. “Maybe. It’s not every day someone just wanders into my territory without a clue.”
I sighed. “Well, now I know. I’ll be more careful next time.”
Liam smiled, his tone softening. “Good. But hey, maybe it wasn’t all bad meeting like this.”
I raised an eyebrow, curious. “So, if I’m not supposed to be here, then who are you, exactly? I mean, what are you doing out here all alone?”
“Like I said I am Liam and I have lived here my entire life.”
“That’s a lie.” I was not convinced knowing well he looked exactly like Logan more like his twin.
Liam’s grin faded, his expression becoming somber. “Honestly? I don’t have anyone. Never really did.”
I frowned, taken aback. “What do you mean?”
He looked away, his eyes distant. “I was raised by an old woman. She wasn’t related to me. I don’t know my real family but she took me in when I was just a kid. She passed away last year, so… it’s been just me since then.”
I took a step closer, my voice softening. “I think I know your real family.”
Liam looked at me, a mix of confusion and hope flickering in his eyes. “What are you talking about?”
“Logan,” I said quietly, watching his face closely. “You look so much like him. You could be twins.”
“Who is Logan?”
“He is my mate but apparently I don’t know who he is anymore. He isn’t himself. Something has changed about him.”
“Like?”
“Like for a start, he killed his father and also that’s kinda the main reason I ended in your domain. I was chased by him.”
Liam’s eyes widened. “He killed his own father? And you’re his… mate?”
I nodded, feeling the weight of the words. “Yes. But he’s changed, Liam. I don’t recognize him anymore. He’s dangerous now.”
Liam looked down, processing everything. “Sounds like he’s not the same person you knew.”
“No, he isn’t. I thought I could trust him, but now… I don’t know. It’s like he’s someone else.”
Liam took a deep breath. “Then why stay? Why put yourself in danger?”
I hesitated, then answered quietly, “Because I still care about him. I want to understand what happened, why he’s different.”
Liam was silent for a moment, then nodded slowly. “Maybe I can help. If he’s connected to me somehow… maybe there’s something we’re missing.”
I looked at Liam, surprised. “You’d help me? Even after I trespassed?”
He shrugged. “You seem like you’re in over your head, and if what you’re saying is true, then maybe I deserve to know who I really am, too.”
I sighed, feeling the weight of everything. “Okay, but… I think I need to rest first. This has been… a lot.”
Liam nodded. “Fair enough let me lead you to a place you could stay.”
As we walked, I glanced over at him. “You know, my life used to be pretty normal,” I began. “Until my mom remarried. She married Logan’s father, and everything changed after that.”
Liam looked at me, listening intently. “How so?”
“Well, for one, I suddenly had a stepbrother and everything became awkward cause first I had a crush on him not only I everyone in the school and if they found out they would hate me but eventually they did and one of my best friend hates me cause she too had a crush on Logan and Logan also being a playboy knew how to draw the girls attention.”
Liam raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “Sounds like a complicated situation. So, you had feelings for him?”
“Yeah, I did, still do,” I admitted. “But I didn’t think it would lead to all of this. It was just a crush, you know? Then things got serious when I found out about his true nature.”
“True nature?” Liam asked, curious.
I took a deep breath. “He’s a werewolf. At first, I thought it was all a joke or something. But then I saw it with my own eyes. The transformation, the power he has… it’s overwhelming.”
Liam nodded, processing my words. “And now he’s dangerous?”
“Apparently, yes.”
Liam’s gaze fell to the necklace hanging around my neck. His brow furrowed slightly, a look of curiosity crossing his face. “Where did you get that?” he asked, pointing at the intricate pendant that swayed gently as I moved.
I glanced down at the necklace, fingers brushing over the cool metal. “It was a gift from my mother,” I replied. “She gave it to me before everything changed.”
Liam’s expression brightened. “I have something like that, too.”
He stood up and walked over to a drawer across the room. I watched as he rummaged through it, his movements purposeful.
After a moment, he pulled out a small box and returned to me, setting it down on the table. “This was given to me by the old woman who raised me. ”
He opened the box, revealing a delicate silver necklace with a pendant resembling a wolf’s head, intricately designed with swirling patterns.
“Wow, that’s beautiful,” I said, leaning closer to get a better look.
Liam nodded, his eyes reflecting a mix of pride and nostalgia. “It’s special to me. She said it would protect me, but I never understood why until now.”
I looked at him, curiosity piqued. “Do you think it has any significance?”
Liam shrugged. “Maybe. It feels connected to everything that’s happening. Like it’s part of who I am.”
I reached out and touched the pendant on his necklace, then looked back at my own. “Maybe our necklaces are linked somehow.”
Liam tilted his head, contemplating. “Could be. We should find out more about them. They might hold the key to understanding what’s going on with both of us.”
Liam led me down a narrow hallway until we reached a small room. He opened the door and gestured for me to enter.
“This will be your space,” he said, glancing around. “It’s not much, but it’s safe. If you need anything, just shout. I’ll be one shout away.”
I chuckled, feeling the tension easing a bit. “One shout away? I’ll keep that in mind.”
With a nod, he stepped back, allowing me to close the door. As I turned the latch, I caught his eye one last time. He offered a reassuring smile before walking away.
