Chapter Thirteen
Dinner went well, at least as well as I could have hoped for. Warwick was charming as ever and it felt like I was starting to fall for him. His smile was warm, and he had a way of making me feel special, like I was the only one that mattered.
After we finished eating Warwick suggested we go for a walk.
“The night is too beautiful to miss,” he said, his voice calm and persuasive.
I smile and nodded. “Sure,” I said standing up. “A walk sounds nice.”
We left the restaurant, the cool night air brushing on our skin. The streets were quieter now, and everything felt peaceful.
We walked through the park, the streetlights glowing softly, making the night feel calm and quiet. We were talking and laughing, and for a while, I forgot all the warnings about Warwick and Logan.
Suddenly, Warwick stopped walking and turned to look at me. Before I could say anything, he leaned in and kissed me. It happened so quickly that I didn’t have time to think. The kiss was soft and gentle, but I pulled back, surprised.
“What was that for?” I asked, my heart beating fast.
Warwick smiled. “It just felt like the right moment,” he said.
Before I could respond, I noticed someone standing nearby. I turned and saw Logan, his body stiff and his hands clenched into fists. He looked ready to fight.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, my voice a little angry.
Logan didn’t answer me; his eyes were fixed on Warwick, like a challenge.
The tension between them was thick in the air. Warwick’s expression changed-he no longer looked calm or charming. Instead, his eyes narrowed, and his smile faded.
Logan stepped closer, his voice low and firm.
“Stay away from her, Warwick.”
Warwick crossed his arms, not backing down. “Who are you?”
My heart skipped a beat. Oh no, Logan isn’t about to reveal the connection we have, is he? I thought, feeling panic rise in my chest.
I shot Logan a warning look, silently begging him to keep his mouth shut.
But Logan, in typical fashion, ignored me completely.
“I’m her brother,” he said, his voice sharp and steady.
I froze. Oh no! He did! It’s finished! My mind was spinning. Logan just said it. Out loud. To Warwick. My brother? Of all the things he could’ve said, that’s what he chose?
Warwick’s eyebrows raised in surprise, but then he chuckled, as if he wasn’t buying it.
“Her brother? Really?”
I swallowed hard, trying to think of a way out of this mess. “Logan, please,” | said quietly, hoping to calm the tension, but my words seemed to fall flat between them.
Logan took a step closer to Warwick, standing tall and unyielding. “I don’t care what you think,” he said. “But you’re not getting near her again.”
I could feel the pressure building. Warwick’s eyes were colder now, no trace of the warmth from earlier. He turned to me, his voice quieter, but somehow more
dangerous. “Is this true, Audrey? Is he really your brother?”
I opened my mouth to say something, anything, but no words came out. I felt trapped between them, both of their intense gazes fixed on me.
How did everything spiral so quickly?
Before either of them could continue their tense standoff, I saw something that made my blood run cold. Out of the shadows, several wolves emerged, circling us slowly.
Their eyes glowed with anger, their teeth bared. These weren’t ordinary wolves-they looked stronger, more vicious, as if they were barely holding back from attacking us.
“Oh my God…” I whispered, my heart pounding in my chest.
Logan noticed them too. His body tensed even more, his eyes darting around. I could see the protective instinct kicking in.
Warwick’s posture shifted as well, but unlike Logan, he seemed less surprised, like he knew this was coming.
“Audrey, run!” Logan’s voice was sharp, filled with urgency.
I froze for a second, unsure of what to do.
Run? Where? These wolves were everywhere, and they looked ready to pounce. My feet felt like they were stuck to the ground, fear paralyzing me.
Logan transformed into a powerful wolf in front of me, his muscles rippling as he changed. I gasped, shocked by the sight. I felt a mix of fear and awe as he became this fierce creature.
“Audrey, go!” he barked, his voice deep and growling.
I didn’t need to be told twice. With panic flooding through me, I took off, following Warwick as we sprinted down the dark street. We ran as fast as we could, but I could hear the wolves behind us, their growls echoing through the night.
We rushed into a narrow alley, the walls closing in around us. I could feel the heat of my fear rising, and my breaths came in sharp gasps. Suddenly, the growling grew louder, and I turned to see the wolves closing in behind us, their eyes glowing with hunger.
Trapped. Panic surged through me. “What do we do?” I shouted, my voice trembling.
I was so scared that in that moment, In that moment, something shifted inside me. It felt like a surge of energy coursed through my body, an instinct awakening deep within. I felt my muscles tense, and before I knew it, a powerful force took over.
My body began to change, stretching and shifting as the world around me blurred.
I gasped as I fell to my knees, the pain and confusion overwhelming. My senses heightened, and I could feel everything-the scent of the night, the sound of the growling wolves, the pounding of my own heart.
The transformation was unlike anything I could have imagined. I felt powerful yet terrified as I became something new, something primal. I was losing myself, losing control, and the fear of what I was becoming gripped me.
Finally, the transformation stopped. I stood on four legs, panting, my body covered in thick fur. I looked down and realized I had transformed into a wolf. My instincts screamed at me to run, to fight, to protect.
Warwick’s eyes widened in surprise as he took a step back, clearly not expecting this.
His expression shifted from shock to awe, and I could see the conflict in his gaze.
Just then, the growling from the wolves intensified, and I felt the urge to protect. My newfound instincts kicked in, but with them came a wave of fear.
What have I become?
