After school, I got home and waited for Logan’s father who wanted to have a word with me. I paced a bit in the living room, glancing at the clock every few minutes, anxiety gnawing in me.
Finally he came out of his room and gestured for me to follow him outside. Him, Logan and I entered his car and drove off.
The air was thick with unspoken tension as I sat in the back seat, unsure of where we were headed. I glanced at Logan, who sat silently next to his father, his expression unreadable.
Eventually, we pulled into a deserted parking lot, and my stomach dropped. The building looming in front of us looked like an abandoned club-its exterior was covered in peeling paint, and the neon lights that once buzzed with life were now dark and lifeless.
“Where are we?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady as l looked out the window.
“This is the Wolf House,” Logan’s father said, his tone calm yet filled with significance. “It’s where the pack gathers.”
I blinked in surprise. “The pack still comes together here?”
He nodded, opening the door to the building.
“Yes. This place may look abandoned, but it’s still a stronghold for our community. A sanctuary.”
As we stepped inside, the once dilapidated exterior gave way to something much more organized and alive. The interior was warm and welcoming, with soft lighting and worn but comfortable furniture. There was a low hum of voices coming from deeper within the building.
Logan walked ahead of me, his posture more relaxed as he navigated through the familiar space. His father led us down a hallway, where the air felt thicker, charged with energy.
We stepped inside the Wolf House, and everything felt tense. The quiet talking stopped as soon as people saw me. I could feel their eyes on me, and the air seemed heavier.
Then, suddenly, a few wolves growled. Some of them stared at me, baring their sharp teeth. My heart pounded in my chest as I froze, unsure of what to do. Logan started to move, but before he could say anything, his father’s voice cut through the room like a blade.
“She is one of us!” he shouted. “She is the savior of this pack.”
Immediately, the growling stopped. The wolves backed away, still watching me, but with less aggression.
“Savior?” I whispered, confused. “What do you mean?”
Logan’s father looked at me, his face softening. “There’s a lot you don’t know, Audrey,” he said, glancing at Logan, who stayed silent but tense.
I felt like I was in a dream, unable to understand what was happening. “Savior?
What does that even mean? Why are you saying this?”
Logan’s father sighed and motioned for us to sit at a nearby table. “It’s not easy to explain, but I’ll do my best.”
We sat down, and I could still feel the stares from the others in the room. Logan sat next to me, clenching his jaw, as if he was struggling to hold something back.
Logan’s father sighed heavily, as if the weight of what he was about to say was almost too much to bear. His eyes softened as he looked at me, the tension in the room still thick.
“You see, Audrey,” he began, “your father was once one of us, before he died.”
My breath caught in my throat. My father?
That couldn’t be right. I had never known much about him, but to think he was a part of this world-Logan’s world-was something I had never imagined.
I searched Logan’s face for some kind of confirmation, but he only stared at the table, his jaw still clenched.
“Your father sacrificed his life for this pack,” Logan’s father continued, his voice steady, but with an underlying sadness. “He was a brave man. When the pack was in danger, he made the ultimate sacrifice to protect us
all.”
I blinked, memories of the picture I found in Logan’s father’s room flashing in my mind. Everything now clicked and it was clear they had a bound with each other.
“What… what happened to him?” | asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
Logan’s father sighed again. “He died saving something incredibly important. An eternity book. This book predicts everything that will happen in the future. If it falls into the wrong hands, it can destroy the world as we know it.”
I stared at him, my mind spinning. A book that predicts the future? It sounded impossible, but I couldn’t deny that everything about this situation was far beyond anything I had imagined.
“The pack had been after that book for centuries,” Logan’s father continued. “But others, enemies, sought it too. Your father found it first. He saved the pack by hiding the book where no one could ever find it.”
I felt dizzy, trying to take in all this new information. “Where is it?” I asked.
He shook his head. “No one knows. Your father never told anyone. He died before he could share its location.”
I swallowed hard, my hands trembling in my lap.
“But there’s more,” he said, his voice growing quieter, more serious. “Before your father died, a page from the book was torn out.
That page had a prophecy, a prediction that one day a savior would come. A Luna. She would be mated to the Alpha and would be the one to help find the book again.”
I felt like the ground had dropped from beneath me. “The savior… me?”
Logan’s father nodded. “Yes, Audrey. It predicted you.”
I felt cold. Suddenly, everything made sense.
The overheard conversation between Logan and his father about a prophecy, the journal I had found when I snuck into Logan’s father’s room-this had all been about me.
My head spun as the pieces of the puzzle finally came together. This prophecy, this book-it was all connected. And somehow, 1 was at the center of it all.
I sat there, frozen, the weight of the words sinking in. “So… I’m supposed to be mated to Mr. Castlefield?” | asked, my voice trembling as I tried to process everything.
Logan shifted uncomfortably next to me, but his father’s expression remained calm, though there was something unreadable in his eyes.
“Not to me, Audrey,” he clarified gently. “To the Alpha. That’s Logan.”
