Chapter Nineteen

Book:Surrender To My Alpha Stepbrother Published:2024-11-1

Monday morning came too soon, and I woke up sore from training with Logan. Every part of my body ached as I got out of bed, my mind still buzzing with everything that had happened. My sleep had been filled with strange dreams of wolves and the man who had chased me.
But I had no time to think about it. It was Monday, and I needed to get ready for school.
The warm water eased some of the pain, and I let myself relax for a moment.
After drying off, I went to my closet and picked out a simple white shirt and jeans. I wasn’t in the mood to dress up, so this would do. I quickly tied my hair into a messy bun, not bothering to make it perfect. Then, I put on a little bit of makeup-just enough to make myself look awake.
With my bag packed, I was ready to head to school.
As I opened my door, I was surprised to see Logan just stepping out of his room. He looked a bit disheveled, his hair tousled and wearing a plain black t-shirt and joggers. For a moment, I froze, taken aback by how close we were in the hallway.
Logan smirked, leaning against the doorframe. “Nice to see you’re all dressed up for school. That messy bun really adds to the look.”
I rolled my eyes, trying to hide my smile.
“Very funny, Logan. Some of us aren’t trying to impress anyone.”
He chuckled as I brushed past him, heading downstairs. “Sure, keep telling yourself that!”
When I reached the kitchen, I found my mom already sitting at the table, sipping her coffee. She looked up and smiled at me.
“Good morning, sweetie! How did you sleep?”
“Morning, Mom. It was alright,” I said, grabbing a piece of toast
“Just alright?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.
“You look a little tired.”
“Just a long night,” I replied, trying to keep it vague.
Logan followed me into the kitchen and grabbed a piece of toast as well. “You two are like an old married couple,” he teased, winking at my mom.
I shot him a glare, feeling my cheeks heat up. “Shut up, Logan.”
“Just saying,” he said with a grin before taking a seat at the table.
I shook my head, trying to focus on breakfast. My mom watched us with a knowing smile, I could sense that she felt happy seeing Logan and I getting along and me adjusting to my new life.
As I sat down at the table, I tried to ignore Logan’s teasing. Just then, he leaned closer and whispered in my ear, “Hey, my dad wants to have a word with you after school.”
I felt a jolt of surprise. “What? Why?” I
whispered back, a little worried.
Logan just shrugged, his expression playful.
“I don’t know.”
Before I could respond, my mom looked over, curious. “What are you two talking about?”
Logan and I exchanged quick glances and, without thinking, said in unison, “Nothing!”
My mom raised an eyebrow, clearly not convinced. “Nothing, huh? You two are acting all secretive.”
“Really, Mom, it’s nothing,” I insisted, trying to sound casual.
Logan nodded, his eyes twinkling with mischief. “Yeah, just some boring stuff.”
My mom seemed to accept our answer, but I could tell she was still a bit curious. “Alright, if you say so. Just remember to be home on time,” she reminded us.
I nodded, feeling a mix of anxiety and excitement about what Logan’s dad wanted to discuss. I finished my toast quickly, trying to push the thought from my mind.
“Ready to go?” Logan asked, standing up and brushing crumbs off his shirt.
“Yeah, let’s get this over with,” | replied, feeling both nervous and eager for the day ahead.
As we stepped outside, the morning sun greeted us, and I took a deep breath, trying to shake off my worries. Today was just another day, after all.
Logan and I hopped into the car with the driver who was driving us to school.
Before arriving school, I did my usual, jumping out of the car before we reached school so everyone will still think I was that girl who came to the school through a scholarship.
Logan chuckled from behind me as he got out. “You’re really committed to this whole
‘invisible girl’ thing, aren’t you?”
I glanced back at him, rolling my eyes again.
“You know how it is. I just want to avoid any extra attention.”
I walked away while the car drove away to school. I looked back and saw Tanya.
“Did I just see you coming out from Logan’s car or am I day dreaming?”
I felt my face heat up as Tanya approached me, her eyes wide with curiosity. “Did I just see you coming out of Logan’s car, or am I daydreaming?”
I stammered, my words getting tangled. “Uh, well, my mom just got a job working for his dad, so that’s probably why you saw me. The driver offered to drop me off.”
Tanya’s expression shifted from confusion to surprise. “Really? Your mom works for Logan’s dad now? That’s kind of a big deal!”
“Yeah,” I replied, trying to sound casual. “It’s nothing, really. Just a job.”
“Right,” Tanya said, a teasing smile forming on her lips. “So, you’re basically in the family now?”
I rolled my eyes, wishing I could change the subject. “No, it’s not like that! I just took the car this morning because the driver was available. It’s really no big deal.”
Tanya crossed her arms, looking amused.
“Sure, if you say so. But it does sound like you’re getting pretty close to the Castlefields.”
I gave an awkward laugh, trying to brush off her comment. “Yeah, well, let’s not get carried away. It’s just a ride.”
“Okay, sure, I believe that,” Tanya said, her eyes sparkling with mischief. Then she tilted her head, her expression shifting to something more serious. “So, are you prepared for the test we’re having today?”
“Test?” | exclaimed, my heart racing. “What the hell? I didn’t know anything about a test!
When? Where?”
Tanya looked surprised at my reaction. “They sent it in the group chat yesterday,” she replied, crossing her arms and raising an eyebrow at me.
My mind raced back to the previous day, and I groaned inwardly. That was probably right around the time I was training with Logan. After that, I didn’t even think to check my phone before crashing into bed.
“Oh, great,” I muttered, running a hand through my hair.