I blinked, turning to look at Logan in shock.
“Logan?” I repeated, my heart pounding harder now. The tension between us suddenly felt much heavier.
Logan finally met my gaze, but he said nothing, his jaw still tight.
“Wait,” I said, holding up my hand as the confusion grew. “First of all, what does
‘mated’ even mean?”
Logan’s father sighed, leaning back slightly in his chair. “In our world, being mated is more than just a relationship, Audrey. It’s a bond-a deep, unbreakable connection between two people. It’s fated, determined by nature. For the Alpha, his Luna is more than just a partner. She is the one who strengthens him, supports him, and helps lead the pack.”
I stared at him, my mind struggling to catch up. “So… it’s like marriage?”
Logan’s father shook his head. “Not exactly.
It’s stronger than that. It’s a bond of the soul.
Once the bond is formed, it can’t be broken.
You’ll feel what he feels, know what he knows. It’s… profound.”
I felt a shiver run through me as I glanced at Logan, who still hadn’t said a word.
I shook my head in disbelief, trying to grasp the enormity of what was being said. “What the hell? I can’t marry my stepbrother! I’m still young-I’m only eighteen!” My voice trembled as panic surged through me. The idea of being bound to Logan forever, no matter how strong the connection, was overwhelming.
Logan’s father remained calm, though his gaze was unwavering. “This isn’t about marriage in the human sense, Audrey. It’s about the bond. It’s your destiny. You have to surrender to it… to Logan.”
“Surrender?” I repeated, almost laughing at the absurdity. “You want me to just give up my life, my choices, and… and surrender to him? I barely understand what all of this means, and now you’re telling me I have no say in it?”
Logan stayed silent, his body tense beside me. The fact that he hadn’t spoken a word made everything feel even more unbearable.
“I understand how difficult this must be for you,” Logan’s father said, his voice firm but not unkind. “But the prophecy is clear. You are the Luna. You were chosen to be by Logan’s side and lead this pack.”
I felt my chest tighten, my thoughts racing.
“But my mother… she won’t be happy about this. She has no idea about any of this!
What am I supposed to tell her? That I’m going to be bound to her stepson forever because of some ancient prophecy?”
Logan’s father sighed deeply, his expression softening. “Your mother’s feelings matter, but this is bigger than just family, Audrey. It’s about the survival of the pack. The bond will protect us all-without it, we’re vulnerable to our enemies.”
I glanced at Logan, hoping he would say something, anything, but his silence weighed heavily on me. How could I agree to something so life-altering when he couldn’t even look at me?
“I don’t know if I can do this,” | whispered, my voice cracking. “It’s too much.”
Logan’s father leaned forward, his eyes piercing as he spoke. “You need to understand, Audrey, that this bond is not just a matter of prophecy-it’s a matter of survival for the pack. You have to be bound to Logan, and it needs to happen soon.”
I shook my head, still reeling from everything. “But why so soon? Why can’t we take time to figure this out?”
He sighed, his expression darkening with urgency. “Because there’s another Alpha who seeks to claim you. If you don’t bond with Logan, Warwick-the rival Alpha-could try to bind you to him. And if that happens, the consequences will be… disastrous.”
I felt a surge of defiance rise within me.
“Warwick isn’t a werewolf! He’s just a guy from school. You can’t possibly think he’s a threat.”
Logan’s father exchanged a glance with Logan, who finally looked at me, his eyes filled with frustration and something else- fear? “Audrey, l’ve told you countless times.
Warwick is not just some guy. He is a werewolf, and a powerful one at that.”
I shook my head, disbelief coursing through me. “But he’s human! He doesn’t act like a werewolf; he doesn’t even look like one!”
Logan’s father leaned forward, his expression serious. “Looks can be deceiving.
Warwick has been working to gather followers, and he wants power-your bond with Logan is the key to that power.”
I glanced between them, my heart racing.
“But how can you be sure?”
“Because we’ve seen the signs,” Logan’s father said firmly. “He’s been manipulating things behind the scenes, and we can’t afford to underestimate him. If you don’t bond with Logan soon, you’ll become a pawn in his game.”
Logan’s jaw clenched again, and I could see the tension in his muscles. “We’re trying to protect you, Audrey,” he finally said, his voice low. “Warwick won’t stop until he gets what he wants, and that includes you.”
I swallowed hard, the weight of their words crashing over me like a wave. “But I don’t even know what I want! How can I just agree to something so huge when I’m still trying to figure out who I am?”
“I can’t believe this is happening,” | said, feeling overwhelmed. My mind went to Warwick, who had asked me to be his girlfriend just this morning. At the time, it had seemed like a nice distraction from everything else going on. But now, I couldn’t shake the feeling that his interest in me might be part of a game he was playing.
Logan’s words echoed in my mind. Power.
That’s what Warwick wanted. I remembered how he smiled confidently, making it easy to forget that he might be hiding something dark beneath that charming look.
